Ben Bishop proved he was healthy enough to start Game 3 of the Stanley Cup final. The Lightning goaltender made 36 saves -- including 18 in the first period -- to help lift Tampa Bay to a 3-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks, and a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series. Cedric Paquette scored the tie-breaking goal late in the third period.

Another game, another win for the Toronto Blue Jays. Josh Donaldson hit a home run and drove in three as Toronto crushed the Miami Marlins 11-3 for their sixth win in a row. Chris Colabello hit an R-B-I single in the first inning to extend his hit streak to 18 games.

Around the major leagues, Andre Ethier and Jimmy Rollins hit three-run homers as the Dodgers downed Arizona 9-3. Kansas City moved into a first-place tie with Minnesota in the AL Central with a 3-1 victory over the Twins. San Diego topped Atlanta 5-3 and Colorado dominated St. Louis 11-3.

It was a good day for Canada at the MLB draft. Mississauga, Ontario first baseman Josh Naylor and Calgary right-hander Michael Soroka were both selected in the first round. Naylor went to the Miami Marlins with the 12th overall pick, making him the highest-drafted Canadian position player. Soroka went to the Braves, 28th overall. Jeff Degano of Surrey, B-C was chosen by the Yankees in the second round.

The US won the opener of its Women's World Cup schedule. Megan Rapinoe scored twice and Christen Press provided the game-winner as the Americans beat Australia 3-1 in Winnipeg.

San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer says the city could hold a special election by December 15th on a new stadium for the NFL's Chargers, a few weeks before a team could file to relocate to Los Angeles under league rules. Faulconer says the City Council has until September 18th to decide on whether to put a plan to voters by mid-December.

The Stanley Cup final is turning into a great event. I would love to see a 7th game and a Lightening victory at home in over-time.

After watching camp pretty closely, I would have trouble buying suggestions that Alex A was behind ANYONE save for Bagg and Getzlaff when it comes to Non Import receivers! I really was expecting to see Alex in uniform this year with some good measure of playing time in a back-up role at least.
