STAMPEDERS 48 REDBLACKS 3

CALGARY - Bo Levi Mitchell threw a pair of touchdown passes and ran for two more to lead the Calgary Stampeders to a convincing 48-3 win over the Ottawa Redblacks on Saturday night.

Joe West and Eric Rogers caught touchdown passes in the second quarter from Mitchell, who completed 17-of-25 passes for 243 yards before giving way to backup quarterback Drew Tate in the third quarter.

Matt Walter ran for another TD, while Rene Paredes kicked three field goals, three converts and a single for the Stampeders (5-2), who avenged a 29-26 overtime loss they suffered to the Redblacks (4-3) in Ottawa on July 24. Rob Maver added a single, while Calgary also scored on a safety.

Chris Milo accounted for all of Ottawa's points when he kicked a field goal in the first quarter. The Redblacks had won their previous two games.

Ottawa's punt return team had a rough game as Brandon McDonald fumbled a pair of punts in the first half, while Jovon Johnson dropped another punt in the third quarter. The Stamps recovered all three fumbles and quickly turned each of the turnovers into touchdowns.

Randy Chevrier recovered McDonald's first fumble early in the first quarter on the Ottawa 37-yard line. Two plays later, Mitchell ran the ball into the end zone from 11 yards out and then promptly threw a three-yard pass to Tory Harrison for a two-point convert to put Calgary up 8-0.

After watching this debacle I think Calgary is starting to serve notice that they are going to flex their muscle a bit. Ottawa was all sure they had turned the corner..not! They even had often referred to HOF quarterback Burris leading them. It appears the good teams are starting to separate themselves. The rabbit that some were hoping the Riders were going to pull out of the hat next week might end up being a rabid weasel. If Calgary comes in motivated and to full potential, that game could get ugly in a hurry as well as well. No substitution for a great management, talent, and coaching.

NEXT !!!! That would be the 0-7 Sk. Sliders, coming real soon to Taylor Field, 0-8 courtesy the Calgary Stampeders.

One thing about old Hank Burris - when he is good he can be very good, when he is bad he is real bad!
