COLLAROS MEETS THE SASKATCHEWAN MEDIA

The newest member of the Saskatchewan Roughriders - quarterback Zach Collaros - met with reporters at Mosaic Stadium on Tuesday. The veteran pivot was acquired from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats last Thursday.

Here are some quotes from the session:

- It feels great. Flying out today, I kind of felt like the new kind at school and I'm sure I'll feel that way when we're all together as a team. This is Canada's Team. This is quite the atmosphere to play in as an opponent, and I'm looking forward to being on this team now.

- I think it's a rebirth because it's a new place. Things didn't end the way in Hamilton I'd hoped for last year but I can't dwell on that. I'm really looking forward to this opportunity, focusing on the present, and there's not a better place to be.

- I'd be lying to you if I said 2017 wasn't tough, personally. Didn't play as well I would've liked. As a team, we didn't reach the goals we set out in the preseason. Missed the playoffs. From a personal standpoint it was tough, but, again, really focusing on this new chapter in my career.

- It's a great receiver group. Demski, Bagg, Carter, two guys I played with in Chad Owens and Bakari Grant. There's a lot of talent here; guys who've played at a high level in this league. Coach Jones has done a great job here, as he did in Edmonton. As a quarterback you're really excited to be surrounded by guys like that.

- Physically I'm there. Things didn't go the way we'd hoped in Hamilton the past two years but from a physical standpoint, I feel the exact same and I look forward to proving myself again.

- There's way more media here than my home in Ohio. That stood out to me ago years ago when I came here to play with Toronto. You can just tell the community rallies around the team. Rider Nation is one of - if not the best - fanbases in the CFL. I'm excited to play in an atmosphere where they really care about football.

- I'm ready for the fishbowl. As a QB you're in a fishbowl as the face of the team anyway. Fans are passionate here, as they should be.

- The contract situation is something my agent and Coach Jones are working out. It seems like everything is going well. This is what we hire agents for.

- In Ohio every kid grows up aspiring to be a high school player. You go to high school games and look at those players like they're NFL players. I begged my Dad to go out and throw the ball around everyday. They don't tell you you have to play football. There, it's just something you do.

- (The Manziel situation) is something I really haven't concerned myself with. I'm a Roughrider now and I don't really concern myself with that.

- I'm showing up to camp and competing. Every QB does. Even if they tell you you're the starter, you need to come in with fire in your belly or else you'll get passed by. We haven't had discussions about the starting position.

**Collaros said he took #17 because it was available (Crezdon Butler switched from #17 to #5). He said his number isn't important to him but added he wore #17 while with the Toronto Argonauts.

Right you are Mr. A Nonymous I stand corrected.

Totally excited to see Collaros playimg in green and white. Here’s to hoping he picks up where he was in 2015 before he got injured. GO RIDERS!

does that mean Crezdon Butler is not with the team anymore or did he just give up his number 17 to Collaros? Can someone clear this up for me? What does that mean about #4 Judge, is Judge still in the mix? Can Rod answer that too?

Butler is #5. For questions like this go to riderville

Butler re signed a few weeks ago. Still with the team. Cameron Judge is a mystery.

If you go to riderville.com/roster/ you can see the full updated roster. It shows Butler as #5 and Judge as #4.

DD likely retires while Collaros is still playing so Riders likely retire #4. Collaros wore #17 when he came to the CFL with Argos. Butler obviously gave up 17 for him.

Thanks for the update. Go Riders!

Welcome aboard Zach!! Glad u got to leave that sideshow in the hammer. What a disaster.. I don't know what's worse is "shovel face" Austin's completely erratic (possibly concussion induced) behavior when he was on the sidelines and now that he's even dealing with this Johnny football thing.. or Tillmans complete absence from any conversation so why he even has a job well never know.i do know as a recovering alcoholic how to spot some mental illness one way or the other. I pray for those who suffer.. but in business you have to pull the plug somewhere or u get the gongshow going on there.. I know u got the goods Zach I was at Taylor field watching u shred us as a backup on that cold October night. You have the "it" . Again welcome to ridernation !!!!! You sound like a well spoken grounded solid young man. I couldn't be happier finally your a rider bud

Let's just get this straight Mr. Zack Collaros right from the get go. No such thang as Rider nation, Its RIDERVILLE, spelled in capital letters for emphasis just so you know the fan base name. Always has been, always will be RIDERVILLE. No rider nation, just RIDERVILLE! By the way, welcome to Saskatchewan Mr. Z, (home of curling, it's what were famous for).

jonney curler, just but out!. WE CAN CALL OUR SITE WHATEVER WE WANT AND WE CHOOSE TO CALL IT RIDER NATION!

^^^ hahaha never mind Johnny your just jelous cuz u believe the ridernation stole the monicker from our fsmous ukrainian nation.jokes aside relax my mother is Ukrainian too but I'm not. ;-) Yes beer bottle curling on the ponds was fun but football is what were known for. Call it a phenomenon.. we're just wee regina only a tiny spec on anyone's map but we sell that Shining new "pigskin palace" (thanks vanstone) out every game . Your gonna take a beating from the nay sayers every time u make a mistake.. were a fickle bunch (u might have heard that the most popular qb in sask is the back up .... oiiii) .. just be yourself I've been envious of your team(s) since u kicked our ass as a back up In Toronto. Just play ball kid and don't listen to the crap while your here. I can't wait to see you in green man. I believed in Jones when he dumped Durant. I believe in this and you too

The Ti-Cats weren't a sideshow in the 2nd half of the season when Zach and Austin weren't in...they could have caused problems for teams in the play-offs if it wasn't for Zach's play...seems funny how Masoli comes in and has no issues what so ever. Zach has concussion problems and you can easily tell. Hope he doesn't risk his health for to long.

Why does everyone assume Zach would want #4? Did he choose it in Hamilton.

Rider fans are so educated that they don't even know the roster. lol.

But the best laugh is suggesting the Riders retire Durant's 4. That's rich!

As a proud member of RIDER NATION I would have to disagree with you.
Signed in perpetuity
RIDER NATION

I'll take that bet on Durant. Of course they'll retire his number. He has 2 Cups, played in 4 with the Riders. He has 25% of the TOTAL Cups in their history as a starter. Name another QB who played in 4 Cups as a Rider. He's an automatic.

My two cents.
I would retire #7 (Dressler)
and #17 (Joey Walters)
before retiring #4 (Durant)

Anonymous said...

Not a chance they will retire #4

When did Durant win his second cup?? He was a 4th string QB in 2007 and starter in 2013. And of course the losses in '09 and '10.

I was the biggest Durant supporter for years and yes I drank the koolaid.. upon reflection of the last few years .. thank you Darian for 2013 kory sheets got u the glory u so craved (u don't know what I've been through.. kinda said it all in hindsight) everyone's gonna say what about the bc semi.. u got me there but with all things being equal sheets won u that season . Kg was a better qb. Plaza yes.every rider gets into that thing.. Hall of fame? Hellllll no. Dressler? Hes the ultimate underdog story but he backed it up until he bolted to the NFL.. now he's always injured certainly never put up Walters or zylstra or Mookie Mitchell numbers .. granted he had flutie who made the game look.like just that.. a game. Zach your on the clock now.. just entering your prime (see McManus and calvillo) .. I've seen u have the it. My biggest fear is that this fickle bitching fan base in sask won't want you to.mske u stay for long no matter how well you do. My advice is keep your headset on and have earplugs for post game.. play ball your gonna do awesome bud

Durant never has and still can't throw a screen pass.. how did he get do far?

Anonymous said...

Durant was 3rd string in 2007.

Anonymous said...

you would retire dressler and walters when elgaard and narcisse aren't even retired. this keeps getting better.

By winning, contrary to what Chris Jones would have you believe. If you recognize that the 2011 and 2016 Rider TEAMS were just not good enough, regardless of who was the QB, you'll see, all he did was win and his teammates followed and played for him.

That's how.

Kevin Glenn throws awesome screen passes though.
