ROOSEVELT OUT, RICHARDSON IN

(Naaman Roosevelt/Trent Richardson)
Tuesday is a newsworthy day in Riderville. Let's recap:

- Leading receiver Naaman Roosevelt wasn't present on Day 1 of the work week. I'm told he's going through the league's concussion protocol and is being evaluated daily. Rob Bagg wore Roosevelt's #82 in practice likely as a sign of support. Rider receivers have done this for years.

- Head Coach Chris Jones revealed Roosevelt won't play this week at Ottawa.

- The Riders officially signed RB Trent Richardson. The Alabama star and 2012 NFL first round pick has NFL playing experience with the Colts and Browns. He didn't participate in the offence on Tuesday but was brought up to speed by RB coach Kent Maugeri.

- Chris Jones said Richardson won't see the field until they're convinced he's in CFL shape. Jones confirmed he won't play Friday at Ottawa.

- Asked about the resumption of his pro career after not seeing the field since 2014, Richardson said "I just want to play football".  He said his "itch" to play football was so bad that he couldn't even watch games or ESPN's Sportscenter. However unlike Vince Young, Richardson's not coming back to the game because he's upset over the way his NFL career ended. He reiterated that he simply missed being on the field.

- Asked if his signing will be viewed as ploy to get back to the NFL, Richardson replied, "It is".

- Other transactions:

ADDED TO PRACTICE ROSTER:

RELEASED:
  • International receiver/returner Joe Craig
  • International running back Josh Harris
  • International defensive lineman Montori Hughes
  • International defensive back Mohammed Seisay

- Meanwhile the Edmonton Eskimos released WR Chris Getzlaf.

Trent Richardson - injury plagued, washed up player whose best days are long past him due to injury

Nice to hear and see the team progress under Jones, Murphy with their universal football conections, good player signings building the team. Previous regime's gm idea of scouting down south was to spend time at Disney Land Cal. what a goof! Roughriders organization can now be classified a true professional football sports franchise.

Montreal would be a very good fit for Chris Getzlaf, especially now that Nic Lewis is injured.

ummm, Nic Lewis is an import. Getzlaf is a non-import and because of that asks for more than he's worth.

Another player Jones released that no one wants. Who would have thought that. I wouldn't say Trent is washed up until we see what he can do. Its very obvious we need a running back

Getzlaf left SSK via free agency. I'm sure you'd love to believe he was another Jones casualty, but he was never released.

What do we have to lose by giving Richardson a shot.....lighten up guys..they said Wilder was washed up and hadn't played for a while...these are probably some of the same guys that criticized Jones when he signed Joe McKnight

Chris is just the right age to fit in the Al's dressing room. Look for Kavis to add him to the roster. Being over 30 is key to getting on that team. No rebuild for that team, unlike the fiasco last year in Riderville.

Hope Richardson surprises everyone! We need a bull up the middle!

Getzlaf wasn't a Jones casualty true...but Jones knew due to his age he wasn't going to fit in to his plans of a younger receiving corps.

As I stated here on RODPEDERSEN.COM a couple weeks back. How long before Darian Durant comes up with a lame a** injury excuse to sidetrack team fan base criticism, well it happened today. He has a lower body injury. Release him and Reed already Mr Wentenhall.

He was a free agent because Jones did want him back.

Why are people complaining about this? Maybe from Calgary? Winnipeg?

I think this is great, my glass is always half full. This could be good news or no news, but how can it really be bad news? If it doesn't work out then he'll be gone. What the heck.

like the size and age of the new linemen, hopefully they are mean and can play.

Wow, wasn't Rod schooled by Arash Madani. Tough having that red-neck view when the rest of the world thinks differently. So instead of admitting he was right, just changed subjects. Good one! Not in-noticed but good one anyway.

You listened to my show, ran straight to my blog, and still think I'M the one being schooled?

Think again.

Four hours later is hardly "running to my computer". Your were schooled Rod. Just my opinion and everybody is entitled to an opinion right? :)

"Nice to hear and see the team progress under Jones, Murphy with their universal football conections,"

You can't be serious, in two years they have never 'uncovered a gem' Everybody they sign has been around the block several times.

Obviously their "Connections" are non-existent.

Arash, an opinionated know-nothing blowhard. Take a hike already! Never could stand you.

Rod's point is very important about all people, including those holding public positions or positions of influence, being able to express their opinions. It is of value and far better than having racists hide behind a white sheet and serve as a mayor or upstanding business man in the community. Ie. if someone holds racist, sexist or homophobic views it is better that they are transparent and perhaps confronted through education and dialogue in the open, instead of staying in the shadows.

you prefer taman oday. Obviously their "Conections" are non-existent as they are.

What happened to Josh Harris? He was announced on Tsn but didnt play and now he is not even on the roster

@Riderrobert I'm wondering about Josh Harris too. I think he got in on one offensive play and then we never saw him again, and now he's released? What happened?
