GLENN "50/50 AT BEST" FOR EDMONTON GAME

Saskatchewan Roughriders General Manager Brendan Taman updated the status of quarterback Kevin Glenn during his weekly appearance on 620 CKRM's SportsCage on Monday.  Glenn was injured in the second half of Sunday's 31-21 home loss to Hamilton and did not play the fourth quarter.

We asked Taman if his 36-year old quarterback will be able to start Friday's game at Edmonton.

"You'll hate the answer I'm going to give you but I have to give it to you honestly," Taman said.  "At best it's 50/50.

"He was in this morning.  He's pretty sore.  Obviously we're putting him through some tests and whatnot.  We're waiting to get some results.  I know he's not 100%.  I can guarantee that right now."

Taman declined to disclose the nature of the injury nor on what play he was injured.  He did admit Glenn took a pounding in the game.

"To be honest with you it had nothing to do with the refs," Taman said.  "They brought a lot of different looks for us and they got pressure on our quarterback.  Every hit was legal - I have no problem with the hits - he just took a lot of them.  We just need to turn that around and get that on our side, with the opposing quarterbacks."

Maybe now you idiots will realize why Roddy always has the Riders back. Nobody else reported the update on KG other than CKRM.

Keep up the good work.

The highlight of the Sports Cage today was the Eskimoo fan calling in to trash talk. Hilarious stuff!

Don't try and tell me that Lawrence hit on Baggs two point convert was clean. Three seconds late with a helmet to the chin. Bush league!

Are injuries still no excuse? Heard lots of talk about Ham had no running game because Gable was injured. Heard lots of talk about the Stamps poor run and protection due to injuries. Their GMs obviously did poor recruiting and coaches unable to manage with injuries. Be fair everyone.

Time for BT and his HC to take some responsibility for where the team is. Poor drafting of OL/DL and Canadian talent and a HC wearing to many hats.

My prediction ..... Glenn is out 4 to 6 weeks.

My Prediction >>>>> RIDERS ARE OUT PERIOD !

Anonymous said...

If the OC cant scheme to protect the QB any better, it's best that Glenn stay on the sidelines. Good luck Smith, you're next.

Anonymous said...

My prediction is that Glenn will totally play and the riders think they are being smart trying to get the esks to fall for the lame excuses that Glenn is actually hurt ,he will play mark my works

Don't fret Riderville ! Word on Dewdney is Taman made the call out to Kerry Joseph to once again come out of retirement to save/salvage the 2015 season. Good call, at least he has experience at the QB position.

Anonymous said...

Oh he'll play alright, and then the Eskimos are really going to lay a hurt on the old man.

It seems like it is the Riders forever destiny to be a bad football club no matter who is at the helm. There has been more futility than greatness when you look at the history of the club in its entirety.

With our teams' vast financial resources, why is our scouting department so terrible? We should have at least one scout for every Canadian and U.S. college conference. When Roy took over he had squat for finances but he had something better, connections. Tillman also had a crazy amount of connections too, his players most of which still form the core of this team. Sure you can make the argument that we've got new blood in Knox, doughty, Smith and Demski but it has to be across the board. Young players who are full of piss and vinegar and push the veterans to be better. If you don't perform, you're out. But there's no depth here now cause of that poor scouting. Nobody to push the vets that can't make plays or take stupid penalties. It's like 2011 all over again.

Actually, the Riders take their injuries seriously and rest guys when needed. Unlike Winnipeg.

What struck me about Chamblin's pre game speech was that he took no responsibility for the kind of team the Riders will be for the rest of the season but placed it all on the players. Last I knew the schemes and play calling from the sidelines and coaching also helps to determine the kind of team they will be. No We in You yet it was the word You that he used. To me he sounded like he was berating the team not motivating them.

The funniest thing I have heard is people debating whether Smith or Sunseri should start if Glenn can't. You've seen them both .... does it really matter which one of them starts.

The sound of breaking ankles continues to resonate through the disgruntled Ridernation as scores of part time/fair weather fans leap from the bandwagon. Its sad how piling on the Riders appears to be in fashion nowadays, yet you naysayers happily swing from the Riders bag when the winning streaks occur.

Perhaps you'd be more at home on Saskatchewan's "B" team football show where they eagerly take pot shots at anything to do with the organization as they try to come to terms with not being good enough to be the teams official broadcaster yet again. Imagine being so weak at the sports game that the team opted for the longest possible contract with their sole rival in the market instead of giving them any opportunity to get back in the game.

I foresee another ill-timed interception, and more pain for Glenn on friday.

I think it is hilarious that people beak Taman and the Riders "depth" when they have over a handful of legit starters, including their franchise quarterback and other impact starters, out with long term injuries. It is not an excuse, it is fact. The young players (Knox, Doughty, Hollins, Demski, Smith, Ainsworth, Early) have been thrust into roles and have been outstanding! If anything it is time to cut the fat of the Chicks, Brackenridges, Getzlaf's, George's. Where have they been?

Once again BT leaves us wanting. Never accepts that he and his chosen coach are to blame for this. More so BT for a lack of a supporting cast but also disappointed in Coach for not manning up and taking his share of the blame for questionable play calling, decisions on time left on the clock and for blaming the players.
Not much of a leader in my view.

Although Josh Freeman just resigned with the Dolphins, the Riders should try to get him on their Neg. list. No way he beats out Tannerhill or Moore, and they may go for a developmental rookie for their 3rd string. He is only 27 and still strong armed... and could be available in early Sept after final cuts...since he has kicked around a few teams now... Pretty sure he would be a big improvement over what we have now...

But one would thing B.T. would be one this? Hopefully he reads Rod's Blog...

Anonymous said...

I know he's had a couple of collisions and numerous near misses but has Brackenridge actually wrapped up and tackled anyone this year?

Anonymous said...

I am sure Freeman would be excited to get cut from the NFL and come sign in the CFL for what ... 100K to finish the season? If i were him and my agent approached me about the CFL this year i would fire him on the spot.

Some people don't get it... most of the are called Rider Fans.

Kevin Glenn will play ... I just saw him working out at the Rider facility in the old Superstore. Doesn't look like a guy that's on the shelf to me!

Anonymous said...

To knowledge: I agree cut the fat. But who replaces the Chick, George and Bracks in your scenario? Names please!!

I guess calling for Taman and Chamblin to take responsibility is the new mantra for the bandwagon crowd. Have the anonymous part time Band Wagon passengers taken responsibility for being ass clowns?

"hopefully he reads Rod's Blog"

I am sure he does, but you can be sure he does not waste his time reading a blog's comment section after every article. Get real! Its only us retired/unemployed or people with nothing to do at work who can spend time on these comment sections.

Why would josh freeman come up here to play for 100k which after exchange is 70k now. The guy is a multi millionaire. If he doesnt make the fins he will be out of football.

And to all the people that go on and on and on about accepting blame. Does ir really need to be said? You think they dont know and accept responsibility? If they came right out and said it will that help you sleep at night? Will it change our record or the fact that injuries have stolen this season. I just dont get why it is sooooo important to some people. They are the hc and gm so it goes without saying that they are accountable.

And i still say keep it up you people.... Who would want to come here to coach in the future with all the constant moaning and getting run out of town after winning a gc less than two years ago on home field which was a monumental task. Last year cortez and hall this year chamblin. It is always either the qb or the coaches that have to go around here. It is a sickness. Constant turnover does not work....see sask roughriders circa 1977 to 1987.....six head coaches and something like five gms....missed playoffs 11 straight years. Meanwhile edmonton over that period won 6 cups with three coaches and one gm. It is nit rocket science you pick good people and stick with them through adversity. They are good at what they do but no one could do any better in our injury situation

Anonymous said...

Yes some people don't get it...Hmmm...Josh Freeman cut from football... not playing anymore...Why not the CFL...with a chance to develop into a CFL starter making 400K a year... You have to throw out offers, otherwise nothing happens...

Typical narrow minded reader... let me mention the name Doug Flutie to you...

Open your eyes...or come up with your own suggestions for once...

You guys are trully nuts.... Cut the fat? Our remaining three best players and leaders? They would instantly be picked up by another team and likle would be glad to out of this nuthouse. Three allatars fir crying out loud. And you need their leadership as much as anything. Geez go eat you pablum you whiney babies

"To knowledge: I agree cut the fat. But who replaces the Chick, George and Bracks in your scenario? Names please!!"

100% AGREE!! But that is part my point. "Fans" question Taman and his apparent lack of depth while already having to replace the franchise QB, potentially now the backup QB, their best defensive player in Weldon Brown, two starting corners in Green and Jackson, McDougall who could have impacted the ratio, starting middle linebacker and starting Canadian in Emry.

Four first year CFL'ers starting on Defense and two plug and play vets off the street ... when teams go through things like this it up to the veteran leaders and supposive legaue dominators to step up. So where are Chick, Brackenridge, George?

Taman's depth is giving the team a chance!! Without depth and losing all those players the team could be getting killed!

There will be over 50 quarterbacks cut in the NFL over the next month ... how many will end up in the CFL? Many will take better opportunities to begin another life in the US college, high school, or pro ranks.

For every Doug Flutie i can't give you the name of the 100 players that come up here after NFL camp and fail.

So Cory let me see if I understand this correctly. You ALWAYS give your players two days away from the practice field after a game. So nothing Monday and nothing Tuesday. You will have a practice on Wednesday then travel to Edmonton Thursday and do a "walk through". Then play the game on Friday night. Is this right? So you are effectively give a kid that has thrown FIVE passes in his short CFL career ONE day to throw as the first string QB? I must be missing something Cory because if I had 2 wins in my last 17 games I'd be practicing every chance I get!! I've been supporting you but to my way of thinking this is simply another strike against your coaching decisions. If I'm wrong with this weeks schedule I apologize.

Anonymous said...

And of course practice is closed tomorrow.
What a joke... I thought the team was supposed to be accesible to the fans? Another reason to give Paranoid Chamblin his walking papers.

Anonymous said...

Yes you fool you are missing something! Its called the CFLPA collective bargaining agreement (CBA). Its dictates how much time coaches have each week of the players time for practices and team events. The coaches hands are tied to some extent by a CBA in every pro-league.

Everyone can attack any coach in any league, but at least have some understanding of what the rules are.

The Woz always takes the bait!

Be like Obama Woz; posters can ridicule his nonsense all the time but he never responds because he his one of the great baiters himself.

You have to know by now that a some that post here are fans of other CFL teams who like to get their jollies from poking the die-hards in Rider Nation.

I am sure it happens in the NFL - imagine what the Cleveland Brown or Viking fans go through.

Anonymous posts need to be taken with a grain of salt. Each season is an unfolding story and as a fan, despite the set-backs, it is interesting to watch how players respond to adversity and how future stars emerge. Relax, enjoy the ride for what its worth and hope for the best - it is after all what all those who support their football club have done throughout time - or at least since John Lynch was a kid in the Rookie Section.

Go easy on the new fans Big Ed. No need for name calling. There are many new fans who don't even know pro football players have a union. They don't have a clue how the rules work and that player are entitled to days off after a game. Even some old fans still think it is the 1960's when it comes to how players can be treated.

One can easily despair over the lack of knowledge of some posters after games who have a lot of emotion but little understanding of how the world works. The good news can be found in the fact that the Sports Cage does have a great educator in Luc Mullinder and his Pro Perspectives.ca website (linked from Rod's blog on the left). Hopefully more will tune into his podcast with Coach Etch.

Bay Rock O,

Agreed - Woz is a fool and Obama who's cooled his jets on here always knew how to bait him. It got to the point on here Obama would drop dynamite in the water and just scoop up the fishes after the explosion. Hilarious stuff.

I agree about Obama getting boring. I think a guy like that just gets bored with torturing animals (you people), and then moves onto something else.

Dwayne

I just hope you are right Dwayne and Obama does indeed move onto something else, perhaps speech writer for Brad Wall.

After reading some of these posts it appears some feel that without all the injuries the Riders were so talented that after 5 Games they would be at least 8-0, maybe even 10-0.
Personally, I don't think all the players BT has brought in are the superstars posters like Woz want us to believe.
Injuries are definitely a factor but the drafting, especially of Canadian talent needs to be a lot better.
