10 THINGS I THINK I THINK FOR AUTO EXTREME REGINA

10 Things I Think I Think for Auto Extreme Regina:

1 - How do you spell "Relief"? W-I-N. Saskatchewan's 38-27 triumph over Toronto at a sold out Mosaic Stadium on Saturday elicited more sighs of relief than jubilation or celebrations. The team is 2-3, they're still 5th place in the CFL West, but that was the Roughriders team we've been promised. Welcome to "Up Week".

2 - Duron Carter's backhanded, onehanded touchdown catch against the Argos will be replayed for years. I believe it's the best catch I've ever seen, and that includes Odell Beckham Jr.'s onehanded TD stab for the NY Giants a few years ago which everyone says is #1. On Saturday Duron showed why the Riders signed him, and continue to tolerate his high maintenance, gregarious ways.

3 - A Twitter troll wrote that he sees catches like Carter's all the time in the NFL. No you don't, so stop hating. With NFL training camps now underway, you're going to hear a lot of the "NFL vs CFL" argument in this country. The truth is, if you try to make this silly argument, then you're simply not a football fan.

4 - Corey Chamblin may not have been victorious in his return to Riderville but his heart was full. Several Rider staff rushed out to see him when he showed up for media interviews on Friday at Mosaic Stadium. Whether Corey Chamblin is a Head Coach again in the CFL is a matter of "When", not "If". The stress might've gotten to him here, but he'll be ready for it next time.

5 - Argos Head Coach Marc Trestman wore a cap that said "Life Is Good" when he met with reporters before the game. Marc has a career as a Life Coach waiting for him when he's done with football. Read his book PERSEVERANCE. It's simply amazing what happens when you tell the world - and yourself - that "Life Is Good" rather than "Life's a struggle".

6 - You know you're getting old when a haircut includes your ears, eyebrows and nose.

7 - The Challenge Football League? I prefer to look at the positives of this CFL season and the wildly entertaining games rather than the annoying coaches' challenges. If there truly is a problem with officiating and the video review mechanism, then I expect Commissioner Randy Ambrosie to pound his fist on the table and fix it once and for all. He seems like a "Take Charge" kind of guy.

8 - It says here that it can't help things when the TSN announcers are berating or questioning officials' calls and review verdicts on a weekly basis. That occurs on the panel, and in the broadcast booth. The TV ratings aren't spectacular this season despite the fact the games have been out-of-this-world. The TV announcers need to lend a hand in selling the product.

9 - The Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Oh, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. They were shellacked 60-1 on Saturday in Calgary and Head Coach & GM Kent Austin was pacing the sidelines like a caged tiger. They are 0-5 this season and 4-15 in their past 19 games. What happens next in Tiger Town?

10 - The Roughriders can boast five straight sellouts and Mosaic Stadium has become a tourist destination. Many fans have written and asked what they should take in on trips to Regina. I'd suggest visiting the Fan Wall, statue, Confederation Park, a trip to the 5,000 square foot Rider Store and maybe even swing by Taylor Field which is just a few blocks away. In the fall, new stadium tours will be offered.

Riderville is the place to be again! I love it.

Totally agree with point 3, the haters will be out in full force over the next few weeks. They lead a sad life because if it's not American it's not worth watching. I was thoroughly entertained Saturday, a great game played by talented athletes.

Football is good. NFL, CFL,Arena League, Lingerie League, WCFL, NCAA, CIS high school, minor football, back yard with your buddies, madden on Xbox. It doesn't matter what league or what country. The beauty of the game is what is important and what a beauty we had on Saturday.

One of the things I enjoyed while in Phoenix was a guided tour of the University of Phoenix Stadium where the NFL Cardinals play. Cost me $7.00 for the hour tour. We toured the luxury boxes and even the visitors locker room. The Cardinals was not available.
Got me thinking why doesn't Mosaic Stadium offer a similar tour maybe on a Saturday or Sunday when the Riders are away. BTW the Cardinal's gift shop was the last stop on the tour. Well Why Not???

Nice win, although if Sears touches down it could easily have been a loss. At least it was exciting. Carter more raw talent than anyone at his position, although Bowman is close. The next game will be another measuring stick. Don't think BC's oline is as good as the Argos so they have a chance.

Ambrosie has stated this past weekend that he's also fed up with the challenges and is going to look into it. Change may not happen mid-season but it's a great feeling that we have a Commish who is finally going to do something about it. Seems that Orridge was unwilling to stand up to the goofs who continue to think it's the greatest thing since the foreward pass.

Anyone see the shout out to sask by the Rock on ballers?..something like Saskatchewan effin blows...pretty funny..I think we can thank V.Y for the exposure on that one.

Anonymous said...

From what I can tell, Duron Carter has been anything but high maintenance or gregarious. What a misdirected statement.

5 straight sell outs yet the Eskimos still lead the league in attendance. Pretty clear that the Eskimos are Canada's team!

CJ Evans said...

Sask was mentioned in Season 1 of Ballers. They were aware already... likely cause The Rock had a short stint in Calgary in the late 90's.

Anonymous said...

No it's not clear actually. Rider fans represented everywhere at all stadiums, North and South of the border, tourist spots, Mexico, Vegas, you name it.

Canada's Team yes!

Ya and they are at 60% capacity only. The riders are at 100% and could sell more if they had more.Nice try troll.

Yuh, do you know what gregarious means?

Living with head in the clouds is for the people "life is good" - it is good, but life is not fair and Scott Peck's development book The Road Less Travelled starts, "Life is hard" - if you know life is not fair and it's hard then you take personal responsibility to ensure you can make the adjustments along the way.

Wrong Anon.... 1st game in Montreal Carter was having a melt down on the sidelines. At which point he had to be brought back to reality by the Coach.
The game in Calgary saw Carter cross centre field and get in the face of the Stampeders Safety.
Those are 2 instances that we know of. He is a very talented athlete. Maybe even the best receiver in the league but he needs professional help. I'm repeating myself but the Tiders should hire a Public Relathions Coach for him. He would learn a lot and it would help him so much.

But then he goes and not only gives his spectacular catch football to a young cancer survivor, he also signed autographs for them afterwards. Duron is a good guy, he just makes some mistakes. We all do. The Riders seem to be patient with listening to him and being understanding which is great.

A few years ago, we toured the Packers remodelled Lambeau in GB. A fantastic facility. And yes the tour's end took you to the Packer Store.
Also Packer Hall of Fame. Tour conducted by Packer fan volunteer's.
So when they have guided Tours of Mosaic, why not do it the same way??

Keep in mind too Duron has also openly discussed his problems with depression. It's not something to joke about or take lightly. Jones seems like the kind of guy who cares about these things and willing to help him out with it.

I watched the CBC highlights of the Riders game. Is it just me or did Rob Bagg seem pissed off when Carter wasn't celebrating with his teammates? It's pretty subtle but I swear I saw Bagg like waive off Carter and start walking away when Carter was only celebrating to the crowd. Anyone else catch that?

Anonymous said...

Pederson if that is the greatest catch you have ever seen, wow the bar is set pretty low. it was a nice catch but best ever. maybe in sasky, maybe in the Crap Football League. but he didn't even pull it in with one hand, hit it with his hand and then pulled it in. get over yourself and your sh*t team rod

Roughly statistically speaking:
EDM POPULATION 928,000
ESKIMO ATTENDANCE ON AVG 33,641
3.5% OF POPULATION GO TO GAMES....STADIUM CAPACITY 60,081...STILL ROOM FOR LOTS OF PATRONS...WHERE ARE THEY? THEIR TEAM IS 5-0 AND A TICKET TO THE DOG SHOW IS MORE POPULAR.

REGINA POPULATION 216,000
RIDER ATTENDANCE ON AVG 33,250...SOLD OUT AGAIN
15.5% OF POPUALTION GO TO GAMES, AND COULD SELL ANOTHER 10,000 SEATS IF THERE WAS ROOM.

CASE CLOSED!

Nice synopsis on the comparison of Esks to Riders attendance. But the real culprits in this league lacking are Toronto, Montreal, BC and Calgary. They should be ashamed of themselves. Ottawa, Edmonton, Sask, Winnipeg and Hamilton are the best for attendance the past couple years.

Dboe said...

I am pretty sure Tillman is the GM of the Tiger Cats...although assumedly not for long. CIS level team they have built over there.

Lee said...

So are u saying the entire attendance at a rider game is only from Regina...

Anonymous said...

TO THE GUY IN CAPITALS;

You Regina people that think you own the Roughriders piss me off. Didn't you read about the girl that got the ball from Carter, they're season ticket holders and drive in from Sturgis for each game. Many others around the province drive for hours to get to games so get over yourself.

Anonymous said...

Hey smart guy quit reading the first number you see on google for the attendance at commonwealth stadium...the number you have of 60,081 is the max capacity of the building...this is not the attendance number for ticket sales...the ticket sales max crowd sold is 56,302 just so you can redo your averages for what it matters because no one actually cares what you think but I see your pretty up tight about it with all those capital letters. Here is some big capital letters for stats that matter...EDMONTON ESKIMOS 14 GREY CUPS - SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS 4...enough said. Don't bother bringing up you bought them either because every team had the same chance to pay there players...you failed or couldn't manage...boo hoo.

CASE OPEN!

Edmonton population 928,000
Eskimo attendance on avg 33,641

Saskatchewan population 1,161365
Rider attendance avg 33,250

ps.
The Regina Roughriders do not exist anymore.

There was a good long shot of the Flyin' Hawaiian IN DC's ear on the sidelines. My guess is that CO was coaching Carter up on how he carries himself. We saw less mugging the camera from Duron this last game.

Great post anon!! It's funny to see these Eskimo clowns have nothing better to do than come onto our site and ridicule us about attendance!! Really!! It's sad when a city that size has to tarp off half of the sections in the stadium to give an illusion that it's fuller than it really is. When you so called "fans" start packing 50,000 then maybe you can chirp. But we know that will never ever ever happen. Lol.

Rider fans Don't get upset about the comments of the size of Regina and Regina fans attending the games. It was a retorical comment made towards an EE fan. No one in Regina thinks the stadium is full of Regina fans. Statistically speaking 1/3rd of the stadium is usually fans from the Province. We all know it's the Saskatchewan Roughriders and that is what makes our fan base so awesome. The fans come from all over and all walks of life. It's the only single thing in the Province that brings us all together. No matter what Gender, Race, religion or sexual preference. The powerful [=S=] has become a Province wide symbol of togetherness. No matter what our record or financial situation. We have always backed the team and we all own it.
All the EE symbol stands for is Evil Empire. Green and Gold both colours of financial gain. An Orginization brought up by the Good Old Boys. Stoked with Cash until the Salary Cap. A franchise That purchased 13 Grey Cups before they actually won one fair and square.

Just out of curiosity, it seems Esks fans only hang out at Rider sites.

While I get it's a free society, is there not any Eskimo sites they can go to?

While a good debate is always fun, it just seems like with these guys that they can't stay on the topic at hand and make good arguments.

They keep referring to the past all the time. Like the past has anything to do with the present.

The present is the Riders are à young rebuilding team that's improving weekly. This isn't about the Eskimos and their record as we don't care. We see the standings, we aren't stupid.

We like to read Rods take and comment about things as we see fit. Our opinions differ lots but that's part of the good debate. No need to bash.

Anybody want a recipe for high attendance on your website. It's really not that hard. As long as you can stomach it... They will come.
Have a comment section that allows everybody and anybody. Allow the comments to disrespect each other at the highest level possible.
Have simple but well written articles that are subjective and really don't add up to much. But somehow create issues between inner Provincial teams and City's. Combined with comments from fellow Canadians who want to take a cowardly stab at the local sports team the web site is about. Or even the place you reside. Ven though they have never been there or really have no idea. Because they feel superior to you in every way. When in fact for every positive they think they experience over you or your area of residence. There is easily a matching negative.
Make sure there are plenty of keyboard warriors who come to visit the site and always hit and run anonymously. As they are the lowest of lows on the Internet. Their actions have coined the word Trolls. The fact is that Snake bellies ride higher than these trolling dudes. Most of the time they are hiding in their Mamas basement. Stocked up on Jergins lotion for their game council controller hand continuously motioning in the same direction. They write more about who they despise or can't stand. They will always get a wide response to their idiotic comments. They bring back the loyal defenders of the team and area. As long as there are Trolls there will be reactions. Which in turn gives the site high traffic flow.
A very smart way to keep them all coming back for more.

To be fair there is A LOT more competition for entertainment dollars in Edmonton then Regina/Saskatchewan so you have to take that into account

to 3rd and 1 yes most people in REGINA think its only regina people at the game

Yawn ... You might be a troll if your anonymous name is 3RD and 1 with 3 posts to this site already and counting.

this site used to be the wild west in terms of trolls and heels. It got to the point I am sure it could have turned physical if these people met up. I won't mention the names but there was on troll on here that could get people so rabid they'd climb over themselves to punch that guy in the face. Those guys are all gone now.

3RD and 1 said...

Hey Jiff are you new to the neighbourhood or what? 3RD and 1 is every bit of a name as Jiff if! Click on the Gopher to educate yourself. As a huge Rider fan, I'm writing on a Blog about the Riders! I've been posting on Rod Pedersen for a number of years. Just an FYI... as your brain dosent seem to understand what a troll is. It's actually short for trolling. Get that? That is trolling sites that are not relivent to you. Looking to drop rude and insulting comments where ever possible. Like the EE fan that's on here. You calling a Rider fan a troll for commenting on a Rider Blog shows just how dumb you can be.

Anonymous said...

Wow...if you hate the CFL...Rod and his writing so much why do you waste your time reading and commenting on it why not just go f-off and stop trolling. Jackass

They won every cup fair and square, everyone had a chance to pay for players but some were too dumb to do it.

I get a kick out of how the Schmo fans come on here to beak Rider fans. I mean, their 5-0 and they are still jealous of what we got going on here at 2-3.
It warms the cockuls of my heart to know that it must drive them crazy that we have the best stadium in the league, and they have....well, Commonwealth. An old archaic dump.

"14 cups is in the past. Tell me about recent history and not ancient history!"

Uhm.. Eskimos' last cup win is more recent than the Riders'. Though I guess the Riders have been undefeated in the playoffs in the past two seasons, if that makes you feel any better.
