BOMBERS SPOIL NIK LEWIS'S NIGHT

MONTREAL - Justin Medlock kicked his fourth field of the game in overtime as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers defeated the Montreal Alouettes 34-31 to extend their winning streak to five games on Thursday night.

Montreal slotback Nik Lewis caught 10 passes to set a CFL record with 1,031 career receptions, two more than B.C. Lions great Geroy Simon.

Regulation time ended at 23-23. Both teams got touchdowns and two-point conversions on their first possession in OT, but Darian Durant was picked off by Chris Randle on the Alouettes' second try. That left an easy 38-yard boot for Medlock for the win.

The Alouettes erased a 10-point Winnipeg lead in the final 5:07 of regulation time, with Boris Bede tying the game with a 48-yard field goal with nine seconds left on the clock. The final play saw the teams punt the ball back and forth as the Bombers tried to avoid giving up a single on the kickoff. The ball was kicked five times before it was run out of bounds.

Matt Nichols threw touchdown passes to Clarence Denmark and Julian Feoli-Gudino for the Bombers (7-2), whose winning run started with a wild 41-40 win over the Alouettes in Winnipeg on July 27.

George Johnson and Ernest Jackson caught touchdown passes and Bede booted three field goals for Montreal (3-6), which was coming off a 38-6 loss in Toronto last week.

Give Winnipeg some credit. Their defense came up with a timely interception and allowed Medlock to win with a chip shot. That team has confidence and 7 wins. We have 3. Lots of season left, but we need to start a winning streak of our own.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers finally! finally! pulling out from under the disaster called the Brendan Taman years. Sask has it good with Chris Jones at the helm in their team rebuild which won't be as long as the Bombers. The wasteful player contracts to a select few by the Sask Roughriders previous regime nicely punted by Jones. Thank you Mr. Reynolds.

His late 4th qtr TD pass was a poor throw also badly under thrown but receiver adjusted and came back to it! Most INT's in the league this year. Durant is done like dinner. How long before Kavis(13th man) Reed is canned?

For the life of me i will never understand how Reed keeps getting high level jobs in the cfl.

Another huge game by the "winner" Darian Durant... Hahahahahaha!!!

I'm just glad he's underthrowing those 450k screen.passes for someone else now . They got close but close doesn't cut it. Go riders!!

Another game and more caustic comments from the called Rider fans. Darian generated 422 yards was 31/43 in passing and ran for 32 yards. The Als had 28 first downs in spite of several 'drops' by a receiver caked Cunningham yet the 'Caustic Clowns' blame an old Rider for the loss.

Us clowns are no more caustic than you. DD threw the pick at the worst possible time. Something he's done before and will do again. We're just saying he's not worth the price he wanted and he showed us why again. We'll keep what we have, clown. The captcha sucks.

Numbers numbers .. I did think he played good just not good enough to win. It's been knock against gen and burris too.. waiting for the mistake .those turnovers will kill ya It was a great game to watch though I didn't realize he threw for that much

2 Interceptions, 1 fumble, 2 TD's. You can put up a ton of yards but if it's turned over then it means nothing.

Call it caustic all you want, the green colored glasses have been removed and we can see what we had in Durant and how we defended him in the same way for years. He was part of the team for a long time and will be put into the Plaza of honor one day. But he has now left, went off to greener pastures as it were, and for now, that makes him the enemy. No different then any other QB in the league, until his retirement.

In this day and age of technology why does the CFL or TSN not have cameras set up at the goal lines for every game. Can't be that hard. Make this your next mission Commish Randy. I'm sure that was still a TD, but without conclusive evidence....had to go with the call on the field.

Too bad for the last pic. Als should have won but Cunningham and Giguere dropped a lot of throws. DD still good but Wpg has the luck this year. Plus Medlock.

Glad you rider fans are laughing it up at Durant losing...shows how smart you really are due the Bombers being in the West and moving further away from you game by game. By the way he may have the last laugh when your sitting not watching the CFL in the play-offs and he is still playing.

Medlock has Been CLUTCH . I won't pretend to the salaries of other kickers but I recall wondering out loud if his (over 100k I believe) and thinking it was outrageous for a kicker. Boy was I wrong because he wins them games. Money well spent and forward thinking by the Bomber brass I will admit.

Two interceptions and a fumble! That looks good to you? Montreal put up a fight and he cost them the game! Is that worth 450K? Cash the cheques Darian, you'll never see that kind of money again!

Lets not mention that trick play on 3rd down!!!!

Great post as well as Los post above. Call it caustic or whatever word you want...reality is 2 picks hurt the cause. Also keep in mind the football Gods comments are Darien's own comments so I think anything that is said about them is pretty much for you game however you keep praying around in your Alouettes Jersey if you want.. he was overrated here and now he's overpaid and overrated at there.

I'd like to thank Taman for doing what he had to do to bring a Grey Cup here on home turf.

Anything less would've been considered a failure.

He did what he had to do at the expense of the future.

Could be a while. His team is in second place in the weak Eastern division and will host a home playoff game.

The Rider teams of the 80s missing playoffs while weaker Eastern teams played on.

Anonymous said...

So your saying 7-2 is all luck?

C'mon give credit where's it's due. Regardless of who they have played they still won 7 games.

Bombers winning against East teams! They should choke on their swag soon enough!

OKayyyy man.. we get it you love Durant. I think everyone is seeing what we really had. "Moderately succesful" might even be generous. There is No Way he's worth what he's Sucking fom his team's salary cap so i believe he and he alone is already getting the last laugh .. heck he was already laughing when he grabbed a million bucks to sit at home for most of 2 seasons on a cfl team. He got paid for his grey cup. Move on. He plays for the enemy now and I'm glad we didn't bow to his outrageous salary ask. Heck BLM isn't even get to g 400 k and what's he lost like 3cgames in his career or some darn thing? That's how u build a team through selflessness and humility especially in the cfl .. not gimme gimme gimme .. spread it around where you can. You can't be that selfish when your not THAT good anymore. Jones made the right call and now we're cheering against rival teams. SORRY! :-)

Congrats Bummers. . Your better than us right now. Burnie Nichols has come a long ways from his days in LA playing with gretz and you got caught he'll of a kicker. But it won't last. The universe will be right soon.. hopefully after labor day and the banjo bowl

Bombers look very good to me. O'shea is a great coach. Nichols and haris are top notch. Adams seems to be a great target. And Medlock is money.

Lancaster and DD ... The only Rider QBs that took us to multi cups and won half our cups in over 100 years. As the worlds greatest fans booed Ronnie in his last home game (EE fans gave him a standing ovation in his last game) and now I read all this tripe dumping on DD ... from the worlds greatest fans. I cheer for DD simply because he gave us all he had to give and as an old fashioned guy that I am I never cheer for failure of anyone who gives their all. (DD has more character than half the above posters put together)

Tainted 2013 gc title orchestrated by a league collusuon intervention to appease a long suffering fanbase. Taman/O'Day/Hopson shown the door thereafter. End of story.

Sorry Bub! Saskatchewan qb Kent Austin the best there ever was, the best there ever will be. End of subject! Darian Durant... Huh???? Not even in the same league with Kent or Ron Lancaster. Hmmm... Mr. Kent Austin personally responsible for 3 of 4 Grey Cup titles in a very long drawn out history of the Saskatchewan Roughriders Footbal Club. End of subject!
