RIDERS RELEASE KNOX TO PURSUE NFL

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have released international linebacker Jeff Knox Jr. so he can pursue an NFL opportunity.

Knox spent the last three seasons with the Riders after originally signing with the Green and White in May, 2015. Following his second season with the Riders, Knox signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers where he played three pre-season games. He rejoined the Riders in September, 2017.

Through his three seasons in Saskatchewan, Knox picked up 202 defensive tackles, 37 special-teams tackles, one interception and two quarterback sacks in 43 regular-season games. He added four defensive tackles and two special-teams tackles during last year’s playoffs.

In 2015, Knox was named the Riders’ Most Outstanding Player, Most Outstanding Defensive Player, and Most Outstanding Rookie after setting a franchise single-season record with 114 defensive tackles.

Knox was scheduled to be a free agent February 13th.

Smart move by our Riders, building player/management goodwill and making Sask an attractive destination for young American players. Reputation matters.

Waste another 1/2 season making money here to be cannon fodder at training camp down there, 3rd times a charm maybe.

I like that the Riders do this for players. It shows their a classy and supportive employer. I just hate the JFJ will probably be gone yet again. I'm a huge fan of his. Good luck to him.

You guys do see the difference between this and what is happening in Toronto right? The riders let him out of his contract like 10 days early.

How stupid are you guys on here for bashing this guy for wanting to play in the league where every single guy playing football wants to end up in. Regina is not on anyone's wish list coming out of college as much as that might hurt your feelings. The pettiness of you people is amazing....trash the guy for wanting to do better, I guess you all must have given up a very long time ago.Sad sad people.

No one is trashing him and Rider fans know everyone wants to play in the NFL and get far higher pay.
Wake up and read what the comments say. All they are saying is that after 2 try's, he is unlikely to make it there

Nobody is bashing him more like questioning the decision to leave a good amount of money on the table he could make here vs trying a league that's told him thanks but no thanks twice already

I have nothing against the young man pursuing his dream and I wish him the best of luck. It’s just that he’s too small for a linebacker and too slow to be a safety by NFL standards. I would hate to see him waste another season as he’s entering his prime playing and paying years. Just ask Henoc Muamba.

Good luck. Hope he makes it to the big show. If not we would love to have him back.

That is what a classy management and fan base do. Not like the Stinks, Evil Empire, or the wee boatmen fan base.
