DREW TATE TO THE REDBLACKS

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Redblacks have acquired veteran quarterback Drew Tate from the Calgary Stampeders a 2018 fifth-round draft pick.

The move comes after Calgary signed veteran quarterback Mitchell Gale on Wednesday.

Tate, 32, spent the first eight years of his CFL career with Calgary. The six-foot, 190-pound Tate completed 380-of-572 passes (66.4 per cent) for 4,670 yards with 32 TDs and 15 interceptions.

Tate is expected to be the backup in Ottawa to starter Trevor Harris. Harris shared starting duties last season with veteran Henry Burris, who retired in the off-season after leading the Redblacks to an upset 39-33 Grey Cup win over Calgary.

Tate helped Calgary beat Hamilton 20-16 to win the 2014 Grey Cup, rushing for two touchdowns.

Stamps better hope Bo Levi lasts all season long again. Buckley and Gale as backups? Hmmm...

Didn't know the RodBlacks were hungry for Frosted Flakes...

Tatertot never amounted to anything, but mostly because he didn't want to!! He was satisfied as a back up,when he could have competed earlier with other teams as a starter. I wouldn't sign this guy, he doesn't have the will to compete like other qbs do.

Don't know why people bash Gale, he was responsible for 2 of the Riders 5 wins.

If everyone's hero Darian Durant can only win 3 games this must mean Gale is on the verge of stardom.... (sarcasm for those who get their panties in a bunch when Durant is mentioned)

“It’s always paramount in the CFL to have at least two veteran quarterbacks that you know you can win with,” said REDBLACKS Head Coach Rick Campbell.

Not exactly the philosophy of one Chris Jones.

"Tate, 32, has spent his entire eight-year career with the Stampeders"

No he didn't. He got his start with the Riders.

Hopefully you've scrubbed all the cream outta your shorts after that steinberg interview on friday Rod and we can hear some serious sports talk radio this week...Vince Youngs not coming up here to play for loonies..the Riders shoulda gave Tate a shot he's looked good whenever he was asked to play, and has never really been given a proper shot at starting.

Better hope Mitchell can last all season?...think you should worry about your own qb problems

Lol.Perfect comments. Especially the Durant comment.

When he's been on the field he's played pretty well, but he also seems to be made out of glass. Which is how Bo got the shot in the first place. For that reason alone I don't think he would have been good for the Riders as a starting option even if we did get him out of Calgary.

As far as Vince Young goes, if he's ready to commit and do so for about 200k with maybe another 100 to 150 as performance or playing time bonuses (and nothing guaranteed) then I see no problem with him being in camp. If he's got nothing left in the tank it'll show and he'll be back in Texas quickly.

Only required when you have a QB made of glass like Harris and Durant

Yawn ... In other news, City of Saskatoon Saskatchewan will announce they will build a multiplex sports facility housing a new CFL franchise. This venue will also accomodate whl hockey plus professional lacross.

Kevin Glenn with two full seasons since 2009 and your worrying about how injury prone a back up qb is...makes sense. Go find another qb that hasn't played since 2011 and pay him half of what Durant makes...totally makes sense...bad decisions all around
