TAYLOR FIELD COMES DOWN

REGINA - A piece of Canadian football history has gone out with a bang in Regina.

The last standing section of the Mosaic Stadium, home to the Saskatchewan Roughriders for 80 years, was demolished Friday as hundreds of football fans dressed in the team's green jerseys watched on in a mix of nostalgia and sorrow.

The area is being converted to a mixed-use development and the city paid just over $2 million for the facility's deconstruction.

Many fans gathered behind a security fence, while others perched on nearby rooftops to watch the westside grandstands of the stadium topple.

Mosaic Stadium at Taylor Field was home to the Roughriders from 1936-2016.

The team opened the 2017 season in a new $278-million facility, also named Mosaic Stadium, right next door.

It has a capacity of 33,000 but can be expanded to 40,000 for major events.

"It is sad, a lot of memories,'' Elaine Kivisto said as she watched the last bit of the stadium come down.

"I've been a season ticket holder for 37 years, our sons played high school football here and so we came to all those games, so it is bittersweet.''

They shoulda put a roof on old Taylor Field, what a waste and shame. New stadium very bland and out of date already, field goal kickers nightmare with unpredictable on field swirling wind from all directions. Misfigured seating configuration not a true bowl design. North end zone wall a accident waiting to happen. New stadium also very cold as the cold just stagnates because of the overhead flaps drawing the cold temps downward into the fans seating area. Out of date beer drinking end zone with playboy bunny logos. Huh? Food and beverage prices out of whack. On and on it goes, wrong location build etc etc infinity...

Let me know if you have season tickets and if you want to sell them.

Yeah, we should have stayed in the old stadium with its cold water only option in the bathrooms, the cold metal benches and hard wooden benches where on a cold game and everyone bundled, seats would shrink or disappear. And all the ramps you would have to take to the upper deck with no elevator. Can't walk around the whole stadium concourse and had to enter at your gate only. Better angles for viewing the game especially for the end zone seats. The wind blowing through, it's Saskatchewan, we have wind no matter what. Pil Zone looks popular for being out of date. And the food prices were just as bad at the old stadium and any other stadium besides Atlanta's, so eat at home before you go. Agree with the location that it should be elsewhere but what can you do now. Yeah should have stayed at Taylor Field, NOT!!! It was time. Good riddance.

Wow anon 2 is this really true as I haven't been able to get to the new stadium for a game yet ?what are other people's thoughts of their experience is this true what anon 2 is saying ?

Nice try.... what a waiste of skin.
You go ahead. Climb those ramps. While your at it make sure you piggy back the production crew and their equipment up those ramps. Then hump it up those dangerous concrete steps. Then go and sit your ass on wooden bleachers for 3 hours.
What a fork!

Nothing a good old diy renovation wouldn't fix. Should have stayed at Taylor Field, YES!!!

No. I bet it is a Pig troll on here from Whiny Winterpig. The new stadium is really really nice. Modern. Not like the Bummers stadium which is already falling apart due to structural issues.
