RIDERS MOVE DAY 1 INDOORS

The Saskatchewan Roughriders held Day 1 of their practice week indoors at the Credit Union Eventplex on Wednesday as they prepare for Sunday's CFL Eastern Semifinal at Ottawa.

Head Coach and GM Chris Jones said they moved practice indoors because the players needed to run, stretch their legs, and get quality work in. It was -15 degrees Celsius in Regina on Wednesday with the wind chill.

The Riders had all of their running backs in uniform, including Cameron Marshall, Trent Richardson, Kienan LaFrance, Greg Morris and Marcus Thigpen. However Jones warned that although Richardson was on the field, he's not 100% after sustaining a lower body injury two weeks ago.

With lineman Brendon Labatte recovering from a leg injury suffered last week against Edmonton, Derek Dennis played Labatte's Left Guard spot. Jones said they do not have an update on Labatte, and will know more on Thursday.

As for Dennis, he's not sure if he'll start Sunday against the RedBlacks.

"I would hope so, but I'm not expecting anything," Dennis told reporters. "At the end of the day it's not my decision. It's the coaching staff's decision. My job as a football player is just to be ready to play."

Quarterback Kevin Glenn will start Sunday's game and as a veteran of 17 seasons, he's been through plenty of playoff wars. However his counterpart - Trevor Harris of the RedBlacks - will be making his first post-season start.

"The nerves are gonna be there (for him)," Glenn smiled. "It's gonna be a lot of excitement, and a lot of anxiety. I can almost guarantee you he'll be very anxious to get the game going. He probably won't be able to sleep the night before."

As for Jones, he's confident in his 10-8 Riders as they prepare to visit the 8-9-1 RedBlacks.

"One game is what our focus is," Jones shrugged. "I am confident with this football team. I like this football team. I like our character makeup. I like our athleticism. So we just gotta go over there and play our A-game."

The Riders will hold a closed practice on Thursday at Mosaic Stadium.

Kickoff on Sunday is noon Sask Time on TSN and the 620 CKRM Rider Radio Network.

It's amazing how quiet ridernation has been since they were pounded at home this by the 2017 Grey Gup champs and Canada's REAL team the EDMONTON ESKIMOS .

Dude this is a Riders site. Go pump the Esks on your teams site. I think its better for the Riders to play in Ottawa simply because of the weather. Riders didn't look too comfortable in the cold last week and with so many of their key players (Carter, Jefferson) from the deep south they're better off playing in better weather.

Easy fella ,we all get your an entitled fan of the most evil and therefor shamefull empire in cfl and sports history but let's let them.play the games first pal. Go Bombers. Go Riders!!

Its amazing how quiet the Eskimo troll fan was during the recent Edmonton 7 game losing streak. He must have been lonely since he likely has no friends.

Explain how it is the most shameful in the CFL and sports history. Is it because they paid over what the riders could afford back in the day, guess what...it was allowed at that time and any team could do it and not our problem you guys couldn't. Also if that is the problem I guess the Yankees are worse off...get over it bud and quit crying cause your team is one of the worst in history lol. Go Esks Go.

We’re not quiet, just travelling, it takes time to drive all that way, good thing we’re down east now, we shouldn’t have to worry about the cold weather even it it goes 3 weeks. It won’t. Get as cold as it does here anyways

Hey Esks fan. Go change your team name as suggested by the fine Mayor of Winnipeg.

The Eskimos aren't even the most popular sports team in their own city, never mind being Canada's football team. The most popular CFL team in Alberta is the Saskatchewan Roughriders. But do keep crying: it shows your envy and jealousy and it's absolutely delicious.

For the record Canada's team the Eskimos won 7 row lost 6 in a row than won 8 in a row to win the 2017 Grey Cup as usual riders fans can't count lost 6 in a row not 7 does not surprise me ,riders most popular team in Alberta? Lol just be happy you got 4th place not 5th AGAIN .As for the name ESKIMOS will not be changed as an Edmonton reporter went to northern Canada and interviewed many Inuit people and found out the many of them wear Eskimos logos proudly and are NOT offended by the name

That is because Edmonton can support an NHL team which is Canada's game so it's expected and is fine...Sask can only handle a CFL team hahaha. Also big deal about the name deal, to bad Winnipegs's mayor doesn't understand that most of the people that it would offend are proud to have a team named towards them...read the news before you spout off.

Your math isn't very good...how do they have a 7 game losing streak when they have a 12 and 6 record...go back to school or get some glasses.

To bad your mayor agreed the name should be changed also. Not that i am offended by it. but take your B.S to ypur own blog oh wait thats what i thought yours probably sucks that's why you are here. Crayon eaters from Edmonton say funny things

Do you actually read what you have written - "For the record Canada's team the Eskimos won 7 row lost 6 in a row than won 8 in a row to win the 2017 Grey Cup ".So far no one has won any 2017 grey cups that I know of. Not too concise after that either. You sending that from your favourite watering hole?

The Edmonton football club will lose big to the blue bombers this weekend. Which will be great because we won't have to hear from this guy anymore. Saying Edmonton is Canada's team because they have an NHL team ad all we can handle is a CFL team is pretty disrespectful to the league. Nobody cares if you have an NHL team that has nothing to do with the CFL. By the way how is your lacrosse team doing? Oh right you couldn't handle that either thanks.

Who cares about Lacrosse...that sport doesn't make headlines except in Sask of course...who would have thunk hahaha. Where is your NHL team...oh that's right you don't have one. Why is that? Because you wouldn't be able to support it because you don't have the population to support it. Love the CFL, greatest football game to watch.
