Rickard Rakell got the best of Mikko Koskinen in Edmonton. Rakell scored a natural hat trick in the second period as the Ducks pulled out a 5-1 victory over the Oilers. Rakell's third goal gave Anaheim a 4-0 lead and sent Koskinen to the bench for the rest of the night. He finished with 17 saves on 21 shots.

They needed a shootout to decide a winner in Vancouver. Markus Granlund scored the winner in the eighth round as the Canucks edged Dallas 3-2. Jacob Markstrom stopped 38 shots through regulation and O-T, and another eight more in the shootout.

The Canadiens remained in the thick of a fight for a playoff spot with a 3-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets at Bell Centre. Montreal and Columbus are tied with 92 points each, but the Blue Jackets have a game in hand. Meanwhile, the Maple Leafs squandered an opportunity to clinch a playoff berth with their 4-2 loss to the Senators at Canadian Tire Centre.

The Raptors showed off their depth in Chicago. Serge Ibaka had 23 points and 12 rebounds, Fred VanVleet also scored 23 and Toronto routed the Bulls 124-101 despite playing without Kawhi Leonard and Pascal Siakam. Leonard was excused for personal reasons and didn't make the trip to Chicago. Siakim was healthy and on the bench, but got the night off to rest.

The Blue Jays and Tigers are set to finish a four-game series after each of the first three ended in a shutout. Aaron Sanchez pitched five scoreless innings this afternoon as Toronto beat Detroit 3-0 at Rogers Centre. The Tigers won 2-0 on opening day, and the Jays followed with 6-0 win yesterday. Toronto threw just three shutouts all of last season.

A plan by a business group to bring a CFL franchise to Atlantic Canada has taken a big step forward. A spokesman for Schooners Sports and Entertainment confirmed the group has signed a letter of intent with Canada Lands Company outlining a potential deal that would see a multi-use sports and entertainment hub built on the Dartmouth side of Halifax harbour.
