GAINEY SIGNS CONTRACT EXTENSION

The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced today international defensive back Ed Gainey has signed an extension to remain with the team through 2019. As per team policy, financial details of the contract were not released.

Gainey (5’11 – 193) joined the Green and White after signing with the team as a free agent in February, 2016. Last season, the 26-year-old played 17 regular season games registering 49 defensive tackles, seven special teams tackles, three interceptions, and one fumble recovery that he returned 51 yards for a touchdown.

Through five CFL seasons, the Appalachian State product has totaled 118 defensive tackles, 32 special teams tackles, five interceptions, and one quarterback sack in 60 career regular season games. Gainey spent the 2012 and 2013 with the Montreal Alouettes before spending the next two seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Good to hear that he is signed for a few more years but we really need to have our QB back or it won't matter who else is signed. We will be nothing without our QB. Get Darian signed NOW!!!!!

"We're nothing without our QB"? I think you meant to say we're nothing if we don't have a QB.... it doesn't necessarily need to be Darian. I figure DD is good for about 8-9 wins (might be being a bit optimistic), we just need a guy who is capable of that with some future upside. And if we don't get that.... o well, we will get one eventually. This whole we will never win ever unless he is our QB mantra is getting old. If signed (and I hope we do for succession plan purposes) he's only good for another year or 2 (he ain't Hank, injuries), then what? We never win again? I really don't get this we need to win now or else idea. We need to win when we put a team together that can win consistently for years to come.... not just a quick cup and done.... we've tried that.... lets give the long term approach some time to develop, and let the professionals do their jobs.... O and let's quit mentioning Durant any time some good news comes along....
