Regina, Saskatchewan – The Regina Pats dropped game one of their first round playoff series in Swift Current, 3-0 to the Broncos on Friday night.

Swift Current got off to a fast start when Beck Malenstyn put a puck home after a bounce off the end boards to make it 1-0 less than four minutes in. The Pats were shorthanded five times in the first and Swift Current capitalized on two of them. First, Tyler Steenbergen scored from the right circle and then Matteo Gennaro tipped a point shot and the Pats trailed 3-0 after one.

Regina would outshoot Swift Current 20-14 the rest of the way, but Stuart Skinner held the fort and the Pats fell 3-0 in game one.

Regina outshot the Broncos 34-26, the power play was oh for four, the penalty kill was six for eight and Ryan Kubic made 23 saves.

The Pats and Broncos will meet again in game two Saturday night in Swift Current at 7 p.m. on 620 CKRM and Access 7.

Quick Hits

Very obvious to tell that "were in the Memorial Cup" attitude has once again reared it's ugly head. The Pats were lazy, disinterested, and unwilling to work and go to the dirty areas. They shot from outside all night. Add in the stupid penalties (yes a very questionable calls) and it's what you get. Kubic just loves giving up those bad goals every game. It's like when Brown was here. Where was Steel, Hebig or Mahura? I thought they were late scratches like Paddock and Gabrielle.

But Jake won more than a few face-offs ...

While moaning about the Pats, can we all just take a moment to celebrate what the Raiders did and hope it happens three more times! Thank you!

Paddock injured in practice this week; Gabes injured leg in last reg season game.

PA is on a roll. They can play without pressure in MJ but that will change when they get back to their crib. Willms must have been lacking a bit last based on the shot count. Keep it going PA!

Thought the Pats didn't play with a lot of passion but Broncos do have a lot more to play for, and want to erase that memory of last year. Remember they are a very good Team, and didn't score in the last 40 minutes either so that must make them a little worried.

Pivotal game in the series tonight. Whomever wins this one takes the series.

I didn't see anybody moaning about the Pats. Swift should have won that game..they were the better team this season and they were at home....usually the first team to win 4 games wins the series...not the first game
By the way this is a Regina Based blog and will be more about local teams. Good on your Raiders for winning 1 game...but MJ will rub them out in 6

AND if you keep up with current news..Gabriel was hurt in the last game and Paddock was dinged up in practice this week

Yer welcome
