2015 GREY CUP PHOTOBLOG

WINNIPEG - When we travel to these events we always like to make you feel like you're here right along with us so here's a Friday photoblog from 2015 Grey Cup Week.  As you see by the front page of the newspaper, everyone's in the CFL spirit!

Riderville - the official host party of the Saskatchewan Roughriders - opened its doors at the Winnipeg Convention Centre on Thursday.  CKRM's Luc Mullinder shows you the way...

Alex Runions - the favourite country act of Rider receiver Chris Getzlaf - was the first to take the stage at 5:00 pm on Thursday ...

The doors had literally just opened when we went in to snap a few pics ...

Need to take a load off?  There's a spot to get off your feet at Riderville ...

This photo from the lounge at our hotel embodies the spirit of Grey Cup.  Fans from a variety of teams got together to celebrate the Canadian Football League ...

The Convention Centre is the hub of all the activity and attracted these fans who were interviewed on local TV ...

The Calgary Stampeders Outriders were nice enough to pose for a photo ...

TSN's Milt Stegall and Jock Climie got corralled by the Grey Cup Fun Police which includes a former co-worker of mine, Dave Duncan (left) ...

TSN's Rod Smith and Chris Schultz do their thing ...

On TSN's Radio Row, Alouettes legend Anthony Calvillo stops by TSN 1040 Vancouver to chat with host Matt Sekeres ...

TSN's James Duthie will anchor this weekend's Grey Cup television coverage and popped into the SportsCage ...

So too did Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback Drew Willy who was all dressed up for the CFL's Player Awards ...

Great to see former Roughrider Jeff Treftlin ...

The 620 CKRM Rider Pep Band stopped by our broadcast location to play a few numbers.  The other radio station hosts weren't overly impressed with the interruption but we were!

The Canadian Football Hall of Fame has a great display set up just outside Riderville and it includes this impressive display of Grey Cup rings from over the years...

Keep it here for more coverage from Grey Cup Week in Winnipeg!

The Sportscage is knowcking it out of the park this week. Thanks, guys; the show and the photos are the next best thing to being there!

Thanks Rod.

Riderville was a lot of fun last night and bands were all great.

Rider Alumni Hosts - Mike McCullough and Neil Hughes were very funny.

thanks Rod, much appreciate the photos. keep em coming.

Where would the Riders be if they still had Drew Willy? Where would the Bombers be?

No. I am not Luc`s mother, but I think he is the cat`s meow. I love the team you have assembled this week. I love Carm too, but for sure regularity, you can`t beat Luc for insight and analysis day to day.

Luc, you have a great future if you can work on eliminating `You know what I mean`and `Man ... whatever`. That will come. Work on it.

Luc not saying "You know what I mean" would be like having Carm not use the word "But" or my wife saying "I'm not joking". Within everyone's DNA is woven a habitual word or phrase that is part of what makes them who they are.

Sportscage once again kicking Green Zone's ass. As usual, it isn't even close. Heard 5 minutes of Nye last night which was 4 mins and 20 sec too much. Pedersen plays with the big boys and Nye once again sits at the kids table. Where is their show coming from anyhow?

If you guys could somehow snag Suitor for your show, it would be complete. Abou for Suitor trade----NAHHHH, not even CJME is that stupid!

In reference to: `

Ha- ha, point taken. I do love both Luc and Carm. Part of their charm.

Great photo thread Rod! Makes me feel like I'm in Winnipeg!

Holy crap those outriders though, almost enough to make me cheer for the Stamps next season! Yowza!

Rod:

Were you at Orridge newser today? What a bunch of nothing. I was hoping to hear some answers on a lot of issues critical to this league and I got zip. My confidence in Mr. Orridge ( who I met in Regina) is wavering.

Is the show coming from Riderville today?

Why the trash talk about Green Zone? If you don’t like the green zone don’t listen.
Or is it that some of you just love sucking up to Rod. Lots of man crush guys on here. It’s clear that Rod’s bromance is one of the riders ex punters. So get over it he’s taken.

I listen to the green zone and whatever Rod's show is called.

I find the green zone more insightful. Both radio programs usually have good guests.

There is lots of BS thrown around on the 620 feed.

I’ll listen to what Suitor says over Luc or Abu any day.

For most days I listen to 980 all day long. I probably have more knowledge that the rest of you regeef bathoon’s.

I'm not a robot

CFL unveils new logo

It’s horrible, now I see why the new commissioner (Orridge) has been invisible all year. I’d be embarrassed to have to come and present this too!

Were the CFL awards on TSN last night? If they were I must have missed them, IF NOT, WHY NOT?

Both shows have their good points. I like Rod`s regulars, except lately Schultz who is mostly mailing it in, but I also like Glen Suitor. I usually catch one or the other on podcast while going about daily life. Plenty of room for both. Rods photos are super nice, though.

Just a few things

1. Anyone thinking the Green Zone is better than the Sportscage would think you can find a great steak at Houston Pizza. C'mon! No one is more plugged into the Riders than Pedersen and it shows every day. The guys at CJME keep trying to copy what RP and his gang do and everyone knows it. Just ask the guys at CJME how much they hate Pedersen, Scruffy, Phil and why is that, it is because they know how much better the Cage is. It is like Rider fans hating Calgary becaue of the success they have.

2. Completely agree on what has been said about Mullinder. If he gets someone to work with him, he has TSN or a network gig all lined up. I saw him do the Rams game with Scruffy and he was excellent there too. The guy is a jewel in the rough.

3. The new logo. Is that a joke?

4. Is the game sold out yet? If not, it reflects poorly on the league and the Bombers.

5. There is no better sports personality in this country than one James Duthie. I thought for sure he would bolt to SNET when TSN lost the NHL, but he didn't. That says something about the man.

Great write up today Rod. Have a good show today! Behave yourself this weekend! If Mrs. Sportscage isn't with you, I'm sure you and Luc could have those Outriders in your room for a little par-tay. Hey, Mrs. Sportscage could be with you and you could still par-tay because it is Grey Cup and what happens at Grey Cup stays at Grey Cup right!

The steak sandwich at Houston Pizza is OK. Jeez!

Are James Duthie/Drew Willy biological twins?

Completely unrelated to this, but is there any truth to the rumor about the Pats and CKRM splitting ways and CJME taking over the rights? My wife heard this today from a co-worker of hers to which I reminded her of their lies to the business community saying they were going to get the Rider rights. I really can't imagine CKRM losing the Pats and I really can't imagine the product being any better with CJME being the rights-holder.

Got to see the official Riders Cabana Boy at the Convention Centre today. Too bad he wouldn't even acknowledge me.

Missing the Grey Cup this year, thanks for showing me around the venues, Rod!

I've had some great steak sandwiches at Houston Pizza! I've had bad steaks at the Keg!

Thanks Rod. I won't be watching any Grey Cup this year, but did like reading about your travels.

Been at Grey Cup parties every night this year and I have never seen anyone clear a room faster than the Rider Pep Band. That screeching hyena they have as a singer is not for believing.
