CORVEY IRVIN SAYS SO LONG TO RIDERVILLE

WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers announced on Monday the club has signed International defensive tackle Corvey Irvin.

Irvin (6-2, 295, Georgia, May 3, 1985 in Augusta, GA) spent last season with Saskatchewan, where the Georgia Bulldogs product started all 18 games, recording 27 defensive tackles and five sacks. Irvin came into the league in 2015 with Montreal, playing in 13 games and registering 11 defensive tackles, three sacks and one forced fumble.

He spent parts of five seasons in the NFL after originally being selected by the Carolina Panthers in the third round (29th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft. Irvin played 24 games during that span, spending time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions.

After the signing of Canadian Defensive Tackle Eddie Steel who had just been cut from the EE due to cap space problems. Probably made Corvey Irvin expendable. Too bad because I liked this guy. However if your going to rotate. You need 2 Canadians rotating. You get caught and fined if you do other wise. We don't need 2016 2.0 all over again. Just ask Jonesy.

I always wondered who keeps track of all those import/non-import ratios with all the rotations going on during the course of a game. Is there an on-field official actually responsible for this?

Actually during the game itself. you can get away with rotating an import with a non import.
The game itself is usually screened a week or 2 later. That's when you get fined and embarrassed in the media.
The person or ref doing the screening has to be diligent as the team might be putting in an American D.T. For a Canadian but at the same time be putting in a Canadian DB and pulling an American DB.
The easiest way is to have 2 Canadians rotating in the same position. As injuries and players not paying attention can cost the team in fines when the game is screened later. Calgary has been super successful rotating 2 Canadians in the RB position for years now.

The writing on the wall? Expendable?

He was a free agent! If the Riders wanted him back don't you think they would have re-signed him a month or more ago?

Over analyze much?

Hey Mr analyze much. You don't think that maybe Irvin wanted too much money for Chris Jones. Plus if you don't think that signing a Canadian at the same position ended any idea of the guy possibly coming back. Then you obviously don't look at the whole picture. He started all 18 games last year.
Talk about an Anal comment from some weed that doesn't have the Kohonas to put his name on it.
