COORS LIGHT RECAP: PATS UPSET WARRIORS 5-3

Keith Hershmiller Photography
MOOSE JAW – Josh Mahura scored twice as part of a three point third period to lead the Pats past the Moose Jaw Warriors 5-3 on Friday night.

The Warriors picked up the lone goal of the first when Jayden Halbgewachs found a loose puck in front and Moose Jaw led 1-0 after one.

In the second, the Pats powerplay tied it up as Nick Henry jammed home his 10th. Jesse Gabrielle then gave the Pats the lead with his 10th on a good wrist shot from the slot and it was 2-1. Moose Jaw found a tying goal with five seconds left in the period and it was 2-2 heading to the final period.

In the third, the Pats powerplay struck again when Emil Oksanen picked up his 14th to make it 3-2.

Then Josh Mahura would strike twice, his 20th and 21st goals of the year to extend the Pats lead to 5-2.

Moose Jaw got one back on the powerplay with eight seconds left but Regina skated away with the 5-3 victory.

Josh Mahura led the offence with two goals and an assist, Sam Steel picked up two helpers while Max Paddock made 25 saves.

The Pats outshot Moose Jaw 36-28, the powerplay was two for four and the penalty kill was one for three.

Quick Hits

U guys were saying about the pats can't beat the warriors ...

This is incredibly unbelievable. To beat a powerhouse like Moose jaw in their own rink is astonishing! Who would have predicted such an upset? Perfect timing for building team confidence moving forward.

Playing hard and playing defensively is the key. Max Paddock is as good as Whilm so it's a saw off there. Platt hasn't been too successful in his scraps but he answers the bell each and every time. Teams are still trying to take runs at Steel so Paddock should put Mahovlich on the right side between Steel and Hebig. The pats have to keep hitting everything in sight and put Halbgewachs and others on the butts far more regular. The Warriors don't like the tough going and that's how the Pats have to play. Maybe Maholvlich should answer the bell the next game and give Platt a break. Perhaps if they could get Hajek in the game that would improve things. Pound away each and every shift

One win doesn't make a contender. If Moose Jaw had won you would have said its only one game. Wait until the end until you crow. Pats will still come to memorial cup through the back door

the pats are already a contender don't let there recordfoolyou!

Correct. The Pats will be in the Memorial Cup. Thanks for making me smile. :)

Very few hosts don’t come through the back door. What’s your point?

Well, well, well...the Pats WHIP the Champs....in their own backyard.

A quick look at the Standings...the Champs are only 1 point ahead of the surging Broncos. And the Pats have crept up into the top 3 of the Division too.

With Brandon's free fall, and the Pats picking up their game, a first round mathcup in the Division is pretty much a certainty now. And that is exactly where they want it to be. A chance to punk either SC or the Champs as an underdog. The Pats loaded up their team, have a berth guaranteed in the Memorial Cup, and will be as loose as a goose. Combine that with a rivalry series, and a MAJOR upset could happen.

Imagine how either of the Champs or SC would feel if they didn't make it past the 1st round with all the trades they made.

Gonna be an interesting 3 or so weeks to end the WHL season!

MJ WILL NOT beat the Pats or Broncos in a 7 game series. Burke and Halbglewachs DISAPPEAR when the going gets real tough. They are still good enough to get points but they are almost as scared as Clague is out there. Watch Clague when the puck is in his corner.....wow is he scared. Pats have more high end skill, more toughness, deeper D. MJ up till now has had this team all year to come together, the Pats are just starting to play as a team, just wait another month and see how good this team is. ONLY team that worries me is Swift. Those guys are good. I've heard announcers say it, if you push MJ's lil guys around they disappear, when you do that to Gawdin and Steenbergen they push back, ESPECIALLY GAWDIN. Plus their D is as big and mean as ours. How the goaltending steps up is the ONLY question, but last night was the most goals Paddock has let in maybe since Christmas if what Phil Andrews says is correct. (avid listener to road games, I go to every home game I can and some MJ games). If you are a Pats or Broncos fan this is an amazing time, if you are a Warriors fan you should be VERY worried....but excited for the regular season success. Lets see the guys quit on Hunter again when the going gets tough. It hasn't got tough this year yet for them, when it get's tough Hunter gets tough on his high end players and they hate it and shut down is what one local ex Pats player who is still pretty connected in the hockey culture said at a gala one night.

1-5 vs Warriors this season, let's make it 2-5 Sunday at the Brandt

Pats are world beaters LOL

Bruce seems like a real straight shooter, I like the cut of his jib.

I have the boys all ready to go here for tomorrow. I'm thinking of throwing the game just to give MJ some extra false confidence going forward but you will find out what I decided tomorrow at game time. Still gotta sell tickets. We are gonna roll through MJ in the ploffs if they make it far enough to even play us, we have found their weakness...... they're softer than a babies poop so when I get the boys to start hitting, so the game is ours whenever we want it.

Is this weekends game sold out yet? Because of course it was initially promoted in the 33,000 Mosaic stadium of course. Pff, Regina a hockey town, keep telling yourself that.

Even blind dog finds a bone once in awhile. Enjoy it this will be the highlight of your season pat fans

Bruce Hockey...Pon Jaddock....What the hell are you guys smoking with all that BS? Did you expect Moose Jaw to win every game they played against Regina this year? Better check out the NHL and see how often some of the best get beaten by the weaker teams ( LIKE REGINA) every year. Do you think the Patsies will win again this weekend? Probably not. Let's see what these Morons have to say when playoff and Memorial Cup time arrives , that should be interesting. And please don't forget about next year when most of Regina's so called elite players are gone and the rink is over flowing with 25 to 2800 per game. Quit dreaming Regina you had your turn last year and blew it so be ready for a REPEAT. Go Moose Jaw Go !

Champs???? Moose jaw Warriors = Chumps

Why do the Moose Jaw Warriors even try? No Memorial Cup in their future.

Pon Jaddock, its odd when the 'coach' is a bandwagon jumper as this is, what - the second time you have posted on here all year? Oh well, I hope you have reason to stay on the bandwagon for at least a few more games - need a few more Warriors losses.

Anonymous said...

Do you have to be special to be on here ? I put my comments on over 2 hours ago and it is not here . WHY ?

Dear Andrew:

I truly do admire your heart and courage, you come onto a blog talking about my team and call me a bandwagon jumper. Ya got guts kid, if the trade deadline wasn't over I might inquire about ya to add even more balls than we already have......something your lil runnin scared team in MJ doesn't.

I also look on in admiration as I read your heartfelt comments. You still had the junk to come to our blog and write about it even though my boys haven't fully come together as a team yet and just spanked you in your own back yard. Then we took home the prettiest gals MJ had to offer, they love Regina BTW.

I truly do love your attitude, even when obviously backed into a corner, even more scared than Clague....ok thats not possible, I'm sorry to speak in such hyperboles, but you still go to bat for your team with so much heartfelt anger and aguish and fear for what you are about to witness that I cannot help but look on and stare at you in awe like Abe Lincoln himself has just walked through the room. You're a good kid, I like that.

HOWEVER, you will not come close to the next step of my plan. To see what this is please call the Regina Pats box office a (306) 522-Pats and get your seats today while you still can. Cause we're a hockey town. You can tell by the number of NHL'ers who come from our local. MJ however is a football town. Scott Schultz was a hell of a player and an even better guy. You gotta be proud of what you have produced....and I think that's about it in the last 60-70 years for MJ.

Andrew Wiens, if it was still Tuesday I'd ask ya to be my Valentine. Keep your chin up kid, you had a great regular season. But its playoff time now, the men will take it from here.

Memorial Cup hosts Pat's exposed some glaring holes in the Warriors...weakness in the right side of defense...shaky goaltending and of the course the simllesi thing of all...just play them 5 on 5 and it's OVER!!

Pon Jaddock, I guess I'll see you on March 17 when I will be sitting directly behind your bench where I always sit. I guess you haven't noticed me waving at you this season since you are are usually shuffling dejectedly off the bench with your head down.
