RIDERS CUT NEWSOME, ADD ZVER, MAKE 7 OTHER MOVES

The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced they have signed national offensive lineman Jeremy Zver.

Zver (6’5 – 295 lbs.) was selected by the B.C. Lions in the second round (16th overall) of the 2017 CFL Draft after spending four seasons at the University of Regina. The 23-year-old Regina resident started 25 collegiate games at left tackle while with the Rams. He was named a Canada-West All-Star following the 2016 season.

Zver attended training camp with the B.C. Lions. He spent the opening week on the Lions injured list.

I thought Tull had a good first game and good pre season. Maybe didnt want to stay on the practise roster???

Was Davis Tull not doing a great job? Thought he looked really good.

already hearing the Riders released a well known Defensive lineman that is not named in this article.
I believe he played defensive end. Then again I'm still familiarizing myself with these players. Feels strange not to know each player at every position. Is this really my favourite team? I'm having trouble memorizing all the new names.

That interception by Newsome must have been the last straw!

D-line gets 4 sacks including a couple at crucial moments...secondary gets burnt, burnt and burnt again...let's cut some d-linemen.

Except for the occasional old Bagg jersey, scanning the crowd at the game it was hard to find any jersey with a current Rider player's name on it. Now we can add the Newsome jersey into the been here and gone pile.

The only thing revolving around here are the fans emotions.

On the bandwagon, off the bandwagon.

Thankfully the select few that choose to comment on here are the minority and not the vast majority.

I'm curious how most of the commenters on here deal with crisis in their lives!

New some and Jones had differing opinions. Coach should win that battle every time. Liked Newsome a lot but Jones is the head honcho and a team can't be successful if individual players call the shots. Like him or hate him Jones is in charge.

How long is Caleb Holley out for? We have lost two solid receivers in the first two weeks of the year in him and Collins. Owens won't be ready for a while and Bagg played with a limp on Saturday night. Surprised they haven't brought back Stoshak who can play slot or even Joe Craig who can play slot and return kicks.

Newsome just didn't seem to fit. Only 2 sacks in 20 games. People, relax, it wasn't like he was John Chick or Shawn Lemon!

By the way, to the comment above about revolving door season 2, Ottawa just made 7 roster changes this week as well. They just won the Grey Cup last year, but are 0-2 this year. Pressure to win on all teams in this league is now, you don't have 2 years to wait or you won't be working long!!

Looks like the riders isn't the choice of a lot of players lately, How are we going to have any stability with this revolving door , only player I know is glen,

What we don't know is more than we know. But do know the team wants to win as much as the fans. And ... despite the mantra of 'winning is the only thing' ... that's sports cliche. Hate losing as much as anyone and it sucks. But ... always get some entertainment from every game. For 3 hours in a close game the rest of the world doesn't exist. If only the W matters then why spend 3 hours to get there?

Great, let's cut Tull just before we cut Newsome.

Brilliant!

I bet that will help our porous secondary.
