*UPDATED* MONDAY RIDER PRACTICE REPORT

REGINA - The Roughriders returned to the practice field on Monday for the first time since Friday's 33-32 home loss to the Ottawa RedBlacks.

Here are some notes:

- The team officially announced on Monday morning that 11-year veteran Canadian receiver Chris Getzlaf has signed a practice roster contract with the club. Getzlaf said it "couldn't feel better" to be back with his hometown team. The 34-year old revealed that he asked for his release from the Edmonton Eskimos two weeks ago and has been in Regina ever since.

- Rider Coach Chris Jones said Getzlaf approached the team and "wanted to be a part of what we're doing."

- Getzlaf wore #71 in practice on Monday, which was his original number with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats during training camp in 2007. He said he doesn't plan on asking veteran Rider receiver Duron Carter to give up his traditional #89.

- Chris Jones revealed after practice that leading rusher Cameron Marshall will return to the backfield after missing several weeks due to injury. Meanwhile Chad Owens lined up at slotback in place of the injured Naaman Roosevelt on Monday. Jones said that's likely the way things will go in Friday's game at Calgary.

- Jones also confirmed that left guard Derek Dennis will miss this game with a back injury and his absence means veteran lineman Dan Clark will be activated for the Calgary game.

- Regarding Friday's 33-32 loss to Ottawa in which the Riders blew a 12-point lead with five minutes to go, Jones said, "I've got to do a better job managing the game. You can put this one on me."

- TSN's Dave Naylor said on SportsCentre Monday night that the Riders confirmed an altercation involving receiver Duron Carter during Monday's practice.  There were rumours floating in the afternoon that three players have been released but the team says those rumours are false. Naylor reported that Chris Jones will speak to the matter on Tuesday.

- I saw the whole skirmish and it was no different than the hundreds of others I've seen over the years.

- Veteran Rider cornerback Jovon Johnson Tweeted Monday evening: "There was an altercation at practice (and) tempers flared. It's football! Truly doesn't deserve the type of attention it's received. It truly wasn't that freaking serious! Nor is any of the allegationst true! So let us focus and do our jobs and stop spreading rumours!"

Yikes! A weakened O line can only mean more heat in the pocket for Kevin Glenn against Calgary's tough to handle D line. The only hope to beat Calgary in Calgary - and it is a long shot - is to have a good running game that includes the run option by a more athletic dynamo at QB i.e. Brandon Bridge.

Mr. Chris Jones always accountable, something previous handpicked head coach Cory Chamblin wasn't. I like it, I like it alot, being organization/team accountable.

Never heard that roosevelt or Dennis were hurt which leads me to believe the riders are set on settling on 4th place and he crossover and won't try to win anymore games this regular season as the believe BC doesn't win out and want he easy road to the grey cup.

A couple of weeks ago Murphy says no interest in Getzlaf because we are tryin to get younger. Fast forward to now and they sign Getzlaf. Are there no younger Canadian receivers out there John? How about Mitchell Baines? How about Riley Wilson?

Once again, John Murphy fails the Riders. I can only hope Wetenhall's kid finds someway to lure him to Montreal when Kavis and crew are let go. Talk about pulling the wool over an organization's eyes.

Roddy, you might want to take a look at what Carter has tweeted in the last hour. WTF?

there is an article on 3downnation that says a fight broke out between Carter and Williams (the def back). It says it was promoted by one of the coaches.......doesn't sound right already hey?? Then it states both Carter and Bakari Grant were told by a coach they will never play for the riders again and they will be booked out of town. Hey Rod, can you dig into this....it sounds real bad and actually real wrong with coaches promoting the fight. But then Carter tweets that its been nice knowing ya!!

Carter once again proving he is a piece of work...fighting a defensive player. One team official stated one player for sure will not be playing another game this season. Check out 3 down nation

Are you forgetting something from your practice rundown, Roddy?

What’s the scoop with the 3 down nation report that Bakari Grant & Duron Carter are gone what the he’ll is going on??

I like Duron Carter. He put Jeff Fairholm in his place and I like the tweet where he tells a guy if he did for his life what people wanted him to do then he'd be watching football with them.

3 down nation story a bunch of BS. Just trying to stir up a story from nothing. Tempers flair in football, shows they all want to win.

Carter and other receivers were bowling Monday night and having a blast. He's not going anywhere folks.

3 Down Nation is a trashy rag a la the enquirer... only want your clicks on their website to earn ad dollars! Complete crap!

Just another garbage report by Naylor who has a habit of doing that. On the practice field there are always going to be dust ups. Has happened here before and will again. It's nothing more than competitive juices.

The real sad thing is that there are a few people on this site living in mom's basement and don't have any life at all. They live for any kind of gossip no matter how unreliable, and insist on knowing more about every little rumour. That so they can spread it some more and put their unknowing spin on it. Others acting on gossip to defame someone no matter how unreliable the information. Very freaking sad existence, because an existence is all it is.

Great to see Cameron Marshall back in the line up,Chad Owens should be well rested and ready to go.I expect a big game from Owens, time for him to earn his pay.The Oline needs to step it up.

Woke up this morning to a buzz of rumors,I will wait for coach Jones to comment when asked, hopefully he will just laugh and move on to the next question.Seen a picture this morning of some of the Riders out bowling, what bowling alley in Regina allows you to bowl with your street shoes and why isn't the sports media all over it lol.

It's posts like these that makes me remember there are lots of casual, uninformed fans around and to just smile and waive at their lack of understanding.

Dyck Rubnutz may very well be the best online name ever to appear on this blog comment board

This was the first time I was tempted to visit 3Down since I quit going there in preseason. After reading Duron's tweets, I'm glad I didn't bother. Edwards is a nice guy, but his sources are suspect.

Last fight I was in, mind you it was a long time ago, there were two of us. No one right or wrong, just an escalated disagreement. So why immediately blame Carter? And if the report about the coach instigating is true, HE should be gone. But it came from Madani and 3rd Dumb Nation, so likely false.

The kid has been nothing but spectacular on and off the field this year and is arguably the best player in the league. The Riders will win a ton of games on Carter's back. So grab a glass of shut up juice and drink up

"- Rider Coach Chris Jones said Getzlaf approached the team and "wanted to be a part of what we're doing.""

But but Jones is a meanie, but but treats vets terribly, he's a bad person.

But but, no he isn't. He knows exactly what he's doing, the Jones haters and sky is falling crowd are having a pretty tough year, cuz they're flat out wrong.

Which media person takes the blame on this one?

Someone needs to. Regina has been bad for years for media with cfl and whl.

Not you rod. Your the man.

Must be that negative talk radio station.

So who fed Madani the “fake news” he reported?..
