CHICK IS FREE

620 CKRM has learned the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars have relinquished the rights to defensive end John Chick making him a free agent.  Chick spent two seasons in Jacksonville, appearing in 10 games and registering 2.5 sacks, nine tackles, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.  He spent parts of the 2010 and 2011 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts.  Chick also spent three seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders (2007-2009), winning a Grey Cup in 2007 and was named the CFL's Most Outstanding Defensive Player in 2009.

I've been told that Chick does not have to wait through the 10-day NFL waiver window, and is free to sign with any team in the NFL or CFL.   The Roughriders have been in contact with Chick's agent Gil Scott.

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! Would be a long shot but how sweet would it be?

Chick is one guy I would think would come back without looking down his nose at the CFL. I hope he is interested and that we can find the cap room to sign him if he is.

Undoubtedly he will catch on with another NFL team...

Look at how sleek and muscular his arms are! Unreal! I pray we get a hold of him and let him do his thing. Go Riders.

give him what he wants!! don't let him slip away to some other CFL team!!

John we want you back

Such a fickle fan base...I love it!
John Chick is the same age as Foley who everyone suggests is "too old" and past his prime to be an effective d lineman anymore.

If Jacksonville (one of the worst teams in the NFL) is cutting you I'd say your NFL days are numbered. If it's not the NFL I can't see Chick going anywhere else but Saskatchewan. He always said how much he liked it here. If he's available I think we need to make it happen.

I can see it now. Foley coming from one end and Chick in the other. Gives me chills just thinking about it.

The missing piece to the puzzle!

Yes Sir!! Turn back that clock! Only in Riderville.

Aggressively pursue and sign Chick If he Indicates any Interest In coming back to Sk. Canada. Trade/release one of your prized free agent acquisitions to accommodate the CFL Imposed team spending cap, because your probably over the limit. Do all this before Tillman advises his signing to the Hamilton Tiger Cats organization. lmao at the turn around comments by some, and totally agree with anon 7 about the fickle fan base.

6 years later getting beat to hell in the NFL what do you expect him to accomplish here? IF he comes to the CFL he's going to the highest bidder.

Anonymous said...

Anon 7 and 10, I love that you guys assume the same people are making fickle comments. Don't judge an entire fan base simply because you see differing comments on a blog.

Just because he got released by the Jags doesn't mean he's finished in the NFL. They could be planning to draft high at that position and are making space. It's part politics and part right place/right time. He could easily get signed by a team that needs to shore up their D line. I don't suspect you'll see him look north until after the NFL draft in April...although stranger things have happened. It would be great to see him back in Regina.

OMG B Rad. Sound like you love Chick. Granted his arms are muscular and he is powerfull on the pass rush. The real question is he too old at age 30? Younger the better no?

Make it happen, boys. Chick and Foley at DE with Alford and Shologan on the inside would definitely be hell for opposing offenses. No doubt the first place Chick would want to come back is here and avenge what happened in 09. Taman, get it done!

In many cases yes, the younger the better. But people complain about Taman's supposed lack of ability to find a DE. Now you have the best DE available since...well, since John Chick so why not have a look see?

Anonymous said...

Please God let John Chick come home! Chances are good that he will catch on with another NFL team but if not, who cares how old he is. He can clearly get it done.

GET HIM HERE!!! If he is here, our defence is officially Solid!! be great to have him back!

Chick and Foley, "Foiled-Chicken", I see a KFC Game-day sponsorship a happenin'.

If Chick goes anywhere it's likely to Hamilton. They are a team trending upward. Also he has some connections in Hamilton. With an all-star front office they are better poised to be in the GC game than the Riders. After all this franchise has been pitiful the last two years, failing to make the playoffs in both. I don't see this seasons acquisitions being as exciting as when we signed Odell Willis. Hamilton will be a different team under Austin, mark my words!

"After all this franchise has been pitiful the last two years, failing to make the playoffs in both."

Who did I watch Calgary play in the West Semi? All this time I thought the green team was the Riders. Hmm, must've been Edmonton.

xcuzez said...

yes because hamilton had a stunning showing last year. trending upward based on what..... pure speculation and time will tell.

Screw the salary cap and pay him whatever he wants. He's worth going over the cap and paying the fine.

Anonymous said...

Not many franchises trend upwards with a 38 year old QB.

Everyone talks about he didn't produce in the nfl. Well due to the fact he is going against guys that are 6'7 or 8 and are more athletic than cfl lineman. He would crush online man up in this league.

BYE BYE Hawkins, nice knowing ya

he has been in the NFL for 4 years now and has been a practice roster player and worked his way up into a DLine rotation. After 3 or 4 years is when most players who are not bonified starters usually have troubel funding work. Chick however plays the most sought after position in pro football at DE.
If by chance no NFL team does not sign him and bring him to training camp then he would most likley want to be a rider. My bet though is that he will be singed by another NFL team to training camp.If he gets released during camp he most likley will wait out the season to see if an NFL team will need to sign him when injuries begin to take there toll. If he does not play in the NFL at all in 2013 or very little He would most likley continue his career in the CFL and the Riders are wher he will want to be. As he career comes to an end the Riders community help players to get on with life after football with Job and career chances in the Rider nation

Riders should be concentrating on securing the playing rights to the young Stefan Charles, whatever It takes. Enough of these old rejects.

I would love to see John back here and I think the Riders have the best shot because there IS life after football and he is highly respected here and could make a great living in Regina once his playing days are over. If he is smart and looks at the big picture we may see Big John back here in Riderville.

Welcome to Hamilton Mr. Chick.

Folks, let's key in on one very important point here. His agent is Gil Scott who also represents Austin and Tillman. As much as it pains me to type this, if he doesn't go to Hamilton, I'll eat my hat.

Ooops no money to pay you John boy! You will love Hamiltons new stadium and your buddy Kent is just waiting to sign you! Darn, why did we pay superman so much money?

The Woz said...

Gil scott is also Tamans agent....so little bit of red herring there. And why do people ass ume we have less cap room than hamilton...they are paying burris more than DD plus andy at 200k etc...lets also not forget that we signed some guys but have not paid them a dime yet...if chick is better than cut some players to make room. Cut hawkins or even foley and you are most of the way to the money you need. We should also watch forbhickman being cut soon...

Not holding my breath. But would be cool to see Chick back in Sask. .. maybe the Stamps call? Chick and Baggs combo again?

Don said...

Plain and simple - he will sign wherever he gets the most money. The matter of fact is that there is no loyalty in sports or any other business for that matter. I think practically everyone has changed jobs for more money.

Certainly a better rush end than anything we have at the moment. However keep in mind he is 4 years older now and may not have the speed and strength he once had. With all that being said he would still be a force to be reckoned with.

You'll be lickin your wounds on the ground after ChicKnFoil wrap you up like an oven roasted bird.

I can tell you right now that John Chick will be in Sask this Spring! He is a guest speaker at the Celebrity Sports Gala and Memorabilia Auction in Zenon Park on April 6. Perhaps this will be more than just a visit to Sakatchewan?

Anonymous said...

Lol, he said, "Sakatchewan".

Is Gil Scott not Geroy Simon and Rick Foily's agent too?
Chick will sign wher he wants too. Austion and carrot top have no persussion here.

Go smoke some more grass buddy

If indeed they do get to draft Charles he will be the top priority to sign as he could have an immediate impact rotating on the Dline with Sholo and Alford allowing the DT spot to be a ratio spot.
