CHAMBLIN RIDERS COACH "GOING FORWARD"

Roughriders GM Brendan Taman told reporters on Monday that he met with Corey Chamblin earlier in the day and that he remains the head coach of the team "going forward".

Taman said the team's Board of Directors supports the decision and that Chamblin's earned the chance to try to turn this winless season around.

Taman also said he expects Chamblin will be the team's coach "for the year".  His contract runs through the 2017 season, as does Taman's.  Taman later clarified his comments on 620 CKRM's SportsCage stating he'd prefer if Chamblin fulfills his contract and beyond.

The GM would not address Saturday's TSN report that Chamblin was to be fired during next week's bye.

Love how they say Taman "told Lee Jones"! Haha. And got the day wrong. Oh well.

According to Lawless, that announcement simply means that both Taman and Chamblin will both be gone at seasons end...

I am not sure what to believe? Whoever leaked that information to TSN should be fired.

But, if it was not a leak, surely there should be some legal liability somewhere.

And I thought being the Sask Roughriders President was the best job ever... Not these days!

Very very notable statement by Tamen " CC is being paid to be the HC not a DC" !!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Well, you can't get any more definitive than "going forward" and "for the year"??? LOL
I take it that MAYBE there COULD BE a POSSIBILITY that maybe there could be a slight chance that possibly something may or may not happen. Maybe.

Kinda wondering why Taman had to address this. It probably was on his mind and the mind of the board. Going to the press and saying he and the board supports Chamblin is usually the kiss of death. Heard this before and the coach gets gunned shortly after. IE: Joe Faragalli.Riders don't win on Saturday, I think Chamblins gone.

Good. CC should be the coach here till he decides it's time to leave. We're lucky to have both him and Taman.

Glad to see Renolds and the board are blocking out the noise from clueless fans, and more importantly, terrible fat reporters from Winnipeg like Neckless, I mean Lawless

What a relief the short-live soap opera is over! Get on with the job of getting the players to win a game soon.

Coach C should take note of how well an older and experienced fellow like GM Taman deals with questions from the media in such a calm and level-headed manner. Someone he should emulate for sure.

It would appear that the reputation of self-described insider Gary Lawless has had his reputation destroyed today. Maybe his paper should assign him to cover the federal election - a fate worse than firing!

Hopefully Taman and Chamblin will both be gassed at year's end.

I really wonder if these guys that are supporting Taman and Chamblin aren't really Stampeder fans. If I was a Stamp fan I'd want the Riders to keep them forever.

Taman said, "Chamblin's earned the chance to try to turn this winless season around."

He may have earned that right as a head coach but he sure didn't earn the right to wreck the team as a defensive coordinator.

I hope they're both gone shortly.

The Riders are the joke of the CFL. Cue the circus music.

Rod the Cabana Boy's interview. Taman says ...... Taman Says ...... Do you even have an opinion of your own ....or worse .... are you allowed to have one ..... lol.

I hope they keep both Chamblin and Taman for the remainder of the season. That ensures that the Riders will finish last.

The loony fringe of Rider Nation is praying that the team does not win going forward so that they can have a new GM and coach in 2016, thinking this is the way back to the future. I can see these guys with fingers crossed behind their back hoping for more injuries and bad luck. Their biggest fear is that the Riders get back on track.

Mitchell Blair is eating crow, and I think he's asking for seconds.

Anonymous said...

I've even got my toes crossed too, Imagine that. Fire Taman! taking his head coach with him.

Lol. Nice try. Still the flagship franchise. Best attendance home and away. Biggest draw there is and about to get bigger. Not everybody loves the Riders but by golly, everybody pays attention to them.

Thank you Sk. Football God. Thank you !
Mr. Austin? Where would we be without you? Thank you for making the Tiger Cats of Hamilton the envy of the Canadian Football League and the best franchise that others want to aspire, a pure winner through and through from the waterboy right to the owner.

Stop! Did everyone in Riderville hear that? You can hear it all the way to Regina it's deafening good. That whistle! That whistle signalling the end of the game and another ✌ victory on Tim Hortons Field by the Tiger Cats. Wahooo wahooo toot toot, job well done guys.

Always love it when the Oskee wee wee guy puts in an appearance.

"Chamblin's earned the chance to turn this winless season around" Can the GM distance himself any further away from this debacle than that statement? I would have expected BT to say that he and Chamblin would work together to turn this thing around. Talk about throwing your HC under the bus. IMO this clearly outlines one of the biggest problem areas we have overcome. CC deserves a better endorsement than that from his GM. It totally looks like CYA time.

When I watched the Hamilton game tonight It's easy to see that talent wise and coaching wise they have far and away surpassed us. I haven't heard of Hamilton having any issues with the talent that Tillman is assembling for them. In 2013 they were in transition with a lot of older smaller plaiters. They are now bigger, faster and younger. Their O-line is huge and controls the line of scrimmage. They have running backs and receivers who can block. Their D-line gets huge pressure with four and they have all sorts of effective blitz packages. I think they're the best team in the league right now, even better than Edmonton. They have had a lot of injuries but are trending upward while we're going the opposite way.

There is very little on this club right now that can be called top notch. Admittedly injuries have hit us hard on offence however the defence should have stepped up, but have been unable to. Like someone wrote perhaps the special teams are the biggest improvement. This defence has some new faces but I'm not convinced they are talented enough faces. They're new with some potential but not overly talented with the exception of Knox. It needs to be reworked. The O-line can still be improved upon. Find some people who like to block when they continually blitz us. There should be no area on this team that is sacred.

Anyone who saw the Cowboys skirmish video now knows why you have contact practices in training camp. That skirmish was all about intensity and fighting (literally) for a roster spot. The Riders played it soft in training camp and have not had the intensity on defense until recently. The 6th game to finally be able to play solid, physical and intense football is 100% on the HC.

The Riders should be 4-2 (last 2 weeks the Riders deserved to lose) but the first 4 can be traced back to the way they approached training camp.

4 - 2? Dream on Bub. Roughriders 0 - 6, that's a fact!

Anonymous said...

Would hope that the Head Coach drops the ego trip and hires an actual Defensive Coordinator and removes the current coach from that position. He clearly is not a capable DC, just there to follow HCs direction. Clearly Coach Chamblin is in over his head trying to do both jobs.
I cannot see this mess getting any better till these coaching positions are clarified.

Anonymous said...

I thought coming out of training camp defences were supposed to be ahead of offence. Our defence has not been that and that can only be because all of our defensive coaches took the A TRAIN right out of town when Richie Hall left. The experiment of Chamblin being Head Coach and Defensive Coach is not working.

With all the cap room from the injuries we should be able to sign Brett Jones and Ben Heenan when they become available

CCC.

Next man up for the Riders, unfortunately the next man up is Tamans latest signing.....Owen Seven.

4 - 2? Roughriders 0 - 6 Bub! that's fact.

Is the coach getting a free pass for a bad job the past 2 years ??????

I think so !!!!!!!!!!

He schooled that loony bad batch of basement dwellers that wasted their entire long weekend stewing about this.

Someone or maybe more individuals in the Riders must really not like CC !!!!!!!!

Hey Oskee wee wee fella....where would you guys be if you were playing with your #3 QB and had 15 injured players?? You wouldn't be singing and chanting how proud you are!!

Taman and Chamblin responsible for the single greatest day in franchise history and possibly the most memorable day in Provincial history and fans want them lynched on the spot. Typical no-sense Rider fans.

I am a life-long fan but am embarrassed to be part of 'Rider Nation'. Most ignorant fans base in Canada. What is funny to me is how everyone says the fans are so great yet without a doubt Mosaic Stadium has become one of the quietest parks across the league. Winnipeg, Hamilton, Ottawa have all flat out passed Regina.

I would challenge one person to provide a replacement as a DC?

I've been as critical as anybody, but when you sit back and think about it, this is not the same team tht won the Grey cup two years ago from a lot of perspectives, as follows:
i) give or take 1 or 2 there are only 22 players left from the 2013 team
ii) 13 Canadians from that team have either retired, went to NFL, went to expansion to Ottawa. or left for more bucks.
iii) the only coaches left from 2013 are Chamblin and Dyce.
In short, there have been some amjor changes here. The defence is now totally unrecognizable even from the start of the year. Is it any wonder we're 0-6???

Anonymous said...

Why does Taman make me think of Danny Maciocha?

Anonymous said...

the only thing better than 0-6 is 0-7! keep it all the same, according to some rider fans it aint broke. they could just as easily be 6-0. complete morons, and worst fans in any sport.
follow along here, one fan comes on and completely destroys getzlaf, said to cut him and just get rid of him. 2 comments later another rider genius says trade him for Drew Tate!!! nothing better than the riders being winless and their "fans" being clueless year after year.
morons.....

Anonymous said...

Oskee Wee when is the last time Hamilton won a grey cup? I am from there and the franchise is a joke. Rarely a sell out, yes the riders are having off year. Changes will be made. Wasn't too long ago you guys almost lost your team. Everytime the riders come to hamilton, we have more fans. Says alot when your radio announcers says they need to take crowd out of it lol. Mark my word you wont be in the grey cup this year.

Hey Taman, Play us another song , only let's try some New Words. By the way to the last ANON .. you have to be from Winnipeg so just keep reading your Wpg. Sun and stay off of here . We don't need Trash talkers like you.

Chamblain has lost the room needs to be let go, taman not a good gm (serviceable) has to be let go at the end of the season. We need to find young talent and start rebuilding right now, especially on defence.

Your so-called "lynch mob" are a bunch of idiots so who give a rats ass anyways. The only Lynch mob that counts is that lead by John and his coffee buddies.

It took the Eskimos board of directors five years to realize Maciocha was counterfeit and then another five years to field a decent team after he was gone. I'm upset because I believe the Roughriders are on the same course.

Nostradamus said...

I used to believe in Santa Clause, so my advise is to always take your beliefs about the future fortunes and misfortunes of pro football teams with a grain of beach sand and don't get upset. The Riders may be of a course towards victory again once they get Durant and others healthy. The only thing we know about the future is that predictions are sometimes wrong, right, half-right, half-wrong, quarter right, quarter wrong, 10% right .....

Hamilton had to build a smaller stadium to be able to make it look like there are more than 14,000 fans in it. The Argos are moving to a smaller stadium and will have a hard time making it look full unless they can hire some kind of department to sell tickets. Ottawa has a stadium that is smaller than Landsdowne was. Montreal not selling out. BC can't fill the bottom bowl only. Winnipeg Investors Field is smaller than the old Polo Park. Newer stadiums but most are smaller. Ticket prices are going up but there are not 40 home games for teams to make money. Taylor Field (respect) at least the new stadium is gonna have about the same number of seats. Not gonna take many years till teams start crying about not being able to sell out the joint and they are not making money.

The headline on this story is "Chamblin Riders coach 'Going Forward'"

Maybe it should have said "Going Backward"
