RIDERS RELEASE GREG JONES

The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced Friday morning they've released linebacker Greg Jones.

The 28-year old appeared in 16 games with the Riders last season and registered 70 defensive tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles, and eight special teams tackles.

The Michigan State product lost his starting role when the club signed Canadian middle linebacker Henoc Muamba in late-September.

Jones has spent three years in the CFL, the first two with the Toronto Argonauts.  He also owns a Super Bowl ring from the 2011 New York Giants.

Was excellent last year, most reliable tackler on the defense. This is surprising.

this is a big loss for the team as jones i thought was very solid

He'll get picked up by some other team, he certainly wasn't the Achilles heel in the worst defense in the entire league.

No room for 2 MLB's & Jones not a good fit as WILL or SAM. Should land a spot elsewhere - good player. So of all the FA signings in 2016 off the FA lists only Gainey remains. So much for Jones recruitment talents. Basically starting over again. I see 12 new starters of 24 on offence/ defence. This year looking a lot like last year.

I don't even know this guy, never saw him interviewed on the news or anything.

Come on! (Who is he) Greg was a stud Midfle Linebacker in Toronto and Jones signed him as a free agent. At that time Greg Jones had interest from several teams. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't end up on another CFL team real soon.
Thanks for your time here Greg. You always played hard and fast. Best of luck where ever you go.

Nice try taking shots at Chris Jones, but actually the coach is all class.

Greg asked to be released for family reasons. Refer to his Twitter.
