Keith Hershmiller Photography
Regina, Saskatchewan – The Regina Pats won their third straight game on Friday night, 4-3 over the Red Deer Rebels at the Brandt Centre.

The Rebels scored twice in the opening 17 minutes of the first period but Regina responded when Josh Mahura burned up the left wing and buried his sixth of the year to get the Pats to within a goal before the end of the period.

Jack Flaman restored the two goal lead for Red Deer early in the second frame, making it 3-1, but the Pats powerplay would respond.

First, Jonathan Smart potted his second of the season and then Josh Mahura hammered home his second of the night, seventh of the year, to tie the game 3-3 heading to the third.

The game stayed tied until the 9:44 mark when Matt Bradley scored from his knees at the left goal line for his team leading 14th and that stood up as the winner in a 4-3 final.

Regina outshot Red Deer 48-28, the powerplay was three for seven and the penalty kill four for four.
Josh Mahura, Jonathan Smart and Wyatt Sloboshan each had two point nights while Tyler Brown made 25 saves for his eighth win in goal.

A gutsy comeback tonight after basically being shut down in the 1st period even though 22-7 in shots for, with the help of 4 PP's.

The 2nd PP unit has been hot of late with Smart and Davidson showing great leadership and offensive skills. Will surely get them more playing time which gives the #1 unit players more time off and keeps all more fresh. Going to pay dividends as the season progresses.

They seem to be on a roll and I'm kinda sorry they have a week off but have played a ton of games in a short period to start the season so likely need the rest. Hopefully Sam and Josh play well in the Russian series...should be great to watch.

And another sellout :))

My thoughts on Sam Steel are I am wondering if being the captain of the team adds to much extra pressure on him as it seems that he is not playing as well as Sam can.

Maybe his injury is taking some of the Sam magic that he is so very well capable of doing, but it seems something is lacking.

In one of the previous games Sam got I believe a misconduct penalty for waving his stick in the direction of the official. Not the Sam we know.

One the other hand maybe when Henry gets back the magic will start again as the two play as a very well oiled unit.

So far the season is what is to be expected but it wont even come close to last season as I think a lot of people were made to believe.

We have a lot of excellent talent on this team and as for going all the way to the memorial cup as a finalist, is a very big challenge for the team.

GO Pats GO !!!!!!!

You forgot the most important one there mister.

You don't have Adam Brooks on the other line. Therefore he's playing every other teams top Defensive group. He's getting pounded.

Like this isn't rocket science.

It's never gonna be the 52 win season team. Think about it.....

Mr anonymous you are saying without Brooks steal is an average player with little production getting pounced by top defensive groups.

Explain the power play when he is on the ice.Oh yea Brooks is gone bullcrap he doesn't seem to be settled at all.

Who ever said it would be a 52 win season?

There has never been any intension to slam Steel at all it is just interesting to see what will happen this season and watch his adjustments.
