ESKS RELEASE BOWMAN

EDMONTON - The Edmonton Eskimos re-signed American Vidal Hazelton to a one-year deal but released veteran Adarius Bowman rather than pay him a $140,000 roster bonus.

A source told The Canadian Press last week that Bowman, 32, was due the bonus Monday.

The six-foot-three, 215-pound Bowman had a club-record 120 catches for a league-high 1,759 yards and nine TDs in 2016. He then signed a contract extension through 2018 that at the time made him the league's highest-paid non quarterback.

Bowman reportedly earned $260,000 last season and was scheduled to make $265,000 this year, including the bonus. He now becomes a free agent.

Bowman cracked the 1,000-yard plateau three times over his six CFL campaigns with Edmonton. But last year, Bowman had 45 catches for 534 yards and five TDs over 12 regular-season games before adding five receptions for 96 yards and two touchdowns in two playoff contests.

The six-foot-three, 212-pound Hazelton appeared in 11 games last year with Edmonton, registering 55 catches for 709 yards and four touchdowns. Hazelton has appeared in 35 games over three CFL seasons, accumulating 152 catches for 1,873 yards and 13 TDs.

Yep...didn't want to go to far away from his 270,000 so have at er sask...that would finish your salary cap right good. He end up with Harvey in BC and also Willis.

Funny how teams can opt out of 265,000$ contracts but if players should ever try to opt out of 60,000$ contracts the league cries WOE IS ME

Just my thots

Hear ! Hear! Just my thots TK.
Are you listening Ambrosie????????

Montreal bound .. where the twilight glows for those in their final years of production.

Ambrosie is most likely fully aware due to him being a player.

thots TK; Right on.

Yep... another self serving comment. SK has one of the better receiving cores in the league. They have no use for Bowman. Besides no ones that stupid to pay $260K like Edmonton did.
The cap is well under control in SK. Look at EDM last year with the highest paid QB Reilly, highest paid receiver Bowman, two top paid Dends in Chick & Willis just to name a few. How the EE staid under the cap in 2017 is beyond most.

It is borderline criminal the way the CFL clubs release guys the day before a bonus is due.

I wonder how the Edmonton troll who haunts this comment section feels about the way Bowman was dumped. He is quick to attack Chris Jones but seems silent when his guys do the same or worse.

If he did come to Sask I am sure he would do it for a fair bit less.

Seems Edmonton has to pay more to get people to go to that city. Sask could probably get him for $120 000 ish. Players are fighting to come play in the marquee market in the CFL with the best stadium and best fans.

That being said, I'm not sure we need him. I will leave that up to the football genius Chris Jones with his four championships.

He's sure building a winner here!

Because most of there top guys were hurt for part of the season so it didn't go against the cap and oh yeah about the highest paid Qb Mike Reilly...wasn't he the MOP smart guy.

He’ll end up in Montreal or Hamilton

If we have extra $ for a receiver it should go to Nic Demski. I am wondering why he has not been signed yet. Is Winnipeg in his sights. Right now we have Rob Bagg as a starting Canadian receiver and we need a Canadian starting in this position. Our Back up is Joshua Stanford and Albert Awachie both with limited experience. If Bagg gets injured we will be very week or have to replace with an American, which means probably inserting a Canadian on the O-line and making us weaker. We desperately need Demski!.......Last week they put Johnny Augustine on their Neg list. I am sure we can get him with minimum $ . With Spencer Moore and Greg Morris on the list of Free Agents it will be interesting to see what Riders do. Preferably I would like all 3 here but the dollars need to be right.

How did that turn out smart guy

Also on the Reilly comment...we are paying him about 60 grand more then Collaros. So last season Collaros did absolute nothing...Reilly MVP. Also most important position on the field and would pay Reilly what he gets any day of the week.

Demski’s best attribute is his birth certificate. After that he has only been moderately successful. His stutter step fake move on every punt or kickoff return fools no one and we most often start with poor field position. Unfortunately I think he is highly overrated. Let’s get a national d lineman in a trade for him.

Riders signed Durant to $500K after 2013. How was that value for your money in 2014/15/16? You've put out 1.5 MM for a coach who's 15-21, 190K for a LT who, turns out, is really an overpaid LG. I wouldn't worry too much how other teams spend their money. And your brand new stadium shouldn't leak, or force evacuation of fans or won't attract players when they're squished into tiny visiting room stalls. Who's your builder? Geez.

Talking about over paying players ? How about over paying Dennis to come to sask from Calgary when he was ready to sign as a FA with the Argos last year and jones overpaid him to come here and he turned out to be a bust.I think the riders are gonna be in cap trouble this year with 0-12 Collaros making 430,000,carter 175,000,Jefferson at 190 ,bridge at 200,000 plus and now Hughes ,I guess you will see jones over use the 6 game list more than he has in the past 2 years here.

Ummmm.....Durant was an elite qb and was playing at that level in 2014 before his injury in mid season. Do you remember the Riders record before his injury? 8-2. Injury does not equate to no value. He was hurt again in 2015 and the season was a wash. He had underwhelming 2016 and was let go. Our head coach/GM has rebuild an aging team and brought them back into the playoffs. A play or two away from the Grey Cup last year. This year should be even more competitive. Bone Crusher was disappointing at left tackle and I think should be released, traded or have his contract restructured. Well at least you got one out of three right 2nd last anon.

UMMM....Durant was 3-0 in wins by 6, 5, & 6 pts over the Bombers, who had the 2nd worst record in the league that year. UMMMMM....Durant's other wins came vs the East (4 games) & BC (1 game), none of which had a record better than 9-9. UMMMMM..........The Riders won only 1 game vs Edm or Calgary & that was a meaningless final game where Edm sat most of their regulars. Calgary only lost 3 games all year. Edm only lost 3 games all year against everybody not named Calgary. Durant's record is based upon playing all the fellow minnows in the league that year. Edm & Stamps were the league bullies. Ummmmm...Durant had 1792 yds passing which would project to about 3200 yds over a full season vs the worst competition with 7.9 yds/completion. Ummmm..........flash forward to 2017 with Als - 3233 yds passing with 7.8 yds/completion. Almost identical stats. Ummmm - NOT ELITE. Let's not rewrite history here. Durant was already on the decline in 2014. Look a little deeper boys behind the 2014 record. His QB efficiency, despite an 8-2 record, was 6th in the league. Again, not elite. FAR from it.

I was told the Eskies need to sign some Dmen...well JC Sherritt has signed and so has Aaron Grymes...both game breakers.

Anonymous said...

As a diehard Eskies fan Sherrit and Grymes are NOT signed yet ,not sure where you got your info from?

Anonymous said...

I am a diehard also and that is why I pay attention to a facebook or twitter CFL Fans Only...for some reason the sources they go by are very reliable...both will be announced on the same day sometime this week from what I read...so you might not be quite the die hard finding things out as you thought...RIGHT haha

Oh just to keep you updated since your a die hard...Korey Jones is close to signing
