PATS 7 OIL KINGS 1

REGINA - Two lengthy streaks continued Saturday night as the Regina Pats dumped the Edmonton Oil Kings 7-1 before another sellout crowd in the Brandt Centre.

It was the Pats' eighth consecutive win while the rebuilding Oil Kings suffered their 14th straight defeat.

Before a crowd of 6484 on Brandt's Hockey Night In Regina - and thousands more watching on TV throughout Western Canada - the Pats jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a powerplay goal by Josh Mahura before the game was two minutes old. Wyatt Sloboshan scored at even strength at 6:40 to give Regina a 2-0 lead after 20.

Oil Kings leading scorer Davis Koch cut Regina's lead in half with a powerplay goal at 4:51 of the second but the Pats struck back with tallies by the lethal tandem of Sam Steel and Adam Brooks for a 4-1 lead after two periods.

Regina continued to pour it on the third with goals from Braydon Buziak, Nick Henry and another from Sloboshan to cap a 7-1 rout.

Regina outshot Edmonton 35-18 while going 3/4 on the powerplay and 4/5 killing penalties.

Jordan Hollett got the win in the Pats goal while Patrick Dea took the loss.

The Pats (37-6-7) return to action Wednesday in Calgary at 8:00 pm Sask Time on 620 CKRM. Their next home game is on Valentine's Day when the Everett Silvertips come to town.

It's tough to watch a Team struggle through tough times like Oil Kings are doing now but they still played with grit, and had their success couple of years ago. I know the feeling. WHL teams cycle and we are in top gear right now so have to enjoy the excitement and talent we have the privelege to watch this year and next.
"Buzz saw" Lockner is fun to watch, and gives 110% every shift. A career night last night and deserved 1st Star. Also young Pierce is going to be a keeper. Works hard and opposition need to keep head up as he is always looking to take the body, without taking himself out of the play. Smart guy.
Although not tested that many times Hollett was sharp. Although I've seen in the past having few shots takes you out of the game so can look bad on somewhat easy scoring chances, so far as looks like he has managed to do what it takes to keep mind in the game.
"Newby" Mahura getting better every game. Last night's end to end rush shows his speed which haven't seen many times. Solid defensive guy too.
Last few games Pats have kept opposition shots down quite a bit in comparison to earlier in the year so has JP got them thnking more defense or is it the change in personnel on the back end? Sergey staying at home a bit more, and Dawson Davidson showing spurts of offensive talent now so again a good pickup for down the road.
Can't wait for the Memorial Cup announcement. Come on CHL!!!

Anon #1 your post belongs in a different article. Are you that desperate to get Saskatoons name on this web page that you have to write comments that have absolutely nothing to do with this article. About a game that 95% of the rest of the Province couldn't care less about.
Most would rather hear about the Stoon Blades or the Stoon Hilltops over a lacrosse team.
When North America gets an NLL or even a CLL league and the sport gets prime time on television. Talk to us then. Since that's never going to happen. You Saskatoonites have fun with your lacrosse team.
I know, now we will hear about the 15000 people attending games. Representing about .013% of the Province. As there is no TV following

Canada's team LOL. You should be on the comedy network as a standup comic

Appears Rod won't put comments on here for Saskatoon Rush and against his beloved Pats. Pats are not Canada's team and no-one outside Regina cares about the Pats

And about those Riders and their GM .......

Good on the Pats for having Mike Maguire do PA instead of that windbag Scruffy!

John Knight is right for a change - the Pats are not "Canada's team", they are instead "Canada's Best Junior Hockey Team".

Josh Mahura is a great skater and it was nice to see it on display last night. Bryan Lockner and Wyatt Sloboshan played great too. It was also nice to see a 16 year old Duncan Pierce not afraid to throw his weight around. He's been doing that since he joined the team and he definitely has a future in the WHL. Of course, it was all against a rebuilding team, but it's great for development and shows that these players deserve more opportunities moving forward.

Does anyone know when the extra seats will be installed @ the Brandt Center?

Does anyone know when the CHL is going to announce the winning bid for next years Memorial Cup?

Hopefully the patsies don't get the MC, no way they deserve it.

Hey Anon,

Feel free to tell us all (or any) of the reasons that Oshawa or Hamilton deserve to host the Memorial Cup over Regina, since you feel so emphatically that QCSEG doesn't deserve it...

Why is that?

Hey Patsie Anon.....go troll on someone else's board and quit being jealous of how great the Pats are doing this year!

GO Pats!
