RIDERS RELEASE RODGERS FOR NFL OPPORTUNITY

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have released international defensive back Kacy Rodgers II so he can pursue an NFL opportunity.

Rodgers spent the last two seasons with the Riders after originally signing with the Green and White in August 2016. The 25-year-old played 25 regular-season games and collected 74 defensive tackles, one quarterback sack and one interception which he returned 50 yards for a touchdown. He added 12 defensive tackles in two playoff games in 2017.

Rodgers was scheduled to be a free agent February 13th.

The Riders also announced the release of international defensive back Erick Dargan. The 25-year-old played nine regular-season games in 2017, his first season with the Riders.

best news for the riders this year!! Hope he sticks with the NFL, riders can do way better. He constantly had interference penalties and was beat deep like an aging mule.

Um, the Commissioner just said that teams who do this will be fined heavily.

Why not just say "we are releasing him" and leave it at that? Isn't this snubbing our noses at Ambrosie? It doesn't seem wise.

Correct me if I am wrong but I think Rogers will be a free agent in 10 days anyway.

Rodgers was the weak link in our defense. So we've improved.

He was at the end of his 2 year contract. The release between year one and year two would be fined heavily. He wouldn't have resigned this year anyways. With being a free agent and the NFL opportunities.

kacy rogers is a free agent on Feb 13. so he finished his two year contract ergo it isnt breaking the rules.. we did the same for jeff knox jr a day or two ago aswell to do the same thing.. also a free agent on Feb 13.. the both fulfilled there contractual obligations to the riders so the arent breaking any rules.

No it is not at all. The situation was the one in BC where the player was let out of his signed 2018 contract.

He was terrible I can't believe any NFL team is looking at him

Cost us the playoff game against the Argos for not doing a better job covering Wilder. Can't see him making the NFL unless he is trying out for Cleveland.
