GETZLAF SIGNS WITH RIDERS

REGINA - A familiar face is returning to the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

620 CKRM has learned the Roughriders have signed veteran Canadian wide receiver Chris Getzlaf.

The move was confirmed by the football club on Sunday.

Getzlaf - a 34-year old Regina product - was released by the Edmonton Eskimos last month after originally signing with the Esks in 2016.

Getzlaf was drafted by Hamilton out of the U of R in 2007 but spent the next 10 seasons with his hometown Roughriders, winning two Grey Cups and being named the 2013 Grey Cup Most Outstanding Canadian.

The Riders have injuries at the Canadian receiver position including Nic Demski and Devon Bailey.

The Riders return to the practice field on Monday for the first time since Friday's 33-32 home loss to Ottawa.

The 8-7 Riders visit Calgary Friday night.

I was hoping this would happen, welcome back Chris, it's where you belong!

Good for Getz! Any chance he'll play against the stamps this coming game? He was always a stamps killer

looks like Getz will retire a Rider after all. This will be his last run

Good solid insurance Getzlaf is, much better player than Baggg. Now sign Mr. Jones to 10 year contract extension.

I am surprised that the wagon jumpers, & all the critic’s of C. Jones haven’t said what a stupid move this is.
Well good for Jone’s & Getz. He still has some gas in the tank, if he get’s a chance to step in.

I guess when your career is facing an end, you're willing to swallow your pride and make up with Chris Jones.

I'm not betting on Getzlaf having a great final run with us. But I hope I'm wrong. It would be a great ending to the story.

Welcome back Getz!

Really?

This shows the "intelligence" of the Rider fan-base. Oh good, a local guy who is washed up and can wear a Rider jersey one more time is coming back. YAYYYYY!!!

That isn't the way to build a championship team. When are you people going to realize this.

If this is a sign and retire fine, but if this is for the intention of Chris to play, it shows Murphy's inability to find talent yet again.

Any other 30 some receiver who came here with the same situation as Chris would be met with negativism so how is this different?

what pride is Getzlaf swallowing? He wasn't cut by Chris Jones.

Facts over fiction. Rider Nation = dumbest fan base in CFL, but hey we've got pride.

Wow. Not a negative comment around. Nice spin. This from the Rider crowd who dissed Getzlaf when he left & now he's better than Bagg. How about, Lewis, Jones has to admit he needs Getzlaf, not Getzlaf has to swallow his pride? Glad he's back. Getzlaf is a Rider but Maas & Reilly had nothing but good things to say about him & his contributions while well over his prime. You may want to know Zylstra credits Getzlaf for a lot of his development. - all this while the Rider crowd couldn't run him out of town fast enough last year. Your Rider heros become zeros really quick when they switch uniforms.

It's called a ratio wise guy

Was signed for insurance. I don't expect him on the field very often.

Correction; it's Riderville not Rider Nation. The same fanbase who abandoned the Roughriders in droves last Friday? walking away after the second half, why was that? pride???? No!

How about Chad Owens? Their depth at receiver and particularly Canadian receiver or Canadians in general is not good.

RE CORRECTION: ELATION IN RIDERVILLE SURELY DOES NOT RHYME.

IT WOULD BE NICE IF THEY WOULD THROW TO BAGG MORE THAN ONCE OR TWICE A GAME. IT'S NOT AS IF HE HAS DONE ANYTHING TO LOSE THE CONFIDENCE OF THE QB.

what pride is Getzlaf swallowing? I HAVEN'T WATCHED MANY EDMONTON GAMES, BUT AT THE VERY LEAST HE WOULD BE A HECKUVA LOT CHEAPER NOW AFTER BEING CUT AND UNEMPLOYED FOR A WHILE. HE WAS ALWAYS GOOD AT MAKING SOME OF THE DIFFICULT CATCHES.

Getzlaf = a little bit left in the tank, not much, but helps.
Bagg = done, time to retire.

You're drunk right?

What pride has to be swallowed?

He was a free agent who Chris Jones didn't want to sign back in February 2016.

Jones moved on and so did Chris. You're probably another one of those people that feel every veteran cut by the Riders wasn't done properly and that there should've been some sort of going away parade party!

Wow really!

He left as a free agent! He didn't fit Jones plans for the future. Not a big deal really.

His signing now is to help us short term with the ratio. An unsigned 25 year old Canadian has less upside at this point than Chris as he's a veteran who can help for the last few games.

If Bagg wants the ball he needs to get open more often. Not enough balls to spread around as well.

I'd be curious to hear from Murphy on this. Rod, remember you asked him if they'd consider Getzlaf after he was released from Edmonton? He said "look at who we're signing now" (younger Canadian receivers).

Getzlaf better than Bagg???? HA HA HA HA

Let me guess, you also think Kavis Reed is a better HC than Dickinson or Trestman.
