WHEAT KINGS 4 PATS 0

Regina – The Regina Pats (20-21-3-4) lost 4-0 to the East Division leading Brandon Wheat Kings (30-13-2-2) at the Brandt Centre before 4243 fans on Sunday afternoon.

Game Story
The Brandon Wheat Kings got three points from Jayce Hawryluk (2G, 1A) en route to a 4-0 victory over the host Regina Pats.

Both of Hawryluk’s goals came in the first including one on the power play.

The Pats outshot Brandon 12-10 in the opening frame but could not convert any of their opportunities.  The only goal of the second came on a drop pass out in front of the Pats net from Jayce Hawryluk to Tyler Coulter who beat Tyler Brown.  The best chance for the Pats came in the third when Adam Brooks fed Austin Wagner with a long pass after leaving the penalty box for serving two minutes for hooking.  Wagner was stopped on the breakaway by Wheat Kings goaltender Jordan Papirny.  Brandon would add a late goal to make it 4-0 Brandon.

The Regina Pats play their third straight game on home ice when they host the Saskatoon Blades in a Friday night affair at the Brandt Centre, on January 29 on 620 CKRM.  The game sponsor for the contest is the Lung Association, it’s also $4 can of beer night.  Tickets are available at Ticketmaster.ca, the Brandt Centre Box Office and Safeway locations throughout Regina.

Wheaties showed thier stuff today and hopefully Pats can take something away from it. Stay out of the sin bin for one (which I said was going to be the difference) and see what hard work does for a Team. Brandon played 3 games in less than 48 hours and skated circles around us. Thier "systems" appear to be paying off, whether it be 5 on 5 or PP...Pats coaches take note.

We had a week of practice to work on PP and while it looked different, it certainly didn't pay many dividends. Disapointing to say the least.

Hobbs/Williams - please come back asap...we need help on D.

Thought Riley Woods played very well tonight...so smart without the puck as well as with the puck...size the only thing holding him back.

Yikes. Kelly must have bribed the refs extra well. Plus paid for the steak and lobster at The Keg.

Refs had zero to do with this. Hardly any penalties in the game. When there were, Brandon took advantage. Aside from an OK first period, the Pats got outworked and outmatched in every facet of the game. It looked like men against boys, especially the second period. Agreed on two of the points above. Riley Woods looked pretty good. Also yes Hobbs and Williams would help things dramatically. Looked as though there may have been more D that got banged up last night as Brooks played D most of the 3rd. Schioler appeared hurt after he got hip checked (excellent, clean hit by the way). Young Riley Bruce looked OK playing limited minutes for a young kid playing defence against a good Brandon team.

..they played poorly on Saturday and stole a win. They tried it on Sunday and got spanked. No compete at all, lack of discipline, a bad goal. Richards dumb penalty in the O-zone was the turning point in the game.,besides Brandon being a more mature team, they are much bigger, and talent wise we don't come close.-- they tore down a good team last year and the results since have been well meh…since Hunt was traded we have played below .500 hockey..with returning players next season nobody at the rink sees much improvement for what's supposed to be our breakthrough season….since Brandon knocked us out in 4 games two seasons ago they have gotten better and better and we have shown no improvement…trading a bunch of picks for an invisible 20 year old doesn't help much.

That was a complete schooling. The Pats cannot compete with the Wheat Kings. Trading away prospects and draft picks for a 2 month rental player is going to make the Martin Marincin deal look like the Josh Dondaldson trade. Brutal.

Not at all surprising. Brandon down because they were tired and couldn't score more goals in this more like a practice game. How is the rebuilding going?

Anholt in Lethbridge has taken a doormat team all the way to first place in their conference, and now the top team in the league. A team that is just as young as us and had done nothing for years under other GM/Coaches. In one lousy season they are the top team in the league. Anholt made smart trades and built on what he had. We're supposed to have the best coaching in the league but it don't look like it. It must mean our talent is terribly overrated. Lethbridge is young so they should be better next season…OMG. Where does that leave us?

According to Roddy, KM controls all officials in the WHL.

KM didn't have any bearing in last nights's game. Slashing a guys stick out of his hand in front of the ref gets you called every time. Real bad because it was in the offensive zone.

Stripes really blew the non call when McAmmond had his head smashed into the boards on a hit from behind. Crappy officiating has become commonplace in this league. These guys seem to reserve their worst for here.

Taylor Cooper has 7 points in 5 games with Chicoutimi in the Q.

Cut the BS...we are not a good hockey club...if we are building for "our Year" next year and building around Sam Steel then we are in a big mess. If it were not for Brown playing very well against PA we would have got spanked then as well....blame the refs all you want but we are small and can not take the punishment required to win in this league. We will get the first round playoffs lose out and the Brain Thrust will put ticket prices up and tell the customers "if you don't like it don't buy tickets" then start blowing tickets out at very reduced prices like is happening now....why would you buy season tickets when you get no benefit from it...buy cheap tickets and sit in gold section as people do every game now
