RIDERS SIGN JON RYAN

RodPedersen.com has learned the Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed NFL/CFL veteran punter Jon Ryan.

The 37-year old Regina product participated in the Riders Florida minicamp last month.

Ryan spent 13 seasons in the NFL with Green Bay, Seattle and Buffalo after a 2-year stint with the CFL’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The UofR Rams grad has long stated that he’d like to finish his pro football career with his hometown Roughriders, but also recently said he’d like to play another 10 seasons.

3DownNation’s Justin Dunk reports Ryan will be the CFL’s highest-paid punter at $100,000 per season: https://3downnation.com/2019/05/14/riders-make-reginas-jon-ryan-the-highest-paid-punter-in-the-cfl/

In a related move, there were reports Monday evening that Saskatchewan has released veteran punter Josh Bartel.

I guess that's the end of 'Ridermania' in Australia.

Did rodpedersen.com learn this by reading other people’s tweets that signalled the Jon Ryan signing well before you?

Also if you were really connected you would know there are more than “reports Bartel has been released”. Dig a little and you will see it for yourself.

Yep that would pretty much sum it up.

Are the Riders trying to set a new league record for oldest team ever? Sure looks that way. Weird strategy. We'll see how that works out.

I learned it here first. I don't care if it came to him in a tip, a dream or a trance.

In any event, let's hope the ball in in whoever the QB's hands are much more than it is on Ryan's foot.

50 yard passes trump 50 yard kicks almost every time.

Y'er welcome

People complained about the Riders punting game. Fact is it was the coaches asking Bartel to situational kick, place the ball and not out kick the coverage. So will it matter if Ryan can kick the snot out of the ball if the coaches ask him to not out kick the coverage

Wow anonymous if you have such a hate for RP and his blog why do you waste your time reading and commenting? Typical keyboard warrior loser. Here's an idea to start your own blog and see how many other loser followers you get, oh wait you wouldn't be capable of that because it's just easier to sit "anonymously" and criticize. What a jackass.

Lot of money for a kicker. Would have liked to have seen some of that dough go to other areas for YOUNG help. Who's to say he's any better than Bartel at placing the ball which Bartel has done well the past 2 years. He's getting the kind of money now given to high draft picks. Man, this club has really gotten old FAST. What did Jones say the formula for success was? Get young, fast guys. The Riders are back. If you're 30+ & need some money for retirement there's a place for you here.

Paul McCallum went on to have some of his best years into his 40's so a more athletic player like Jon Ryan should be a Rider for many years.

Great signing, well worth it. Keep in mind that the punter is in fact a defensive position. I can hardly wait to see the opposition returners watch in disbelief as the ball sails over their heads in behind them

He looks like he has a massive hand for a youngster.
