WEST KELOWNA WARRIORS WIN ROYAL BANK CUP

LloydminsterBobcats.ca
LLOYDMINSTER, Sask. - Matthew Greenfield stopped all 48 shots he faced to help the West Kelowna Warriors win the RBC Cup on Sunday with a 4-0 win over the Lloydminster Bobcats.

It's the first time West Kelowna has won Canada's junior A hockey championship.

"The guys in front of me were unbelievable,'' said Greenfield. "I wanted to do it for them; they got me here and I wanted to pay them back.''

Liam Blackburn had a short-handed goal in the third period for the Warriors. Jonathan Desbiens scored the eventual winner in the first period, while Reed Gunville and Rylan Yaremko chipped in as well.

"This is a special group of kids we had right from the start,'' said Warriors head coach Rylan Ferster. "We had to work for everything we got here; it's been a great ride for us and I'm really happy for the team.''

Alex Leclerc made 23 saves for the Bobcats.

Neither team scored on the power play. West Kelowna went 0 for 6 and Lloydminster was 0 for 4.
