RIDERS SIGN CAPICCIOTTI

The Roughriders have confirmed the signing of free agent non-import defensive lineman Justin Capicciotti.  Roughriders Head Coach & GM Chris Jones told reporters on Wednesday that the veteran Canadian has agreed to terms and the contract was being registered with the league.

Capicciotti was identified as one of the Top 30 CFL free agents by CFL.ca after registering double-digit sack totals the past two seasons with the RedBlacks.

The Riders are expected to announce the signing Thursday morning.

I say we just call off the 2016 season and hand over the Grey Cup to the Riders now!

Come November, the 2016 standings should end up looking like this:

1st place - Riders
2nd place - Bombers
3rd place - Stamps
4th place - Eskimos
5th place - Lions

Capicciotti and Newman are the only 2 decent signings

The rest can be cut right now as they are just a waste of time and money.

Stop drinking the green koolaid and see what is really happening.

What??? Greg Jones isnt as good at his LB position as a rotational, special teams player like Newman. Open your eyes man. Greg Jones is an awesome LB and was Toronto's best LB by far.
You should get off the home Province boy kick and look at whats in front of you.
Plus Chiles with his 4.2 speed will be an awesome receiver

Good signings. However 3 and 15 means that signings and recruitment has to be much better than everybody just to keep up. The riders still are outta the playoffs 1st Winnipeg 2nd Calgary 3rd Edmonton 4th Riders 5th BC. Edmonton does not make playoffs. Hamilton catches them in crossover.
Do not confuse rebuild with reload. Rebuild Saskatchwan. Reload Calgary.

I hope Old Hank is right in his prediction as there would be no better way for Mosaic Stadium and Taylor Field to end its existence than with a home play-off game.

Good chance that Chad Owens is headed to the Bombers. Should be one heck of a speedy receiving attack with Dressler, Smith and Owens.

...and to boot the Riders will be picking first in the upcoming college draft!

The signing of a Canadian defensive end is good news for Dylan Ainsworth. The Riders now have flexibility to go with two Canadian interior d-lineman.

In December when the Riders released their 19 'all-stars', a huge hue-and-cry erupted among the Chicken Littles.

Hmmm, I wonder why there's no frenzy with other teams signing them??

Some unreal signings today. Now we see why the Riders cut Chick and Dressler. Got some less expensive players under 30.I think Mr. Jones and the boys know what they are doing. Still have to play the game though.

Capicciotti was a fabulous "GET". A young all-star Canadian D-lineman within budget. He anchored Ottawa's defence last season and is a horse. Great signing and likely more to come.

While other teams are trying to build with no QB and a couple tiny receivers, It's clear the Jones wants a quality defence and man is he ever putting together a good one. This wan't a good day it was great day.

The few trolls on this site will never be happy with anything. They along with their buddy at the LP can pound sand. These guys know how to build a team the right way and Rideer Nation is very happy today.

Guaranteed the Riders aren't going 3-15 this season

I really have mixed feelings about this guy (Jones). Is this a fix for long term, or is this just to clean up the act and have a shiny new team going into next year and the new stadium? I am not so sure this team needed the gutting that it has received so far. You could say "oh yeah, of course most gotta go, after all we were 3-15. But what would their record be if Durant didn't get hurt? 8-8? 9-7? Now are we even talking coaches getting fired, far less GM's getting let go?

Less than two and half years ago, Chamblin/Taman were the toast of the town; now some southerner with a drawl comes in and we are falling all over him? Give your head a shake. In two years he will ride away on his Harley like the Don did, without winning the next Rider Grey Cup.

PLAIN AND SIMPLE! : Chris Jones and Co will get this Riders team to where it needs to be and that's at the top of the CFL! NO, It's not going to happen overnight and Saskatchewan isn't going to all of a sudden dominate the league, but with the personel running this franchise now, Everyone will friggin get it through their thick heads that the Saskatchewan Roughriders are going to be Dangerously good and that this won't be your daddy's loser teams of the 80's! Chris Jones is a winner and he means business and all other franchises and their fans will soon understand that you A.don't have a say in the matter and B. YOU BETTER GET OUT OF THE FRIGGIN WAY cause the Riders are gonna Kick ass for years to come! END OF STORY!

Randolph - Tamans team won a cup but had a 10-8 record full of older players. They could have lost to BC if DD didn't go animal and gut BC in the 4th qtr with his runs. Riders were not a dominant team. Once DD got hurt Taman's roster was exposed. old, expensive plus his lousy trading robbed Riders of any good draft picks for a few years. You don't have to like Jones or Murphy, but just looking at their moves, their logic when they speak and their approach I would take that 100 times out of 100 versus Taman's approach. To each his own though.

In 2013 we won a GC with a 2nd place team we had paid too much for and we got lucky after a five game losing skid late. DD masked a mediocre defence. In 2014 we started off well because DD was winning the close games for us. When he went down the defence went as well. It was exposed for what it was. We had no money to trade for a good QB. In 2014 when DD went down we still had no defence and it showed. No matter what Glenn could do, our defence was so poor we couldn't win games. In fact we had good offensive stats until Glenn went down but we still couldn't win. They were covering our small slow receivers or they were injured. We had no receiver threats so all they had to do was key on Messam. We may have won a few more games with DD but our problems wouldn't have been fixed. This team has missed the playoffs two times in five years. We had an attitude and managerial problem. They were willing to go with cheap substandard people particularly on defence to pay for likes of Chick and Dressler etc. We were getting old and overpaid. Mnay guys who should have stepped up last season didn't when we needed them most.

For just about two seasons the talent wasn't here and DD tried to mask the problem. Yet there are still some goofs who think you can fix this with band-aids and glue. Taman tried that with Winnipeg cast offs etc. and it never worked. This year he would have paid out Dressler and Chick, done no renegotiating and we would have still had a crappy team. The trolls who don't think this team didn't need a major blow up are living in a fools paradise.

People were moaning players wouldn't come here because Chick and Dressler left. Well that didn't happen did it? We got more and better replacements. This team has exponentially better and younger players with quality Canadian conent. We have increased our size and physicality which has been long overdue. Had Jones tried to turn around a 4-14 Edmonton club using the rink-a-dink method employed by the previous GM, they would still have been 4-14. Serious circumstances require serious action. YET a few trolls remain. Loathesome individuals.

Jones, O'Day and Murphy have done an outstanding job and this team is far better for their hard work.

Sooooo we got better and younger but people are still upset?? Hmmm.
We should have stayed with the status quoue and not ruffled any feathers. I dont handle change well.
