Rookie Matthew Tkachuk scored twice as the Calgary Flames beat the Sharks in San Jose 3-2. Tkachuk's second goal of the game stood up as the winner. He broke a 2-2 deadlock at the 15:39 mark of the third. Chad Johnson made 26 saves for the win.


The Toronto Maple Leafs have their first road win of the season. Mitchell Marner scored two goals and Frederik Andersen made 42 saves as the Leafs topped the Sabres 2-1 in Buffalo. Toronto has won two straight and improved to 1-3-3 on the road. They also ended an eight-game winless streak in Buffalo.


Make it seven straight losses for the Vancouver Canucks. Mike Condon made 27 saves in his Ottawa debut as the Senators topped Vancouver 1-0. Elsewhere, Alex Ovechkin scored twice, including the OT winner as Washington edged the Winnipeg Jets 4-3. And the Edmonton Oilers dropped a 5-3 decision to the New York Rangers.


LeBron James scored a season-high 30 points and the reigning NBA champion Cleveland Cavaliers stayed undefeated, beating the Boston Celtics 128-122. James moved within two points of passing Hakeem Olajuwon for 10th place on the NBA's all-time scoring list. The Cavaliers are 5-and-0 for the first time since 1976-77 when they started 8-and-0.


The Philadelphia Phillies have declined their contract option on longtime first baseman Ryan Howard. Howard had a 23-million dollar option for next year and instead gets a 10-million dollar buyout. The 2006 NL MVP was the last remaining member of Philadelphia's 2008 World Series championship team.


Matt Ryan threw for 344 yards and four touchdowns, helping the Atlanta Falcons tighten their grip on first place in the NFC South with a 43-28 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Julio Jones had eight receptions for 111 yards and a T-D as the Falcons avenged a season-opening loss to the Bucs.
