The Jets are heading back to Winnipeg with a chance to win their Western Conference semifinal on home ice. Kyle Connor scored two goals and set up another as Winnipeg toppled the Nashville Predators 6-2 for a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series. The Jets host Game 6 on Monday.


The Washington Capitals pushed the two-time defending champs to the brink of playoff elimination. Jakub Vrana scored the tiebreaking goal with less than five minutes remaining and Washington piled on with two more insurance goals in a 6-3 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 5. That gives Washington a 3-2 lead in the second-round series. Game 6 goes Monday in Pittsburgh.


O-G Anunoby (an-un-OH'-bee) tied the game with eight seconds left but LeBron James ended it at the buzzer. James hit an off-balance buzzer beater to give the Cleveland Cavaliers a 105-103 win over the Raptors, pushing Toronto to the playoff precipice. Cleveland has a chance to sweep the Raptors at home on Monday night.


Justify rode to victory on a muddy track at Churchill Downs to capture the Kentucky Derby by two-and-a-half lengths. Justify is the first colt in 136 years to wear the roses after not racing as a two-year-old. The chestnut colt was bred in Kentucky by Vancouver's John Gunther.


The Toronto Blue Jays couldn't handle the red-hot Rays for a second straight game. Denard Span drove in his team-leading 24th run to help surging Tampa Bay to a 5-3 win. The Rays got their 11th victory in 14 games to improve to 15-and-16. Toronto is trending in the opposite direction with losses in eight of 12 games.


Jason Day sputtered at the start and finally hit his stride for a 4-under 67 to build a two-shot lead going into the final round of the Wells Fargo Championship. Adam Hadwin of Abbotsford, B-C is six shots back after shooting a 65 in the third round.
