ZACK EVANS STAYING IN OTTAWA

OTTAWA-GATINEAU - Defensive lineman Zack Evans has agreed to a two-year contract extension with the Ottawa REDBLACKS of the Canadian Football League.

The 25-year-old Regina native recorded a career-high seven sacks in 2015, tied for second on the team, and had 17 tackles.

Evans also scored a touchdown on a memorable play in July at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, rumbling untouched for a 66-yard score after intercepting an errant shovel pass by quarterback Matt Nichols.

Evans, who had been eligible for free agency next month, joined the REDBLACKS prior to the inaugural 2014 season after being selected in the 2013 CFL Expansion Draft from the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

"I'm very happy to continue my career in Ottawa," said Evans. "I love the city and the REDBLACKS fans, who remind me a lot of the fans in Regina. I'm looking forward to getting back on the field next season and helping the team take that next step, winning a Grey Cup."

Prior to Ottawa, Evans signed with the Riders in 2012 as a territorial exemption after playing junior football for the Regina Thunder.

Season tickets for the 2016 REDBLACKS season are available at the team website, or by calling 613-232-6767, ext. 1.

Love how every fan base is compared to the Riders!
(That's in stadium, not the online wing nuts)

Never should have been donated to Ottawa in the expansion draft.

Astute draft pick by the REDBLACKS of R Nation ! Fine fine fine draft pick. Young man of 25 on the upside of a pro football career. Now who would stupidly give up on that?

Now that the holidays are over, here's hoping the axe falls heavy and excessive costly rr player contracts are punted into oblivion.

Yes and high priced people like Getzlaf must re negotiate their contract or be released

The capitalization of Redblacks is some sort of mickey mouse embarrassment.

If Taman protects Sholo, we've still got Evans.

Give me one other starting Canadian that the Riders should have left unprotected ... go.

Wow, I'm a life long Rider fan, and I can honestly say that Rider nation really is disgusting and pathetic.
Nothing makes you people happy. The old management regime was bad, every decision Jones and Murphy makes is a mistake and the sky is falling at the same time you're screaming about being attacked by wolves.
What a sad pathetic joke this has become.

It's mosty fans of other teams. They come here, stir the crap. The good news for Rod is it drives hits to his blog, which in turn puts more money in his pocket for advertising.

Man I wish you were 100% right, but sadly it's just not true.

I do take solace in the fact the only place these idiot cowards spread their venom is this blog. If they were to talk this stupid in public they would need jaws wired shut inside of a week.

The money does make sense as to why this blog isn't as regulated as others.
