3DOWNNATION: VINCE YOUNG'S RIDER STATUS STILL "UP IN THE AIR"

3DownNation.com Staff:

While at an event for Hennessey cognac this week, Vince Young made some very intriguing comments to Fox7 News regarding his future with the Riders.

“It’s still up in the air. Coach Jones just told me, ‘Hey man go get healthy, take your time, don’t try to rush back, but just know this opportunity is still here if you want to come back,'” Young says. “You never know what happens.”

“It’s a long season, so the biggest thing is, first of all with hammy’s you don’t want to rush it. I got some really good guys out here that’s getting me back where I need to be at, taking my time. It’s all about rehab.”

Young tore his hamstring during training camp with Saskatchewan. That led to his release, though it’s been reported that the Riders added him to the “retired” list and therefore still control his CFL rights.

In the clip, which runs just over two minutes, Young also addresses the Sports Illustrated article in which he slammed former coach Jeff Fisher and refers to himself in the third person twice.

We want him back. I like how he refers himself in the third person. That's cool. Hopefully Luc can do that in the future too.

Ugh. What a joke. Move on!

Sit glenn and stop pretending this team actually has a chance of making it out of the west. It took me all of about two series to see tha Marquese Williams has the best shot at becmoing the next one. So lets get on with it and see.

The minute Durant was released with no real plan to replace him was the minute this season ceased to be about actually competing.

I too want to see Williams. But only when he's ready. It would probably do more harm than good to start him now. However, later on in this wasted season I say sit Glenn and give the ball to Williams.
Of course our OC would demand he to do the exact thing Glenn does because he's incapable of altering his schemes.

^ yet here you are commenting? LOL. Leave Rider Nation then, we don't need pessimistic people like you.

I'm commenting because I care. I'm sorry if I'm not blind enough to suit you.

Wow. You seem like a really fun guy anonymous! You're not a Riders fan in my book. Grab another six pack and go mull around broad street

At the very beginning I wanted Young to do well and have a great come back story. I think I'm with the majority in saying he had his chance and it didn't pan out. Not because of injury. Simply because he is not good enough.
I think Jones owes it to Young to say he still has an opportunity. I don't think the Young camp wants to swallow the fact that he was not good enough to make the CFL. For what ever reason Young still seems relevant in the U.S. at this time. Being cut from the CFL might take away his stardom.

The whole charade is a joke that isn't funny.

Jones owes Vince Young nothing. He owes it to fans to find a dam quarterback and that is not Young. Williams may be the future but probably is not ready this year. No point in pushing him in too soon and ruining him like we have seen before. And telling anyone that they are not a "real fan" because they do not like Jones and McAdoo is ridiculous. You have "real fan" confused with a nonthinking unknowledgable follower. No wonder there is talk of a rebuild taking four years. That is unacceptable when you consider that the average CFL career is less than four years. And waiting for Franklin is counterproductive when there is no guarantee of him coming here, and less likely when you have a coach who is constantly shooting off his mouth and making enemies around this small league.

A very valid point on how Vince Young's stardom would be seriously effected in the US of A if Americans sports stories started printing that Young was incapable of making a lonely CFL teams roster. How dreadful that would be.

I don't agree with the comment he's not good enough. You saw him in a practice game after he hasn't played in 3 years. Wade Phillips thought Rob Johnson looked better in practice that's why he chose him over Doug Flutie. Bryan Bennett looked good in practice too. Practice does not match when the live bullets fly. Looking forward to when VY returns. He adds excitement.

I actually dont live that far from broad st. Here's how much of a fan I am - I despise Jones and his approach to running tgis team - yet I still follow it, go to the games and want to see the team be better in the long run.

Thats why Kevin Glenn is a waste of time - he represents Jones attempt at salvaging a decent record in year 2, after releasing the team's on field leader - to keep the heat off. Glenn represents the QB carousel continuing longer than it needs to.

The VY experiment ended in the most predictable fashion possible. The idea that he'd actually make it out of main camp was wishful thinking at best. Another side show attraction brought to you by Chris Jones.

You are supposed to blindly support Chris Jones or someone will decree that you are not a 'real fan'.

Sure, bring Young back and take reps away from Bridge and Williams. That would make sense.
