TITAN AUTO RECAP: WARRIORS TOP PATS 3-2

Keith Hershmiller Photography
Regina – The Regina Pats dropped a nail biter, 3-2 to the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday night at the Brandt Centre.

Moose Jaw would score the lone goal of the first period and add another in the opening minute of the second to lead 2-0.

28 seconds after the second goal, Matt Bradley would score from the crease, his 15th to bring the Pats to within a goal. Then with the powerplay, Sam Steel hammered a one-timer from the right circle for his fifth and the game was tied 2-2.

It stayed that way until the final minute when Jayden Halbgewachs took a pass in the high slot and ripped a shot into the top corner to give the Warriors the 3-2 lead and that was the final score.

The Pats outshot Moose Jaw 33-30, the powerplay was one for five and the penalty kill two for three.

Tyler Brown made 27 saves for Regina, Brody Willms 31 for the Warriors. The Pats (11-7-2-0) will visit Moose Jaw for a rematch with the Warriors on Sunday at 4 p.m. at Mosaic Place.

What are the excuses going to be? Mj was missing Howden,Brooks and Zaitsev and still came away with the win on the rd. Pats have alot of work to do and before you say;wait till Paddock makes the deals, Miller will also make deals and really has the prospects and picks to trade

Good effort fellas.

Next game Brown should play without a stick as he does not use it to play with and is always picking it up off the ice as he continues to keep dropping it.

What the hell is up with that? His performance is not that of a 20 year goal tender and it is time to say thanks for all you have done for the club.

Brown has no consistency in his game at all and for all you Brown lovers I am tired of hearing how good he was in the playoffs. That is the past and if we do not get some consistency day in and day out on goal tending we will be in serious trouble.

Brown seems to loose focus many times, and the pucks going past him and the lack of ability to challenge players on shots is a joke. His style is drop before the shot and guess where the pucks go?

Paddock better have a good look at Browns performance and make a decision quick and if he keeps Brown for the season the only thing this team we be able to do is host the memorial cup and that is it.

pats are already in the dance no need to finish with best record, Shawinigan I believe being an example as hosts won it all

It was not a good effort whatsoever. Read Paddock's comments in the Leader Post and then you will see how he feels about the effort. The Pats were slow and poor all game. They were shooting from anywhere on the outside and that's why the game looked close but it never was. That is pretty much the team the Pats will have assembled and it is nowhere good enough. The team is barely staying ahead of Brandon and PA. This is a poor team with very little talent on it. Paddock is sandbagging people saying it's a work in progress. There is little progress because there is little talent. Since the season started he has done nothing to make this team better. To think he is going to mystically turn this team into something is ludicrous. Going this way this team will be lucky to finish above .500 and there aren't many deals he can make. His carelessness last year assured that. It appears somebody in the Pats office is continuing to smoke the the Jost pipe. Even if they had got him they would have needed much more. Very poor effort in constructing a Memorial Cup contender.

Good game to be at. Moose Jaw is going to be scary good with a full line up. Nice to see local kid Halbgewachs have a good game.

Pats are wasting a 20 year old spot on a goalie. Go out and get a goal scorer.

The Pats were humbled by the better team last night on the ice shift after shift after shift. Brown also let in two soft goals, and as a 20 year old goaltender he has to be the best player on the ice game in and game out and that he is not. Like the poster above said he is very inconsistent and the Pats will not come close to winning a Memorial Cup with Brown as the goaltender leading the pack.
The third period the Pats played afraid to lose instead of trying to win and when teams play that way the latter is usually the outcome. Paddock and company better realize and quick that this team is in no way near a Memorial Cup team and if this is the team going to the Memorial Cup they will be laughed out of each and every game. Not a Great Effort Pats

Host teams can win but they have to be very good teams to begin with. Windsor was a really good team last year. No sub-par host team ever wins it. Red Deer didn't, Saskatoon didn't, Brandon didn't etc etc. It's stupid to think that just getting to the show will somehow translate to success.

Brown continues to be mediocre and in close games that's all it takes. At least two from last night were very stoppable, perhaps all three. This team at the minimum needs two good big d-men, an elite goalie, and three good forwards. Now where does Paddock think he will get them, and how does he think he will pay for them. he needs to get his rear end in gear and make some meaningful deals. Fans were not happy with last night's effort. With the exception of the PBP crew, and they have to be.

MJ was without Howden, Zaitsev, and Brook. All high end players. They too will make moves and they have plenty to trade. If MJ makes the right moves they will easily put the Pats in their rear view mirror. The Pats should have been building all along instead of doing nothing while they continue to lose.

This season is starting to get away from the Pats.

From the looks of it we should be sellers……..

The Pats should of been building this year, instead of what trades they made last year. There was a very good chance that they were going to get the memorial cup, therefore should of traded Brooks, Hobbs etc to set them up this year otherwise don't go for the mem cup. Their team was built for last year like MJ'S is built for this year. With two good trades Mj will be scary good, the Pats will have to make 4-5 moves to compete with them

lol...the sky is falling the sky is falling!!

Pats are 6-3-1 in their last 10 (basically same last 10 record as MJ and SC) and lose to a very good team last night and JP has to panic right away?? All these blogger goaltenders that had a shut out every game they played make me laugh as well. "at least 2 of the goals should have been stopped, maybe all 3"....come on guys.

The Warriors and Broncos (if Swift can find some 2ndary scoring for the playoffs) are going to be the Teams to beat in the East this year so we will get to see a lot of great hockey.

I thought MJ was the better Team last night and while I was hoping we would get to OT to secure at least a point it did not happen as Jayden (a good hometown guy, well Emerald park is close anyway) put MJ ahead with a super shot to the top corner...yea any other goalie would have stopped that one too :))

Haven't read or heard JP's comments but from my perspective the Pats were trying to be "too cute" last night....soft passes; behind the back passes; too many damn passes!! trying to get the "pretty goal"...Shoot the puck and go after it in the gritty areas!

But alas it is only 1 game and it was great entertainment for a Friday night...good on both Teams for that. Assume Sunday rematch will be just as good.
Go Pats Go!

I'm 40 year Pats fan, but I am also a realist. Moose Jaw and especially Swift Current, are the two best teams in the WHL Eastern Conference right now.

Moose Jaw SWEEEPS the lowly Pats home and home this weekend. Pats be lucky to make the playoffs this year.
