JONES WILLING TO LISTEN TO RIDERS

Edmonton head coach Chris Jones did little to quiet the rumours that he is leaving the Eskimos after leading them to a Grey Cup title.

Jones spoke to reporters Wednesday at the Eskimos' final media availability of the season.

Asked repeatedly to comment on reports that he is being courted by the Saskatchewan Roughriders for their vacant head coach and general manager roles, Jones made it clear he is happy in his current role. But he didn't exactly slam the door shut on the possibility of an off-season move.

"I like it here, I like winning football games, but certainly I have to keep my options open if opportunities arise,'' he said.

The Eskimos beat Ottawa 26-20 in Sunday's Grey Cup final to win the CFL title in Jones' second season as head coach.

posturing for a raise with the Eskies, nothing more to see here

Ed Hervey: “we’re not an organization that holds people back”

cue that to mean Orlando Steineuer as their next HC with that shot at Kent Austin and the tigger cats

I'm convinced he'll be the next coach and GM.

When a team makes it known they're going after someone who's under contract AFTER interviewing candidates it speaks volumes.

He would be dumb not to listen to an offer that would more than double his salary. He may bleed green and gold today but tomorrow it can be green and white.
Personally I hope they don't hire him as I can't see how an inexperienced GM can handle scouting, contracts, negotiations, fix the defense and be a head coach too. He has only been a head coach 2 years. The first year wasn't pretty.

I agree with my good buddy Russ from Saskatoon! Jones as VP, GM, Coach and O'Day as his assistant and head of a revitalized scouting department. The most effective duo since Batman and Robin!

He won 2nd place in his first year as a head coach after taking over a 4-14 team. Yeah I think Jones knows what he's doing.

How can you turn down $625,000.00 in the CFL ? Apparently the Riders have offered him double his salary and that is sitting at about $310,0000.00 per year . So you do the Math.

A BIG BIG BIG NO to Jones !!!!!!!!

Chris Hired for a fortune. Fired by Labor Day (only following the example of plaza of honor). Jeremy to clean up the mess in the interm. Then on to court Huff as the money from old stadium new stadium keeps on coming. After the shine wears off in 2018 and with 3 consecutive losing seasons the money suddenly stops. Nothing in the bank from the good old days and a looming telethon approaching. Kind of like Brads mismanagement of the economy. This is moving forward.

He is a coach not a GM - bad choice

A Jones hire and in 2 years Riders will be doing this over again.

They will be doing this over for sure if an inexperienced or at best poorly experienced takes over. Jones has forgot more about winning and building a club than O'Day will ever know. Being a good ole boy doesn't make a good ole manager!

So exactly how much gm experience did austin have? Jones arguably has more. Why stop there? Sign john murphy to be assistant gm and director of player personnel.

pure posturing to milk Edmonton dry

Maybe O'Day will bolt if this happens

Wow - lots of skeptism in the posts above. I don't get it, all this guy has done since coming into the league is win.

I'm all for this. My guess is O'Day sticks around too but if not Jones will come up with options.

2 Years as a HC does not make one a excellent GM.
Jones ia Another Chamberlain (no matter how you spell his name)

Murphy learned from a winner. Sunderland learned from a winner. O'Day learned from a.........oh, forget it.

Bolt where? Nobody wants him as their gm.

He hasent even been interviewed yet doubt he was offered and money yet. All Rummers and speculation at this point

Lol why would people not want Jones here? He just won the Grey Cup. He can come here, hire a new assistant GM (Yes O'Day can go) and new head scout. Riders need brand new people in place. I think if O'Day was hired, he'd probably just keep Dyce as head coach and then we'll see the same old players on the team and the Riders will have another losing season.

O'Day learned from a Grey Cup winner too ...

ah yes those speculative "rummers"! I think jones has the demeanour fitted for riderville, however I question the dual roles...does he fit the mould of a Hufnagel,Buono,or Austin? now that is the $750 000 question my rider friends!!

The only Jones I want to see on the Rider sidelines is Lee!

Rod, you were laughing that Winnipeg wanted permission to speak to Maas as OC and ASsist HC.and was declined because Maas didn't want to go to Winnipeg.
I having the same feeling that anyone O'Day would want as Coaches would also decline and not want to come to Sask. Who would want to work for someone who has been looking for a MLB for 3yrs and a D End for 5 yrs..( but he has experience, I ask in what).

I can see him being a possible coach for our team, however, I think he lacks the capabilities to act as a GM. We have already groomed a great individual in the name of O'Day who has already shown great skill and has all the tools to make an excellent GM. He knows our needs and wants.
