The Saskatchewan Roughriders and assistant vice president of football operations & player personnel John Murphy have mutually agreed to part ways.

“On behalf of the Rider organization, I want to thank John for his three years of hard work and leadership with our football club,” said Riders vice president of football operations, general manager and head coach Chris Jones. “He is one of football’s top personnel men and was a big contributor to our success. He will remain a good friend of mine and I wish him all the best.”

Murphy joined the Riders in December of 2015 where he oversaw personnel-related matters, including the CFL Draft and free-agent identification and evaluation.

Murphy made a statement on Facebook early Wednesday afternoon:

“Thank you, Rider Nation!  After three seasons with the club, Tuesday was my final day as a member of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.  While choices like these are always difficult for both personal and professional reasons, I look forward to what the next chapter has in store.  The success and satisfaction I have experienced through my job is only made possible because of the relationships developed with the players, their families and yes, even their agents.  My sincere thanks to each of you for your trust, commitment, friendship and loyalty given to the team.  And of course, thank you, Rider Nation for allowing me to wear green after years of donning the red and black.  Regina is a great community to be a part of, and I am grateful for the number of fans who became more like friends and family during this time, most notably Mr. Jerry Bosch (RIP).  I truly look forward to our paths crossing once again! JM @draftjm13 John Murphy”

Thanks for everything Murph and good luck in the future!

Hope the 2nd musketeer isn't going to be a cut also. We need J.O. This is a slippery slope.

He was ready to move on and move up. I wonder if he has a job lined up? Perhaps something that can't be announced until after the NCAA or NFL seasons are over. If you look at the talent we've brought in over the last 3 years you know he's going to have people knocking on his door.

John Wayne he wasn't CUT, he was asked to take a 10% pay cut and said no so they parted ways.

I wish him well. I wish he could have found the Riders another BLM type QB.

@ Brady Y
I think even that part of the story is questionable. I don't see him leaving unless he had a better job lined up, and given that he's been here three years and had great success while here I was expecting that either he or O'Day was going to get a better offer for a higher position somewhere else. Also, him leaving probably saves some other jobs. It could also be an AAF or XFL offer. Now THAT would be crappy, because he might start signing some of our FAs.

Sorry to see John leave as he was great to have a conversation with and was looking out for the long term good of the team. Best of luck in the future.
