DURANT TRADE UPDATE - WITH CHRIS JONES QUOTES

MONTREAL - The Montreal Alouettes got the veteran quarterback they were seeking Friday when they acquired Darian Durant from the Saskatchewan Roughriders for two draft picks.

Durant played 11 seasons for Saskatchewan. He is eligible to become a free agent Feb. 14 and reportedly turned down a lucrative recent contract offer from the Roughriders.

On his website, Durant thanked Riders fans for their support.

"Dear Ridernation: This is a very emotional time for me right now and it's hard to put my thoughts together, but I wanted to send out a thank you from the bottom of my heart,'' he said in a statement. "Eleven years ago when I came up to Saskatchewan, I never could have imagined the love and support I've felt from the Rider fans across the world!

"Although I wanted to stay, everyone's time comes and this is mine. I have so many cherished memories of my time in green. I'm excited for a new opportunity. I'll say more later once this has sunken in. Thank you again!''

The Alouettes hope the 34-year-old will bring stability to a position that has seen a succession of quarterbacks come and go in the last three seasons.

They'd like Durant to help to develop Vernon Adams, who took over as the starter late in the his rookie campaign and helped the Alouettes finish with three straight wins. Montreal acquired Adams from the B.C. Lions for a first-round pick in May.

The five-foot-11 Durant led Saskatchewan to Grey Cup victories in 2007 and 2013. In his career, the Florence, S.C., native completed 2,226 passes for 28,507 yards and 149 touchdowns, with 99 interceptions. He has also rushed 375 times for 2,922 yards and 22 TDs.

Last season, he played in 15 games, completing 330 of 496 passes for 3,839 yards and rushed 57 times for 308 yards.

The quarterback position has been a mess in Montreal since the CFL's all-time passing leader Anthony Calvillo retired after the 2013 season.

Troy Smith, Alex Brink, Jonathan Crompton and Tanner Marsh are among the many who have played since then. The club felt it had the veteran it needed when Kevin Glenn was acquired late in the 2015 season, but he struggled to lead the offence last season and was traded after losing the starting job to Rakeem Cato.

Jacques Chapdelaine replaced Popp as coach on Sept. 19 and went 4-2 down the stretch, although the Alouettes did not make the playoffs. He eventually made Adams the starter but was believed to be looking for a more experienced pivot.

Durant has a 58-54-1 record in 113 career regular-season starts and is 5-1 as a starter in playoff games. He is second all-time on the Riders in attempts, completions and passing yards.

Saskatchewan finished last in the West Division last year with a 5-13 record, which factored in the decision to trade the veteran Durant.

"Well, we won five ball games last year with Darian so that's reality,'' Chris Jones, the Riders head coach/GM, told reporters in Regina. "He'd won three ball games the last three years and so, unfortunately, that's reality.

"And for us to continue to go down that road, especially when it wasn't going to be a contract where we felt comfortable it wasn't something I felt comfortable doing.''

Jones said he plans to have an open competition for the starting quarterback job once the Riders open training camp.

"We're going to bring all of our quarterbacks to camp and let them compete,'' he said. ``We're going to chart everything that we know to chart and the best man wins.''

Among those expected to be in the mix are Brandon Bridge of Mississauga, Ont., a former Alouette.

"Sometimes at practice (Bridge) doesn't always look polished,'' Jones said. "He looked more like a gamer and again if I could pick between having a game player or practice player I'd take the game player.''

I am happy for Darian not having to put up with someone like Jones anymore. Though we all know what Reed is about.

You also only won 5 games last year jones.

Anonymous said...

I say go with Brandon Bridge.

We won 5 games last year with Jones running the ENTIRE show. The buck stops with him. That's the REALITY.

Also, obvious to see that there is no Master Plan when it comes to a replacement. QB carousel for 2017, to go along with the record number of players on the roster last year.

We gave him carte blanche, and are now his guinea pig project. F Jones.

I like Brandon Bridge and think with a full training camp, he could be the next thing in Riderville!

So basically Jones has no plan at QB. None of the QBs on our current roster are going to make us even remotely competitive. With our current QB's we will be lucky to win 3 games. Jones neck is on the line big time now, if he thought he was getting scrutinized last year, hes going to get roasted this year if this blows up in his face. I sure hope he knows what hes doing.

The reality is we won five games with Chris Jones as head coach that's the reality!!

Please note BIG error in this report out of Montreal - Durant did not lead the Riders to the Grey Cup in 2007, it was Kerry Joseph.

Good god man, there is no even a credible back-up on the roster! I hope he can swing a deal for Tony Romo.

Still want to buy my season tickets Rod? I seriously would have thought twice about renewing my season tickets if I truly believed that we would be heading into the season without at least the IDEA of a starting QB - Durant or not! Its fine that I made a $1000 donation, and wonderful to go see the new stadium for the first 3 or 4 games of the year, but that will get old fast when we have to drive in and watch a crap team again. There is a reason I didn't drive in for every game in the 90's! they Stunk! When I couldn't get to 3 or 4 games in 2012,2013,2014 I was able to sell my tickets for face vaule. Last year I couldn't give them away! And I have a hard time believing that they will have a QB that can win games in 2017.

Last year Jones was a rookie GM who made some bad deals but I thought he had to tear the team down and rebuild and at least he was learning as he goes as far as getting our team burned on the Capacotti, Lemon, Price, Chick decisions. But not finding a way to keep the team's franchise player is disheartening to say the least.

Anonymous said...

The arrogance in explaining the deal by GM Jones is truly breathtaking!! The whole thing smacks of a big F you to Rider Priders.

"Well, we won five ball games last year with Darian so that's reality,'' Chris Jones, the Riders head coach/GM, told reporters in Regina. "He'd won three ball games the last three years and so, unfortunately, that's reality.
Those are the words of a coach blaming a single player for the failings of the entire team. He takes no responsibility on himself for poor coaching decisions, poor personnel decisions, a revolving door recruiting scheme, and lack of experience on HIS team. Remember Cory Chamblin saying he was still a good coach and the players weren't performing, or Greg Marshal saying it was the players fault. Both of them were gone shortly after those clear comments blaming the players and not accepting any of the responsibility. Sounds like Jones is heading the same way.

Building a winner takes time, patience and making tough choices. Look at the Dallas Cowboys, even with Romo they were ok at best. Found their gem's in Prescott and Elliot (though I hate Dallas). Every franchise in sports goes from winning championships to rebuilding stages (with the exception of the Cleveland Browns) and it's the Riders turn. Even after all those glory years in Edmonton the Eskimos went through some rough seasons and who pulled them through? JONES! Jones has proven he can win and it typically takes a GM/Head Coach 3 - 5 years to do a proper re-build and be competitive again. After year 3 of the Jones era we can start the real complaining.

Anonymous said...

Jones takes no responsibility for anything. The Riders are a mess.

PVO said...

Perhaps he cant say anything more or what people want because they are targeting someone already in the league that might come available. Relax, I hate this move but I don't believe its the only chip to fall.

Good lord people take a breath and think with your head not your Green Heart. DD was 58-54 in his career as a starter and some of you would think he was Anthony Calvillo or Tracey Ham, but he's not. When he is good he is good but not great, whenhe is bad he is terrible and over the last few years when he played he has been bad. end of story. Jones is getting paid to turn a team around and all you sentimental fans have to stop living in the past. DD was built into a franchise QB simply because we had such low expectations for so long. I mean we made Kerry Joseph into a demi god we were so desperate, I don't know about you guys but I welcome the chance to see someone new. I appreciate DD for his time but his time is done.

Anonymous said...

3-5 YEARS? That's crazy talk. This is the CFL - Ottawa was in the Grey Cup in their Second season after starting from scratch. The Riders should be competitive by next year.

Jones had a full year of try-outs last year. That's on him. If his goal was to move onto the next one at QB, he should have parted ways with Durant last year with the rest of the vets on this team. Now he's wasted a year of potential QB development/searching. Last year was a revolving door across the team. This year it will be that at the QB position.

He screwed this up, plain and simple. I'm not saying the Riders will never find another QB, I'm saying this was handled poorly, by a rookie GM, who treated a valued member of the Rider organization very, very poorly. I'm also saying, Jones has used up his goodwill and patience with a lot of fans, very, very quickly. If we don't see tangible, actual improvement this season, I'll be happy to join the mob looking for his head.

There is actually one other quarterback on the Rider roster who was a pretty good college Q.B. a certain Armanti Edwards. Now before anyone says I crazy think about it.
A certain Kerry Joseph spent several years in the N.F.L. as a D.B. before coming to Canada and re-kindling his Quarterback career with some success (2007 Grey Cup M.V.P.)
I also seem to recall in an interview with a L.P. reporter that Edwards talked about the opportunity to play Q.B. again. Allowing him to get his feet wet in the C.F.L. as a receiver and to see how the game operates seems logical. I recall reading about Edwards when he completed his college career and thought he was ideally suited for the Canadian game. Just think about it.

To be fair, Ottawa did NOT start from scratch. Does anyone recall the expansion draft? Teams could only protect so many players... I like Darian Durant and wish all the best in Montreal...EXCEPT when they play the Riders. Las season aside, Chris Jones has a pretty impressive body of work. I am still willing to give Coach Jones the benefit of the doubt. I, for one, was not at all surprised to hear that DD will not be with the Riders this season. Time will tell, I guess.

For 400,000.00, rider nation got a 3-15 and 5-13 seasons, however DD was hurt for the 3-15 season, now with that record for that kind of money, they can start fresh for a lot less. Face it Sheets made Durant look good, other than that he could not even throw a 8 yard pass consistantly. DD time has come, thanks for passion and heart, wishing you well in Montreal.

The departure of Durant represents the full and final closing out of the Jim Hopson Era... Rider Nation is now firmly into the Reynold's Era and thus far, it ain't looking that good (save for the new stadium). History will eventually unveil whether the decision to go with rookie GM Chris Jones was the right one, or one that takes us back in time to the pre-Hopson circus with its volatility and a revolving door for QB's. The only winners today are the sports talk shows here and beyond, especially in Montreal.

Can't wait for Labour Day again this year .... got my hotel booked.

I agree, DD did not put up the wins for the money, Jones can play what they have on the roster for a lot less money and probably have the same record or better. Rider nation it is time the riders get younger at QB, yes I agree they did not develop a QB to be a successor, however Jones has plan and the 8 yard guy with two bounces of the turf was not in plan......You are Green and you are Ridernation!!!

Anonymous said...

@Unknown - Chris Jones did not HAVE to start from scratch, he CHOSE to start from scratch. If the expansion draft was such an advantage for Ottawa, why would Jones blow the entire team up, instead of making a more concerted effort to retain some veteran experience on this team? He CHOSE to let all the veterans go, some rightly and some wrongly, to build this team HIS WAY.

The signs that he was not serious about re-signing DD have been apparent since about the middle of last year, go back and look at his sound bites and news clippings. That is what bothers me the most about this - hate to see DD treated that way after selling out for this team and community for a decade.

This was a power struggle, pure and simple.

The last time the CFL saw this was when Eric Tillman traded away Ricky Ray for magic beans.

Ray went on to break the league record for completion percentage.

Edmonton went several years in the wilderness.

And Tillman was fired not long after.

Boy, is Reynolds is going to be on the hot seat when we start 2-8 this year. He pissed off the whole old guard by hitching his wagons to Jones. He's going to be squirming once our new QB starts making rookie mistakes. (Or, if it's Kevin Glenn, veteran mistakes.)

In time Rider fans will come to know that this was the best thing for the Riders. There comes a time when you have to make a break with past. Darian Durant was not much more than a .500 QB as a starter. But because he was the starter for a team that went to 3 Cups he has been elevated to a god-like status in Saskatchewan that he does not rightly deserve. Over the years few fans have held him accountable for any of the team's shortcomings. It's always been too many injuries or a bad offensive line or coaches aren't using him properly. Ridernation has not held him accountable as the on-field leader of this team, preferring to ignore when he isn't playing well and point fingers in other directions. The fact is that elite QB's, true leaders, put the team on their shoulders when the rough patches hit and help their teammates to elevate and overcome. DD has never been that guy. He has been a good QB in this league. But not the elite QB that Ridernation thinks he is, let alone a guy that is worth north of 400K. Jones is absolutely correct to reference the fact that DD has only won 3 games in 3 years. He may be the best QB on the roster but the bang for the buck is just not there. DD thinks he is worth a certain $$$ amount to the team, Jones disagrees. The facts suggest Jones is correct. Their are lots of QB's with nice upside coming into this league and the Riders will find someone in the next year or two that gives them alot of upside, with a bigger window, for cheaper.

Jones mentioned Durant got hurt 3 times last year. I believe every single #1 QB in the CFL was hurt at some point last year with the exception of Bo-Levi.

Durant also played behind a terrible O-Line and a never ending rotation of RBs...some with worse pass blocking ability than others.

Arash reports Jones and co. is inquiring about Drew Tate. Here's an interesting quote from a CP article after Tate signed his most recent contract extension:

"Tate was the heir apparent to Calgary’s starting job when the club dealt veteran Henry Burris to Hamilton in 2012, but multiple injuries limited Tate to just 153 completions over the next two seasons."

They got rid of 34 year old Durant who they believe to be injury prone and look to potentially replace him with 32 year old Tate who has dealt with several injuries of his own. Bo-Levi wouldn't be a CFL superstar if it wasn't for Tate being chronically injured.

Ill just leave your opinion about DD out of this, cause it stinks and i just flat out disagree with it.

As far as the future goes - Sure in the "long run" things will be better than they are now - because they cant get much worse.

I will give Jones credit IF and ONLY IF, he produces a clearly viable starting qb, THIS season. That qb and this team then needs to be winning games consistently in 2018. If he doesnt produce both of those things, then he's failed this organization. Period.

Get ready for year two of a full season of Training Camp folks.

Not happy with Jones at all right now. Not sure how he thinks he is going to win a game without a proven QB. I think him being a legend in his own mind is getting to him.

I have been a season ticket holder for 30 years and will hang onto my tickets for 2017 and then make a decision after that but I will no longer purchase anything "Rider" related until we have a winning team. Somehow the Rider fans have to send a message to this organization that we are not a happy group right now. OK, Durant's best days are behind him and he does not warrant a top tier QB salary in this league anymore. And I agree it is time to transition and think of the future. However, I would NOT have made this deal because they have NO ONE to hand the keys to at QB right now. This is the CFL. No experienced QB is code for no Grey Cup. There is no heir apparent and holding open tryouts is not a plan. And not only should the team have done everything possible to keep the fans interested and maintain financial support by fielding the best team it can for the opening season of New Mosaic, the message could have been high classed and respectful to a QB who represented the team and then community well. Instead, the tone was that DD was not a winner the past couple of years. Seriously? Tom Brady would look average on that team, and are we to believe that some back up or young QB or walk on at an open tryout is going to get us more than 5 wins in 2017? It sure worked for Montreal after Cavallo had retired, and this explains why they made the deal; you do not have to be a DD worshipper or have green colored glasses to know that DD is better than any of the cast of rag tags that Jones is now going to try out. While I have defended Jones previously, this trade and the pitiful return speaks of incompetence, or someone who is being egotistical. The Riders have become a dumpster fire, thanks to Chris Jones. He has no idea who will be the starting QB. He had most of them on the team all of 2016, yet not one of them stood out. Now he will toss a coin or what? If last years actions repeat themselves, then we will have a different starting QB every two or three games. That is what happened last year at running back, DB, D linemen, etc. etc. What a joke.
Several sports commentators today said that with Durant, Montreal becomes an instant Grey Cup contender. Yet he isn't good enough to help the Riders?
Jones kept saying "you will have to ask Darian", knowing full well that Darian is way too classy to throw Jones under the bus like Jones threw Darian under the bus. I hope that Durant does his talking with his play this year.
Why is it that everyone that does not like this move must be wearing rose coloured glasses about Durant but if you like this trade, you must be very intelligent? I think the rose coloured glasses came off a long time ago for most of us. The reality is that for a lot of you , the Jones bubble has not burst but it will after the Riders struggle to win four or five games in 2017.
Over the last twelve months, Jones has done major damage to the Rider team, Rider pride and the Rider brand itself. The pride and the brand took years to build but mere months to destroy.

I am still of the opinion that neither Jones or Murphy has the wherewithal to build this team.Just from last year, they brought in so many castoffs from other teams, never did find a bonafide running back, couldn't provide any offensive lineman once Labatte and Best went down and the list goes on. For sure 2017 will be yet another 18 game training camp.Rod, you and Scruffy could do the same thing. Sign player after player from all over North America, give them a game or 2 and bring some more in..I have zero faith in their ability to genuinely build a team through THEIR SUPPOSED MULTIPLE CONTACTS IN FINDING PLAYERS!!!This was what we we led to believe. But everyone knows Hufnagel can find player after player, with names unknown to many and they become starters almost overnight. As far as Jones and Murphy go ,they are assistants at best and yet given the keys to this franchise, As far as Darian, I wish him the best in Montreal and thank him for his years in Riderland. He is past his best before date IMO.2017 will tell a lot about the future of this franchise.

OK. I will concede and not argue the point that Durant was a good but not exceptional QB over his CFL career thus far, and that he personally is not necessarily integral to the success of the club (in addition to my previous remarks that one should always have a transition plan in place, with the injuries and performance of late suggesting clearly it is time to prepare for moving on). I accept all of that, as well as the fact that this move was designed to trade the "rights" to negotiate to the Alouettes and salvage something versus nothing once free agency arrived in a couple of weeks. All of this could be defensible, and if we are not privy to the real story, and the reality is actually that the contract demands of DD were such that he was not as committed to starting the first game at New Mosaic as he may have claimed due to simply over valuing his current worth or listening too much to his agent. Fine, we move in and save money to plug in elsewhere. But, lost in all of this, and putting aside for the moment the opportunity to roll this out with some class, is one unavoidable question. Who is the starter in 5 months time? Tino Sunseri coming back from retiremnt? What about Reggie Slack? Peyton Manning bored enough to come north? Tim Tebow? I know that Franklin in Edmonton may be a possibility but that is a year away at best. And it is here where I have the issue. Should there be a decent QB under centre in week 1, then fine, but Jones is gambling he can find some gem in the rough or is betting on someone he may have up his sleeve right now will be able to fill the spot. Or he may have absolutely nothing lined up and we will see a cast of no names and cross our fingers that one of them is good enough to get us a couple of wins next year.

Guy whose brilliant defence lead the riders to 5 wins in a season singles out the QB?
Sure Chris. Loser gm doesn't understand that the agent's job is not to make his job easier. Good luck getting skill players.

Well here goes nothing (not from me but from Jones).

Where to start? This, for me, is the culmination of Jones' arrogance, and quite honestly, his lack of leadership and accountability. He threw Durant under the bus with his statement regarding number of wins; extremely cowardly to do so, and to twist the reasoning by, in effect blaming Darian for being injured. Durant is not injury-prone, nor is he brittle; he is physically stronger than most, if not all of the QBs in the CFL. I can personally testify (as it happened to me) that an Achilles tendon tear is a freak occurrence.

Jones, in a nine-team league, has kept the team in the basement, with minimal improvements from the previous year. I will grant that he inherited a team that was 3-15, however this IS a nine-team league and almost everybody gets into the playoffs. The regular season record is nice to talk about but you don't get the Grey Cup based on that, just chat with Calgary and Ottawa (I will concede that this is an upset, so perhaps not the best example, but the only thing that should be the goal is winning the Grey Cup).

It is somewhat of a cliché, but the CFL is a QB-driven league. In my opinion Durant was not given enough credit for his clutch play and too much criticism for his mistakes. He cannot be expected to score thirty points AVERAGE over the course of the year (in fact, most of the teams last year did not). Even if he did lead the offense to precisely thirty points in every game, based on last year's points allowed, the team would have won nine games. Darian can hardly be handed the goat horns for the opposition scoring 53 points.

Keep in mind that the Riders' defense was abysmal last year and Jones is supposedly a defensive guru (just ask him). The team allowed the second most points in the league. Did I mention the 53 points?

Jones has gutted the team. He is an ego-maniac who, I believe, is striving to be the face of the franchise. Nobody comes to the games to watch the coach play. At least I don't. In the last 12 months or so he has tossed aside players who WERE franchise-type players (Durant, Chick, Dressler) all of whom are starters and are a loss to the team. As an acknowledgement, yes both Chick and Dressler tried the NFL those traitors (please note sarcasm).

I have season tickets but am seriously looking at not renewing them this year. Since I do not live in Regina, why drive four hours one way to watch an abysmal faceless team led by an overpaid git? I can always get tickets to come down when I feel like a road trip. Is this a case of "Everybody loves a winner"? Perhaps, but it is my money and my time. New stadium be damned, I cannot see myself backing Jones.

I have read all the comments from both the Durant trade posts and I have an observation. The people that think that this a dreadful trade are directing their anger and frustration at Chris Jones. He is responsible after all for this movement. I am one of this group; I believe this trade to be a huge mistake that will affect this team for years. On the other side are those that still have complete faith in Chris Jones. As a member of the Durant supporters, I have been called a crybaby, a whiner, a fool, an idiot, a bonehead and a "simple prairie rube". Probably some other names that I have forgotten. I have pretty thick skin; knock yourself out. One of these groups will be proven right in time. However, in the meantime, please try not to lower yourself to Chris Jones standards. If you have to resort to name calling to prove your point, perhaps you need to rethink your position.

Think it was tough watching a 5 win season?
It'll be harder viewing Jones' 18-game try-out camp this year.
It will be so hard on the eyes that there will be lots of spectators disguised as empty seats.

Remember when the question was why only a 33,000 capacity for the new stadium?

I'll bet there will be unclaimed seats at the majority of the Rider home games.

Jones is not only sticking a knife in the Rider Nation but also the entire CFL. Do you think his lunacy will not effect walk-on ticket sales when the Riders go to Calgary or Edmonton?

rod I was wundering if u have time to answer a question for me? ,if the Saskatchewan roughriders are "community owned",with a large number of "shareholders",is there any way to find out salaries of jones, murphy, oday, etc.? may help if management's $$'s were incentive upon performance!

Reality Bites well Chris Jones has taken a team with potential and destroyed any hope of winning how many plays did i watch Duraant get a Rush going only to have Jones pull him its pretty obvious that Jones resented Durrant He wants to be the only leader on the Riders. Rider nation needs to wake up its all about Jones .Reality is Riders may be at the Grey Cup watching Durant from the Stands

It only took Corey Chamblin one and a half seasons to go from Grey Cup Champion to kicking horse turds down the road.

What are the odds of Jones beating that record?

I am a lifelong Rider fan (40+years) until today. I don't care how many games the Riders win at this point, I don't want to be associated with a classless man like Chris Jones. To lay the woes of the last three seasons on one person (in a team sport) instead of thanking him for his 11 years of service is beyond anything I can comprehend. Durant deserved to start in the new stadium and if we were watching the same games he was one of the shining lights of the season despite what he had to work with. Rotating 90+ players though the uniform, a decimated O line and a defence that sucked had nothing to do with it. Give me a break. I won't be returning as a fan until they put someone with integrity and class in charge.

Jones has been in the cfl for 15 years, has been to the grey cup 7 times and has 4 grey cup rings ( that's double what Durant has).
Last year was the first time jones has missed the playoffs, and this is Durants third or fourth?

Prior regimes haven't had the balls to make decisions that would be unpopular to fans and that has resulted in only 4 grey cups in 100 years for the Riders.

Durant has never been a top 3 QB in the league (only flashed potential to be but never took the final step) and I fully support jones decision to move on. I have complete faith jones is the guy to get the Riders back to winning constantly and look forward to the better seasons that will be coming to new mosaic soon (maybe not soon enough for some fans).

How many Quarterbacks can you name that led their team to a Grey Cup win at the age of 34 or greater. As Kevin Reed said, the game slows down for veteran quarterbacks. Just imagine want Darren would do with an offensive line and a decent running game.

Great summary of what Jones has done to our team! His ego is almost too big for him to walk into a room! And MOST fans know that Jones low-balled DD, just like he did Weston & John. Yet he sure had lots of $s to sign all those players that he brought in that are no longer with the team, many who rec'd bonus $s up front - i.e. Lemon, Lawrence, Capicciotti, Denmark, Chiles etc. + let's not forget his trades for players who turned around & retired after getting a bonus i.e. Price!
D was terrible with all the rotating players (yet Jones is supposedly a D guru). Also rotating receivers, some RBs who couldn't block & we all know about the problems with the O line - partly cuz of injuries & partly again, cuz of lack of good evaluation of talent.
And now Jones made sure that DD didn't re-sign with his low-ball offer. And then throws him under the bus. Well Jones, the MAJORITY of the Rider fans aren't stupid! We know who to blame for this mess & it is you
I also find it sad that Reynolds has stayed hidden in his office & didn't step in. Either he really did hand Jones the keys to the Riders or he didn't have the guts to face off with Jones.
I've already bought this yr's tix but if, as I suspect, our team has another season of training camp - this time for the QB position - which cld have been avoided, I will seriously consider giving up my tix after 40+ yrs. I'm not paying almost $1,000 in /18 after the CEO & the Board let Jones ruin the team. I, along with a lot of other season tix fans, believe that the Riders have taken the fans for granted for a # of yrs - we'll pay anything to support our team, no matter what they do or what they charge us. Well, I think that time is coming to an end, just as we have a nice new stadium!

Even after of few days of trying to let this sink it, this "football" decision by Jones still stinks. Durant is still a qb with an elite skill set who is not injury prone gives any team a plays for a legitimate chance to win now. Currently, we have very few star players who fans can identify with (actually can't think of any!) and now there are reports that the Riders are close to signing the "all about me" trouble child, Duron Carter. To me this, along with all of his other bone-headed gaffes, illustrates that Jones is a complete bust as a GM and hasn't performed any better as a coach.

The "team" fielded by Jones last year was last in most, if not all, categories and 2017 is looking like it'll be worse than last year. Seems like all the Grey Cup teams he was a part of were successful in spite of him, not because of him. (ie what have you done for me lately). I'm a shareholder, a season ticket holder, will have my name on the builders wall and even had season tickets way back in the Lancaster era when he was a player and later the head coach of the 2-14 teams.

It's difficult to believe that the Riders, with Jones, will be able to attract any quality free agents considering the lack of respect and loyalty that he shows to players. His ability to find players on his own is seriously in doubt (as is obvious by the 100+ players through the revolving door last year and foreseen for 2017). Karma is a bitch and the the Evil Empire is laughing their butts off at us now. Hell, the Riders have become the laughing stock of the entire country. I honestly can't find a good reason, no matter how hard I try, to support the direction of the Riders as long as Jones is in control, or rather, out of control.

Waaa other teams have success but i don't understand that other teams don't cater to their fan favourites like the Riders used to

Waaa Chris jones doesn't care what I the fan wants or thinks
