REGINA - National safety Mike Edem has signed a two-year extension with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Born in Nigeria and raised in Brampton, Ont., Edem will enter his seventh year in the CFL. He was selected third overall by the Montreal Alouettes in the 2013 draft and also has played with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and B.C. Lions.

The Roughriders acquired Edem in a trade with the Lions prior to the 2017 season.

Last season, the six-foot-one, 210-pound Edem had a career-high 61 defensive tackles along with two interceptions while starting in all 18 regular-season games.

For his career, Edem has 172 defensive tackles, 50 special-teams tackles, eight interceptions and five sacks.

Edem was scheduled to become a free agent on February 12.

HUGE signing to get Edem secured.
Edem is a seasoned veteran and All Star type Canadian on any defense.
Can Play safety & WILL LB. As well as great as special teams coverage team player.
He is of this modern breed of Canadian players that can not only play Safety & Special Teams.
But also can move to a LB spot.
Courney Stephan also on the matket still. Canadian Safety & Special teams. But also has started an been a solid Wide Side CB.

Good signing but Jefferson is the guy you have to sign. Lose him & everything changes. He makes the DL work. Looks like he might sign in the US. Very different looking teams this year with all the movement.

Cant argue with that for sure. Jefferson is just gona be a player that Riders will have to wait on for awhile & see his status.
Its his 3rd go around wit the NFL. But he still will be under the minimum NFL salary status as well as PR eligibility left.
Once The NFL season rosters of 90 starts on March 11. It will be alot of futures contracts guys realeased & others signed.
Then The NFL draft on April 12. More movement as Draft picks & FA rookie contracts are signed. As teams only have 90 Training camp spots availbe on each roster staring again on March 11.
To make it more crazy. The NFL has already began poching players from the AAF. After the AAF is a month into their season. NFL teams will be scrambling for potential guys.
