OWENS SPEAKS ON BEING A ROUGHRIDER

Newly-signed returner/receiver Chad Owens spoke eloquently to Regina reporters via a conference call on Wednesday regarding signing a free agent deal with the Green & White:

CO: It's pretty simple.  In this business it's about who wants you, good opportunities, and at the end of the day, that's what it is.  I have a family to take care of and it's the same situation I was in last year with Toronto.  When you don't get an offer, as much as your heart's in a place, for me, I had made my mind up and saw my future as retiring an Argonaut.  I was 100% sure that was going to happen but they had other plans.

I did what I had to do last year by ending up in Hamilton.  Honestly I thought I was going to be there again this year but it is what it is.  If there's a place I want to play football and finish my career, it's in Saskatchewan.

I've heard nothing but amazing things.  I already know what Saskatchewan's all about, the green wave, and the support there is unmatched.  I'm really looking forward to everything.  New facility, new beginning, it's a new era in Riderville and for me to be a part of it, I'm honestly extremely excited.

Let's get it going!

Hypocrites, hypocrites, hypocrites...you say Dressler, Chick, and Durant to injured or on the down side of there career, go take a look at Owens stats...hasn't played over 13 games in the past five years I believe and has not had a thousand yard season in the past 4 or 5 years...and you cheer he is a rider.

The above comment is true...take a look at Owens stats, hope he didn't cost a bunch.

Stoooooopid comments. Owens is a heckuva lot cheaper than the vets we had signed at a premium. And will be as good. Had to let those guys go. Its a new era, deal with it~

He cost plenty for a returner. 110k a year plus bonuses. Also a substantial signing bonus. That is more than Hamilton paid him last year. So sorry to disappoint you but if he doesn't turn out, the Riders are out the signing bonus. Pretty good money for an old recycled returner. Every coach here for the last twenty years has been criticized for bringing in old retreads. Why is Jones a hero for doing the same thing? In all those camps in the states, he can't find a young cheap returner that might actually contribute to the team for more than a year or two? I will wait and see whether these FA help any more than last year's did. We all know how that worked out; much publicity with very little returns.

He also won't be costing us $225,000 a year genius. Probably see most action as a returner.
