RIDERS RE-SIGN SAM HURL

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed national linebacker Sam Hurl to a one-year contract extension.

Hurl (6’1 – 230) will remain with the Riders for the second consecutive season after signing with the team as a free agent in February, 2018.

Hurl was originally selected by the Riders in the 2nd round (12th overall) of the 2012 CFL Draft. After three years in Saskatchewan, Hurl joined the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2015 where he remained for three seasons.

Last season, Hurl started all 18 games at middle linebacker where he registered 41 defensive tackles, six special-teams tackles and two tackles for loss. He also started the Western Semi-Final picking up three defensive tackles.

Through seven CFL seasons, Hurl has collected 207 defensive tackles, 53 special-teams tackles and eight quarterback sacks in 108 career regular-season games. He has also played five career playoff games.

He was a member of the Riders 2013 Grey Cup championship.

Hurl was eligible to become a free agent on February 12.

Jones is no longer here, that’s really trust worthy.

Well its good news for the Riders to sign a Canadian LB who has had a very good CFL career & is still under 30.
Hurl has excelled at times as a LB. as a starter or rotational guy or first rate Back up. He has been able to play both MLB & WILL LB in these variety of roles depending on rosyer depth injuries etc.
As well. Canadian LB / Safeties, ...
Also can become special teams starters. As for Hurl he has done all of these on very high levels

Not every player is an All Star. Hurl has had a lasting career and still is going. Being part of the Canadian National part of the roster is a backdoor kinda
' Ratio Buster '
At Will / Mike / special teams. Very valuable to any CFL team
