YOUNG INJURES HAMSTRING ON DAY 10

SASKATOON - Roughriders quarterback Vince Young left the field at Griffiths Stadium in Saskatoon Tuesday morning with a lower body injury. The injury occurred after Young took off with the football during a play in the skeleton period. He went down on the sidelines afterwards, then headed into the facility without assistance.

"It looked like a hamstring. We'll find out more this afternoon," Riders Head Coach & GM Chris Jones said after the workout. "Anytime you have a quarterback, and you're trying to evaluate quarterbacks, and you get one hurt, it's never a positive."

When asked if this affects Young's status for Saturday's home preseason game against Winnipeg, Jones responded, "We'll see".

On another note, quarterback Jake Heaps was released by the Seattle Seahawks on Monday. Heaps participated in the Roughriders' Florida minicamp in April, however he signed with Seattle just a few days later.

Jones revealed that John Murphy and Jeremy O'Day have both been in contact with Heaps' representatives in the past 24 hours but couldn't say if he'll make his way to Saskatoon.

In order to add Heaps, the Roughriders will have release a player - at any position - and they're not necessarily prepared to do that before Saturday's game.

We'll have more on the SportsCage this afternoon at 4:00 pm from Saskatoon

Ugh. Hope to see him make thru the preseason. Is Saturday's game broadcast?

Who was the genius who asked the "if this affects Young's status for Saturday's home preseason game"?

Can't remember!

Karma for all the fans mocking Durant's injury!

Rod you should Facebook Live the entire game. Screw TSN. If they can't get their act together as the "proud exclusive broadcaster" and televise all pre-season games then they deserve to get scooped. Plus they continue to use the awful Rod Black on pbp. You should be the Rod that's in there!

I think I remember in 2015, Riderville streamed a home preseason game live on their website for free. I remember Luc did the colour. But I can't remember who did the play-by-play. I know it wasn't you Rod.

Hypothetically, could TSN doesn't broadcast both Rider preseason games and would it be a good idea? I understand that would be a bit unfair to fans of the other CFL teams. But lets face reality, most CFL fans are Rider fans. Why not cater to the largest audience. Plus, say Vince Young gets on the field, that'll certainly bring some audience from the U.S.

Don't get your shorts in a knot people, Vince Young good to go! Just a little leg cramp, nothing a good sip of Gatorade can't fix.

No reason why the Riders shouldn't broadcast this on their website. They have the in house production for this brand new huge video/scoreboard. And with the game being almost sold out, why not show off this nice new stadium to the rest of the world on their website. TSN was given the option to show the game and passed, so it should the Riders option now to show off their new pride and joy and allow fans worldwide to see this team and its new palace. And CKRM can provide play by play.

Sure hope Jones does the right thing with the qbs and doesn't give VY as free pass. The guy is 4th on the depth chart only ahead of the new guy Williams. That would mean, if Jones does the right thing, that VY would then be on the practise roster then what do you do with Williams. Never mind what happens then if Heap joins the team. All and all, to me and likely most other fans, it means VY should be cut loose as he has no upside in relation to Williams or Heap. It was a good try to see if Vinny has it but it looks like he doesn't so move on. Come on Jones, do the right thing and cut him loose. But if he can get some reps in the preseason game and does great then maybe he will advance ahead of Bennett and the Canadian guy. If he doesn't play well then, can't wait around for him, cut him loose.

Vince all the way.... sick of the media saying he's fourth.

He's 2nd, he's prepping and practicing. While these other guys say a prayer hoping it's a completion.

The kids are at a peak now and Vince is climbing!!!!

The pre-season games could have been a golden opportunity to stream some games for free on YouTube, Twitter or whichever. Nope, the "don't worry, be happy" crowd that runs CFL and TSN's partnership are bound and determined to only keep games on that network. Screw everyone else and screw growth potential. I sincerely hope the new Commish comes in and completely cleans house for their archaic way of thinking. They want to heavily promote the league on social media but if the actual games aren't accessible to all then what the hell is the point? It's like you say in your seminars Rod, social media can help to get people in the door but it's still up to you to close the sale. And lately the CFL and TSN have been screwing that up royally.

And before Arash smugly denounces this on your show next time, you can remind him that he hasn't done squat to help promote the league either. Always reminds people of the negatives, never positive.

Are you guys all Nuts about this being televised ? This isn't Toronto Maple Leafs you know !

You know I have no problem with rider fans except when they try and boast they are the best and figure they deserve better treatment over the league because of it...let me give you some knowledge people, this league doesn't exist with just the riders...it involves all teams and fans and needs fan support all through are teams, don't get me wrong because I support and love my team but the only way a league is healthy is by support throughout our great Canadian game so quit being selfish asses to other teams fans.

Oh My Goodness ! Another Blum Bloomer Fan from The Peg Speaks Out ! ha ha .

Not a Peg fan bud, your kind of like Jones...takes a guess but wrong as usual. Truth is the truth, you rider fans are so wrapped up in yourselves that you don't care about the health and stability of the league as a whole...I am no fan of the Argos or Montreal but really hope they can turn things around. A healthy league means a competitive and exciting game to watch.

lol about the Williams and Heap have upside over VY. Williams and Heap have NENVER DONE anything in pro football. Same with Bennett and Bridge. Having youth doesn't mean your any good. Look at Osweiler he had 'upside' compared to Peyton and he turned out to be a dud.

Willy said...

Not A Peg Fan...... Go Riders Go ! # 1 CFL organization in all of Canada so why the hell shouldn't we brag about who we are . We got ourselves where we are, not the rest of the teams. We are who we are and we are damn proud because it is us that got us here not you ( OBVIOUSLY) or the rest of the League.

34 year old QB, in shape but not "football shape", intense TC, hamstring would be a big risk for sure. Can't really 6 game him as he won't be able to practice and he must have the reps to have any chance. Hamstring will nag all season. Chances for success for Vince are not real good.
