VIGR RECAP: PATS 5 HITMEN 2 (REGINA UP 1-0)

Keith Hershmiller Photography
REGINA - The Regina Pats weathered an early storm from the tenacious Calgary Hitmen and emerged with a 5-2 victory before a soldout Brandt Centre Friday in Game 1 of their WHL Eastern Conference Quarterfinal.

The Hitmen accomplished a goal of keeping it scoreless through the opening period despite being outshot 9-2.  They then opened the scoring at 10:50 of the second when Jake Kryski struck on the powerplay.

Pats fans could be forgiven if they were getting nervous, since their club rarely trailed at that point in a home game all season long.

However Regina's Josh Mahura tied it up on the powerplay at 16:28 and it was 1-1 after 40 minutes.

Pats captain Adam Brooks then led a takeover in third, netting back-to-back even strength goals 2:22 apart early in the frame for a 3-1 lead.

Calgary's Kryski potted his second of the game at 9:04 to make it a one-goal affair again, however late goals by the Pats' Bryan Lockner and Austin Wagner (shorthanded) put the game away.

GAME OVER: Pats 5 Hitmen 2

Brooks was named the game's first star after racking up a 4-point night (2-2-4).

Regina outshot Calgary 32-22 while going 1/2 on the powerplay and 2/3 killing penalties.

Regina will look to go up 2-0 when they host the Hitmen Saturday at 7:00 pm on 620 CKRM and Access/Shaw.

More than the Pats strong win , I enjoyed MJ getting shutout at home to Papirny's Broncos!

That was a great game and great atmoshpere at the Dome tonight. Hitmen kept it close but really thought Pats had control and outplayed them the entire game. Not a lot of shots for either team the 1st 2 periods but a lot directed towards the net by the Pats just didn't make it through.
Mr Brooks has been a leader all year and stepped up to night again...Oh does he want his last year to be one to remember! Hopefully they can keep it going tomorrow and continue in Calgary next week.
A bit of a surprise in MJ tonight. Warriors are too good a Team so I'm thinking Broncos will be hard pressed to win another in that series....just sayin'
Go Pats Go!

Yes there is a way but not much of a secret if you have windows or an android based smartphone Google should be able to help you but it's definitely nothing like being there!!

First 15 minutes were a little shaky, but the boys came to play in the 3rd period.

I would expect the Pats team we are used to will come out of the gate tonight with the final being about the same thing.

Tremendous atmosphere at the Brandt Center. Total team effort with the 3rd line really impressing tonight.
whl.ca to watch games on line, money well spent for a very entertaining product.

The atmosphere was a bit stale because didn't score for quite a while. Once the third started the place started rocking and rolling. Hopefully Hobbs and Harrison are better tonight. This is going to be a tough series so the Pats had better get some presence in front of the net. If they do that they will be golden.

50/50 prize was over $90,000 last night! What was the Rush 50/50 total? I guarantee you not even close to Regina. Go Pats Go

All the games are sold out, so the rest of Regina are going to have to watch on TV

RUSH 50/50 last nite $105.000

That's insanely impressive! The 50/50 prize at most oilers home games doesn't usually exceed $70k... and they have like 19,000 plus fans in that building! Regina is truly the king of sports in Canada!

Pats started out a bit slow but considering the playoff jitters and being off for almost a week, it wasn't surprising. By the 3rd, they were back on track and I expect they will pick up tonight right where they left off last night. Looking forward to getting back to the Brandt in a few hours. GO PATS GO!

the rush only sell out now because they are winning ,but once they start losing like the lowly blades they will average 2000 fans just like the LOWLY blades book it!
