RIDERS SIGN TWO

The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced today they have signed import defensive back Carlos Thomas and import receiver Lyle Leong. Financial details of the signings were not released.

Thomas (5'11 – 185) has spent the last two seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats appearing in 21 career games. Last season, the 25-year-old played six games registering 16 defensive tackles, one interception and one tackle for loss. He missed the remainder of the season due to injury.

After attending San Francisco 49ers training camp, Thomas entered the CFL with the Saskatchewan Roughriders by joining the team in October of 2009, appearing in one regular season game. The Georgia native spent part of the 2010 season on the Edmonton Eskimos practice roster before being acquired by the Ti-Cats for 2011.

Leong (6'1 – 185) joins the Riders after a standout four year career at Texas Tech. As a senior, Leong lead the team with 926 receiving yards on 74 receptions. His team leading 19 receiving touchdowns ranks second on Tech's all-time single season list. The 25-year-old finished his collegiate career with 152 catches for 1877 yards and ranks second on Tech career receiving touchdowns list with 32.

The Abilene, TX native spent time on the Dallas Cowboys practice squad last season.

16 DB currently on the roster, but somehow they don't seem to give a rats ass about the DE position.

I get soooooooooo angry at STUPID comments (anon #1). The Riders needed to improve in the defensive backfield and Taman has done an awesome job this offseason. This will help Richie's D immensely. You honestly believe that BT doesn't know they need a DE (if an idiot like you can figure it out, I am sure he has). He will find one or hopefully 2, you do realize that there are other teams after DE's?? At the end of the season I want Taman to tell some of these Rider fans? to SUCK IT!!! Mike Hammer

Lol at comment 1. I guess Taman should get a blog where he details his workday so that certain fans don't freak out in February.

Anonymous 1. I'm sure they give a rats ass about the DE position. Some of you guys are so clueless and ignorant its ridiculous. I'm excited at how the roster is shaping up.

Yup, pretty sure the GM and coaches don't care about the DE position. Yup, pretty sure. It's February for ----- sake!
And what the hell is a comment about some old and I do mean old rock group doing here???

Tamon needs only go to the DE tree and bring in all star game changers, it is that easy. Shhhh don't want the other GMs to find out how easy it is to get quality players.

Ahhh another year in Riderville has begun,,,,,,,, MANAGEMENT, AWESOME JOB SO FAR, SOME PLAYERS WILL PAN OUT SOME WON'T, BUT WE ARE TINKERING, NOT OVERHAULING THIS YEAR, SO JUST KEEP DOING WHAT YOU'RE DOING, MOST OF US LIKE WHAT WE SEE SO FAR.

Annon 1 go back to riderfans.com forum they miss your s@#t a$# negative attitude over there.

Sorry all you blind sheep, I agree with anon #1. About the only thing Taman's proven in his tenure is that he can't find a DE. Last year he totally bombed out so traded for Odell Willis, now this year he's been in contact with Ricky Foley's agent. I think both of those guys were discovered previously. It just baffles me the way everybody else has two DEs that maje a difference and we can't find one.

Why are the Sk.Roughriders jerseys getting lighter on the green as the years pass by? " Lime " hideous color, with hideous sparkling helmets to top it off. Saskatchewan Huskys Football jersey green more representative of tradition with regards to the Roughriders Football Club. Who has the answer?

First off, lay off of Taman anon 1... like the others stated, ITS FEBRUARY! RELAX! Secondly, KISS wasnt a good rock group in their prime let alone the present day! Gene Simmons isnt a musician, he's a stingy investment type who loves money and loathes fun. That's why they're not playing in Regina!

Agree with the complaints about anon #1. Hearing the guy inist he will not buy anymore Rider merchandise leaves me thinking its just the same guy or couple of guys. If you won't delete these negetive nellies, Petersen could you revamp your site so we could add a Dislike or Like about their coments like TSN does. I beleive most of the Rider Nation is Positive and dislikes this ignorance. Sadly when I see these comments I feel like we all get painted with this negative nellie brush.

What's a nellie brush ? Does it have something to do with Roughriders football ?

Lyle leong is good got hops like crazy, won state in

Some people just need to bitch about something.

If anon #1 is a true Rider fan.
He or she would have read the articles or listened to Taman on the Sports Cage. Brendan has stated he is going to setup competition at the mini camps in the U.S. with 10 or so D-lineman to compette for the D-end position. At one time Jon Chick was on the practise roster and had to compette for his position. Competiton brings out the beasts and possibly finds 1 or even 2 solid DE's

To Mike... RELAX!!!

Anonymous said...

Everyone relax!

At least Anon #1 made an insightful and statistically correct observation. And he or she is aloud to have any concern that they want to have.

You might not like the wording, or the fact that your assumption is that Taman is under attack. But let's face it, the Def End position is key to any team. Bringing in stiff competition at that position will surely bring out a solid player to play for us, however if you simply don't sign anyone, the resulting output will reflect that.

But more-so, my point is to relax and appreciate someone's comments rather than to jump all over them. It's almost like there are a group of control freak thugs on here who like to gang together like little boys and keep the club to themselves. This is the site of RP, not you guys. RP has created a place where people can comment on the Riders or other things. He is the only police of this site, not you guys.

Settle down, get back on your meds, or seek counselling if you can't control yourself!!!

Last Annon give them a chance to bring guys in like Tamman said settle down go back to riderfans.com and bitch there with the rest of the arm chair QB's that all think they are coaches.

It is Feb. wait and see and setlle down and get back on the bandwagon partime fan !!!

Blah, blah, blah, Roofrider nation, settle down.

Question 1 - Dot the Riders need to improve their defensive secondary?

- Yes. Good work Taman on brining in talent and competition at this position. To those who aren't aware, Carlos Thomas can also play linebacker.

Question 2 - Do the Riders need to improve their pass rush, specifically at the position of defensive end?

- Yes. Free agency is only a week old and Rider fans are screaming that we've done nothing to improve at this position. We just lost Odell a week ago people! Have some patience, it's only February.

Anon #1 has a point. The pass rush doomed them in the playoff game and Darrell Revis couldnt cover anyone that long with no pass rush and such a big field. Sure the DB's needed an upgrade, but the pass rush is a weak link for sure. And other than his nationality, Foley isnt nearly as good as Willis.
