Regina Red Sox needed extra innings to win 9-8 over the Melville Millionaires on Fan Appreciation Day at Currie Field.

With 672 fans in attendance the Red Sox honoured five-year veteran and local Saskatchewan product Jordan Schulz in a pre-game ceremony.

Regina born Chase Nister, the hard throwing right hander from Taft Community College had a solid eight inning start for the Sox.  The Money Men managed just five runs on nine hits against Nister. The Red Sox bullpen closed things out with Justin Magstadt picking up the win.

For Melville it was pitching by committee as they used seven pitchers in the game. Thomas Halcomb took the loss in relief.

The only thing hotter than Red Sox catcher Antonio Torres’ bat was the temperature, which peaked at 35C. Torres was five for five with a walk, three runs and an RBI. Schulz had two hits and a RBI in his final regular season appearance at Currie Field.

Melville’s Jared Johnson had a predictive day at the plate three hits and two runs.

Win the win the Red Sox finished the season in third place with a 29-19 record. Melville wraps up their season at 16-32.

Regina will now head to Weyburn to meet the Beavers in the first round of the playoffs.
