RIDERS ACQUIRE VERNON ADAMS FROM MONTREAL

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have acquired international quarterback Vernon Adams and a fifth-round selection in the 2018 CFL Draft from the Montreal Alouettes.

In exchange, the Riders sent national defensive back Tevaughn Campbell, a third-round selection in the 2018 CFL Draft and a third-round selection in the 2019 CFL Draft to the Al's.

Adams (5'11 – 200) was originally acquired by the Alouettes in a May, 2016 trade with the B.C. Lions, where he went on to dress for 15 regular-season games last season. The Oregon Ducks product completed 42 of 75 pass attempts for 575 yards and four touchdowns through three starts during his rookie campaign.

This season, the 24-year-old California product has dressed for all seven games as Montreal's backup quarterback where he has picked up nine rushing yards and one touchdown on eight carries.

Does this mean that Vince Young won't be back?

Very good deal for the future! Very mobile and did very well here last year when he played against us. Would have been starting in Montreal had in not been for the Durant trade.

Good trade for Riders. I thought Campbell was switching to rugby anyways. Adams has been moderately successful in Montreal.

Hope it's not due to an injury

I like this move. Adams provides something the Riders don't have, and that's a running quarterback. I could see him running the wildcat and maybe even short yardage. At 24, he has a high ceiling. Good job Jones & Murphy!

A great powerhouse qb tandem shaping up, waiting on the Franklin arrival in Riderville. The pieces to the team build falling into place, bravo! Thank you Mr. Reynolds/Mr. Jones/Mr. Murphy! Saskatchewan Roughriders on the way to the top!

This trade makes no sense unless glen or bridges is injured as I thought they were high on bridges and williams

Leads me to believe 1 of 2 things.

1. Franklin is about to be traded to Montreal and the Riders are getting a qb who no longer has a path to the starting qb job in Montreal.

2. Edmonton wants a young qb to develop as part of a trade for Franklin and the Riders just went and got one to flip as part of a future Franklin deal. Adams would command less money than Franklin that would fit bether in the salary cap structure.

Bwahaha Durant wasn't good enough but his backup is!!! So let me get this straight, we essentially gave up three Canadians for a quarterback who has thrown 75 passes and completed 42 for grand completion percentage of 56% and 4 passing Td's! What is going on with Jones? He is obviously starting to crack under the pressure. Ride this year out and then it's time to pay him to move back home. Let's get this organization back to the contender it should be. We the fans deserve it!!!

Oh Lord. Here we go again. Just ride Glenn out for 3 seasons

Anonymous said...

I would think, that's what it means, as we are short one.

Anonymous said...

Here we go again to the 1990's where we give up draft picks to get someone else's castoffs. What is wrong with Bridge and Williams other than rarely if ever getting a chance to play.

Anonymous said...

Interesting.

Where does he start on the depth chart? 3rd or 2nd or 4th?

I think the Riders tried to get him during the Durrant shuffle.

So the Riders now have a new #3 QB. Big deal.

Better question, does this mean we can finally put those Franklin is the savior rants to bed.

Great trade. Great.

So let me get this straight the Riders have Glenn, Adams and Bridge all MTL QB's in 2016 and MTL did nothing. MTL now has Durant and Willy who did nothing last year. Recycling QB'sS is crazy find someone and develop them.

You guys picked Adam's up because you aren't getting Franklin...watch and see, he will be traded to Toronto by end of season with a new contract

Sooooooo. Bridge was made 3/4th string when Adams arrived and then Bridge left the team.

The Als were not confident in Adams, so they snagged Durant.

Now Adams is expendable under Durant so they must have someone better than Adams as a backup.

By my calculations, that makes Adams a third string QB on Montreal.

So now we have Montreals third and fourth string QBs.

Oh well, we cut many a QB that has gone on to play well elsewhere. Lets hope Montreal has done the same.

I dont see it as a bad thing. Just interesting.

I don't understand some of the comments...what could possibly be the downside of adding this player to the roster for a non starting player...he's young..probably doesn't have a real big contract.

Ben Franklin is still the future QB in waiting for our beloved Riders!

Anonymous said...

You "the fans" deserve squat.

Anonymous said...

Don't you have your own blog? Oh yeah, no you don't because nobody cares about the Eskies in oiler country.

Anonymous said...

Because these so called "fans" just like to bitch.

Anonymous said...

So, what does this mean for bridge ? He'll be gone, he's Canadian. To bad.

Anonymous said...

Yup, as I said, not a bad thing. Really nothing negative

Ronnie Lancaster, let go by Ottawa
Mike Rielly let go by BC
Jennings, let go by Sask

The list goes on.

But it is interesting :)

And currently the Riders 4th QB is ???? Let's give credit where credit is due. This young man has CFL experience not a raw rookie (Williams) Perhaps the coaches see something in him they don't see in the others? Why is every move Jones makes to better the team seen as a negative? The guy was an Oregon Duck which is a dominant college team. He started and won 3 games as an Alouette.Passer rating 92.5 so all in all a good trade. He would be familiar with Carter and Bridge too.

Franklin & Adams both in Regina. Yeah, that'll happen. Adams trade bait for Franklin. Yeah, that'll happen. Franklin traded to highest bidder in the East - bingo. Rider fans obviously are under the delusion that Jones is smarter than everyone else & that other GM's are village idiots. That's why Jones is still busy trading for whatever he can get because the team he has put together is so good. I think Adams can develop but 3 Nationals for an unknown quantity at QB? What - Jyles wasn't available??

Nando said...

This is a bad trade because of the draft picks included. Should have been straight up- Canadian DB for a back up American quarterback who was falling down the depth chart in Montreal. But to give up two 3rd round picks is over paying again. The teams that value Canadian draft picks and players in the CFL win.

Anonymous said...

Put it this way. John Hufnagel wouldn't have traded a Canadian and two third round picks for an import and a fifth rounder. It's just not a long term winning strategy.

Mr Jones is a football maven, plus he's a genius in the side in his spare time.

Anonymous said...

Are you really being serious with the Ben part...hope not because otherwise you need to really catch up

Anonymous said...

Wow people are dumb here!!

Why would Edmonton ever trade the riders a qb. Adams could be the next guy age 24.

Always complaining. Water fountains trades etc. losers.

Anonymous said...

Ben Franklin???? Last I heard of him he was flying a kite in a lightning storm. Not sure he's an upgrade.

Anonymous said...

Jennings was never let go by Sask. He declined to sign after Rider's the spring mini-camp as he wanted to take another shot at the NFL.

Anonymous said...

Montreal wanting Rob Bagg is no surprise. It seems players under 30 need not apply in Montreal!

Anonymous said...

If Jennings was never let go, then why is he now playing for BC? Answer - because his playing rights were released by the previous 3 stooge goofs who ran the gong showon behalf of the Riders. Winnipeg just now pulling themselves up after 10 years of Taman and company, decade plus longggggg recovery. Glad Jones in Sask. he'll have that franchise top tier, top notch soon rather than later.

CM said...

good trade Als traded a first to get him. Jones' must not be sold won Bridge or Williams or both or there would be no reason to give up 2 3rd rounders. All you got back for Durant was a 3rd rounder after all.

Adams to Edmonton
Franklin to Saskatchewan.

You read it first…….. done deal.

You anons are killing me:) Ben Franklin ... and done deal. Haha
