WINNIPEG, MB – Winnipeg Blue Bombers Head Coach Mike O'Shea today announced the appointment of former CFL running back Avon Cobourne as the club's Running Backs Coach. Cobourne joins Winnipeg after spending the past two seasons in the same role with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Cobourne entered the coaching ranks in 2014 following a stellar seven year Canadian Football League career, where he played 98 career games. The product of West Virginia University played five seasons with the Montreal Alouettes after originally signing with the team prior to the 2006 season. He played his final two seasons in Hamilton after joining the Tiger-Cats as a free agent in 2011. Cobourne rushed for 4,999 yards and 37 touchdowns on 919 carries throughout his CFL career, while also tallying 276 receptions for 2,510 yards and seven touchdowns.
Cobourne is a two-time Grey Cup champion (2009, 2010) and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2009 Grey Cup. He is also a three time East Division all-star (2008, 2009, 2012) while also being named a CFL All-Star in 2009 after posting a career high 1,214 yards rushing.
