The Saskatchewan Roughrider Plaza of Honour Committee has announced two new members will be inducted into the Plaza of Honour as the class of 2017. This year, Wes Cates and Roger Brandvold will have their names forever etched into Saskatchewan Roughriders history.

The Plaza of Honour presented by SaskTel has inducted 125 individuals who have made major contributions to the proud tradition of the Saskatchewan Roughrider Football Club. The club has also inducted the 1966, 1989 and 2007 Grey Cup championship teams.

The Roughriders along with the Plaza of Honour Committee are also excited to announce a new cairn recognizing the Plaza of Honour inductees will be erected outside the southeast gate, adjacent to Elphinstone Street, at the new Mosaic Stadium.

The SaskTel Plaza of Honour is known as one of Saskatchewan’s most prestigious sports receptions and has contributed over $6 million to the Saskatchewan Roughrider Football Club.

This year’s event is set for Friday, September 22nd at Mosaic Stadium. The refreshed new-look cocktail-style reception will include a tiered ticketing option for access to one of three locations – AGT Lounge, Harvard Studio 620, or stadium bowl seating.

For information on tickets or corporate tables, contact the Saskatchewan Roughrider Ticket Office at 525-2181 or 1-888-474-3377 or any committee member.

Good choices! Glad to see Cates go in. Was very difficult explaining to a group of fair weather fans that what Cates did on the field from a blocking perspective was every bit as important as his running skills.

So many games won in the air because Cates kept the D of of Doubles' back. All they saw was the handoff, yard and half to two yard gain when the D was double teaming him and saying how horrible he was.

I was always thought of Wes Cates after he retired as a Rider every time I entered the west side of old Mosaic Stadium under the big old "West Gates" sign. An excellent selection by the Cttee!

Just wondering why it took so long for him to get in to the Plaza but great choice tho

Congratulations to Wes. He was a great Rider, great with the fans too!

I don't know why we keep calling this a prestigious honour to be inducted. Name another hall of fame that requires you attend the induction or else they will rescind the induction? This is not an award based on merit (if it was it wouldn't matter if you showed up for dinner, you were good enough to be in the hall of fame) This is an agreement to be part of a fundraiser and to help sell expensive tickets (many of the tickets paid for by the public through crown corporations and various politicians expense funds)

Oh look I found someone who just needs to complain about something to feel valued.

I was there when they put Rhett Dawson in you tell me if his reaction and how he carried himself if he didn't think this was prestigious. I also was at the one where Bobby Jurasin was put in and there was never a more humble guy for going in. Roy Shivers eventually needs to get in here along with Eric Tillman.

I'm glad Wes is going in. I've got two jerseys and they're #34 and #20. They were bought before the Jones era, and there will be no more bought until he's gone.

Second best to George Reed. Sounds okay to me. Congratulations Wes.

Good for Brandvold! He has done a lot for the Riders from the non playing side.
