(Edmonton) - The Edmonton Eskimos have signed international quarterback Brett Smith.

Smith entered the league in 2014 on the practice roster of the Toronto Argonauts. The following season, he signed to the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The six-foot-three, 206-pound native of Oregon made his debut as a Rider against the Eskimos on July 31. He finished the season completing 142-of-224 pass attempts for 1,822 yards with 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Last season, he spent time on the practice roster of the Ottawa RedBlacks.

In three seasons at the University of Wyoming (2011-13), Smith threw for 8,834 yards with a record-setting 76 touchdowns and 28 interceptions. He also rushed for 1,529 yards on 378 carries with 20 touchdowns. In 2011, he was named Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year, averaging 256.3 yards in total offence per game. He finished his sophomore season with 174 pass attempts and no interceptions. In his junior year, Smith ranked among the top 25 quarterbacks in the NCAA in multiple categories.

Very interesting! is that mean they are getting ready to trade Franklin? Or thinking they will lose him next year to Free Agency.

Franklin will be here…sooner or later…but he will be here!

I agree with the last two posts. I always liked Smith as a QB. Didnt have the greatest camp last year, but seemed to have some shine in 2015.

Smith sensed that Jones was going to dump him and became uncomfortable. He's a very versatile two way QB and he was told he had to throw! Given a chance to develop, he'll become a top notch QB. During his time in Sask he was compared to all time greats! Spirited, tough and astute, he must have annoyed CJ (who really has a Fragile Ego Emperor Complex) with his Cockiness; resulting in him never being given a chance ?
